Asus: Intel ‘Skylake’ and Microsoft Windows 10 to debut in Q3

Neither Intel, nor Microsoft, have disclosed exact launch dates for their upcoming products. AMD expects the software giant to release its Windows 10 in July, but analysts are not sure that actual PCs with the new OS will hit the market before September or October. Asustek expects Windows 10 to arrive in July and Intel “Skylake” for notebooks to debut in August. Asustek Computer hopes to start selling its laptops featuring Intel Core M and Core i “Skylake” microprocessors and Microsoft Windows 10 in the third quarter, which means September, at the latest. However, there will be Windows 10-based hardware with previous-gen chips as well.

“In July, we will see the official transition to Windows 10,” said Mr. Shen. “In August, Skylake will come into the market, so there are two different transitions, one in July, the other in August. Windows 10 in July and Skylake in August and only in September we will see a more comprehensive transition.”

Does this mean Broadwell now and Skylake next fall or ,in your opinion,Apple is gonna skip Broadwell for Skylake instead ?

The fact that all 15" MBP models, to varying degrees, have been drying up in the reseller channels means that Apple will almost certainly announce the 15" Broadwell MBP at WWDC three weeks from now. We might possibly see a late-2015 Skylake rMB, but I am confident that the 13" and 15" Skylake MBPs will be early-2016 (which Apple define as January through April).

Nothing to see in that article.
Title says "Rumours: release date, specs and UK pricing"
Actual article content says:

"We think that Apple will update the 15in MacBook Pro with Retina display again in 2015"
"We expect to see similar prices for the 2015 models, but with an improvement in specs (we hope)"
"We hope the 15in versions of the MacBook Pro maintain these quad-core processors"
"We anticipate the company switching to the GeForce 800M series of GPUs"
"We'd like to see more battery life offered by the 2015 models"

The end. No sources, facts or rumours whatsoever.

14 inch retina MBP in Space Gray would be epic

I doubt we'd see that until 2016 though :(

Hopefully, since this is a minor semi-silent update, the next one with Skylake will be a major one with a design change. :)

So to sum it up, what do you guys think if this rumor about the silent update is true

the rMBP 15 gets the update now, are we still gonna see a new major update on the next apple event ?

Im holding of from buying a rMBP xD for quiet some time and just thinking of the Skylake and redesign gives me shivers ;p ahahah

what do you think ?

small update of proc, graph now >> few months later >> new redesign + major hardware updates

possible ?

It's not impossible. Apple computers are going to look pretty outdated if they drag their feet when others use Skylake and other stuff coming out this summer/fall.

Notably the 27" iMac (high-end) was not refreshed, perhaps a hint of more to come in the next ~5 months.

I tried to find a similar event from the past in the buyers guide, but generally the minimum cycle seemed to be at least 200 days.

Well, I think today's update of the 15" MBP signals the coming of Skylake this fall. Other OEMS (Dell, Asus, Lenovo) have stated they were skipping Broadwell and I think Apple will do the same.

Well yours may only be "wishful thinking" for the announcement date. Better expect Skylakes for the early 2016 release. The big questions, for 2016 will be:

1) Will there be a radical re-design (for the case, in particular)?
2) May we expect to see 14" & 16" models, if the current 13" & 15" rMBPs may be discarded from the inventory (particularly if here will be a case re-design)?
3) Will they keep the battery life as 9 hrs (as in the very recent 15" rMBP smallish upgrade, still using Haswells) and as 10 hrs (as in the current 13" rMBP with Broadwells) or improve these? (Looks unlikely if there'll be a case re-design, which will mean a thinner/lighter case obviously at the expense of battery capacity not counting the possible power economy to be induced with the Skylakes...)?

Wow, balsy move.

A two year old processor?

Computex 2015 is going to be about Skylake so that settles it then.

Next macbook pro updates are Skylake.

Hopefully a redesign for the 15" since Skylake allows for a fanless design!

Maybe. I expect the next MacBook Pro will be Skylake in early 2016, but there is still a chance that there could be a Broadwell MacBook Pro in September or October 2015.

There is no possibility of a fanless design using the Skylake CPUs that would power a MacBook Pro.

I wouldn't hold my breath on that Pops. If they update it, it would probably not require an event and they'd just do it with a press release like they did now and with the haswell update in the past (not the first, the second).

With Computex 2015 in two weeks. All Windows OEMS will be rolling out Skylake notebooks. For Apple to update to Broadwell in fall would be a joke.

But then again, they're still holding to a cpu from 2013 so who knows what Apple will do.

I think we'll probably not see any notebook refresh in the fall. Fall will be mostly iPad Pro centric. Q1 2016 (like this years march event) we'll see Skylake with hopefully complete redesigns.

I would love an all metal 15" with the same screen but smaller form factor. Those big speaker grills are really not needed everybody wears head/earphones anyway.

One thing is for sure though. Intel screwing up the Broadwell release has really messed things up.

I don't think mcarling said anything about an event in October, just that they raised the possibility of a Broadwell CPU upgrade - assuming that Intel don't can Broadwell-H completely, which is a possibility.

I also don't think that Skylake is likely to be anywhere near ready for "launch" at Computex. My understanding was that Intel will officially launch Skylake at their conference in August, but that it is likely to take a couple of months to ramp-up production of even the first CPU family. This may well be Skylake-Y (for tablets, ultraportables, such as the rMB), and who knows when Skylake-H (for rMBP 15) will be available.

My educated guess is that we won't see a new rMBP 15 until Q1 2016 at the earliest.

Yes! I think this silent update, just a tic, is good news for those waiting for Skylake. Rather than being stuck with Broadwell MBP's until next year I think this, old 4th gen equipped 'update', makes it more likely the rumors are correct in that they'll announce a MBP 'Toc' at WWDC, a Skylake equipped laptop this fall.

Do you mean on this event or the one in sept oct ?

im holding myself of from buying ;p in the expectations to buy with redesign

brace myself, wwdc is coming xD

Ideally I'd like to see a Skylake notebook in a new form factor with Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C 3.1.

Dunno which it'll be but I'm rather relieved to NOT see Broadwell mentioned.
