To me, if Apple did not hold a Mac event before the earnings call, then they could defend declining Mac sales as due to interest in iPad Pros for computing - rather than lack of updates.
This way they can more smoothly introduce people to the idea of dropping the Mac line entirely over the coming years.
Confirmed: no new Macs before earnings call.

Except iPad sales are declining too.

People keep saying that Apple wants to kill the Mac. I don't think this is necessarily true...while they probably expect iPad's and iPhones to steal plenty of marketshare from the Mac, the laptop form factor is still great. I think the Mac slowdown we're seeing is probably just a symptom of the overall slowdown in the pace of laptop innovation.

Laptops are really good these days, and there really isn't much demand to make them significantly better.

I actually don't particularly. I don't necessarily see how they would fill one, the only things there has been any credible rumours about are new MacBook Pros and an update to the iMac which presumably would just be a GPU update. Not going to be much of an event based on that but we'll see I suppose.

Did you forget about the watch band (March) event? They chewed up half an hour on iMessages and another half hour on bands. They can most certainly kill a couple hours on their entire Mac lineup that's way overdue. Look at the iPhone event. What's they do? Watch is the same, new proc and GPS. iPhone, new prof and camera. MacBookPro new proc, new chassis, new ports, new keyboard/touchpad, new oled bar (and maybe touchID). The new MBP alone would suffice for an event, let alone the rest of the Mac line that needs updates!

Regarding the Gurman Interview, i myself also saw it on this forum quite a few pages back. if i recall correctly, he said "...they will be released this month..."

i will try to look for it a little later. I should note, though, that its entirely possible that the interview was from awhile back, and so when he said "this month", maybe it was in like September or something. I dont recall that being the case, but my memory is also kinda bad, so idk. Ill look for it though. and Ill get back to you guys who asked for it. @Rob_2811 and @thefauxtography

He was pretty clear it would be this month and was knocking the table pretty hard with his knuckle when he did it as if to make a clear statement. I have faith they will be released soon, all rumours have said this.
In the meantime I won't be posting much more to this thread as I don't have anything more to say!
I am waiting for Skylaked out now and will be back when we have more solid info, as in an invite or actual product :)

Your mixing the March event up with WWDC, the iMessage stuff was at WWDC. I dont know maybe there will be. We'll find out in the next couple of weeks.

Sigh, I too have descended into checking this thread far too often.

Guys...seriously. Stop saying repetitive nonsense like "This is the last MBP update" or "Tim doesn't even use Macs he just has an iPad Pro".

When you ANNOUNCE a product, for marketing, especially a powerful tablet like the iPad Pro, you want to make headlines and obviously you say "This can replace a computer", because the end result is SALES. Like companies all mean 100% what they say, right?

If you all just open your eyes and look at this interview from Feb,2016 in TIM COOK'S OFFICE -->
, he has an iMac front and center in front of his desk, and in the back there's a smaller Macbook.

Apple hasn't necessarily "dropped the ball". Take the Macbook Pro for example:

October 14, 2008 (unibody release)
June 11, 2012 (unibody with Retina Display release)
March 9, 2015 (current release, 13-inch)
May 19, 2015 (current release, 15-inch)
Every 4 years, a significant upgrade (assuming we get a "significant upgrade" in 2016).

Mac Mini and Mac Pro are niche products that Apple likely has no interest in developing further. The 12in Macbook is effectively a MBA. The iMac being a year old is...not a big deal.

As frustrated as I am, it seems to me that Apple is excelling on all of the fronts they're interested in excelling on.

So, do you want a refill on your Kool-Aid there? It seems you're drinking it in gulps.

So I think the event will have to be before the earnings call..
therefore
the event will have to be next week...
therefore
the invited will go out this week! like tomorrow or Thursday.

Am I wrong?

not @WRONG

ok of course Tim Cook uses Macs.

I think most people my self included were joking when we said Tim Cook doesn't like / doesn't care about macs.

Hmmm.

The deciding factor for me is the pricing. Obviously the pound is absolutely in the bin at the moment but £1700 buys you the top end Xps 15 4k display, USB C, Quad core i7 ,16 gb RAM, 512 SSD, Nvidia GTX 960 in the UK. The current (Haswell ) MacBook Pro 15 will cost you £1999 for a similarly specced machine. So there is already a £300 premium for the Mac with its 4th Gen CPU vs the Dells 6th Gen. That premium can't afford to get any bigger for me, if it does i'm out.

Theres only so much you can put down to currency fluctuations. Dell are working with exactly the same economic conditions.

My point still stands, they find filler stuff to discuss in all keynotes. That's why you always find the 'shortened' ones on YouTube that condense a two hour keynote into 10min or less.

Somewhere in past dozen (or so) pages, there was some discussion about the lack of chatter [someone was also talking about levels and I'm slipping fast...) meaning that there might not be an October event. What chatter qualifies as, um... authentic chatter (apparently excepting these past 1128 pages...)????

100% - I'll only start to worry if it's past October 20th and we have no invite. ALL PREVIOUS OCTOBER EVENTS INVITES HAPPEN 7/8 DAYS BEFORE LOOK IT UP PEOPLE - sorry for the caps but people are needlessly getting anxiety, far too early to panic yet
In that case, we can narrow it down to this week then for invites, no? There won't be an event between the 22nd and the 25th. That leaves this Friday as the last day for invites. Have they ever done an investors meeting before a big event? If so, then we have until the 20th as you said. Otherwise, this week is it.
