How many of you expect an ( Oct Event ) ..?

I actually don't particularly. I don't necessarily see how they would fill one, the only things there has been any credible rumours about are new MacBook Pros and an update to the iMac which presumably would just be a GPU update. Not going to be much of an event based on that but we'll see I suppose.

To me, if Apple did not hold a Mac event before the earnings call, then they could defend declining Mac sales as due to interest in iPad Pros for computing - rather than lack of updates.
This way they can more smoothly introduce people to the idea of dropping the Mac line entirely over the coming years.
Confirmed: no new Macs before earnings call.

Because that's actually true. Lots of people are buying tablets instead of computers. Of course we are not the case; but a lot of moms, dads, aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc; prefer a tablet. Why? Because they only browse facebook and create shopping lists.

On the other hand, computers have reached a place where they work fine for a very very long time. I have friends and acquaintances who have been with the same computer for over 10 years and they work just fine.

I really hate Apple right now because I want my new iMac but I can see why they are doing what they are doing.

Serious question:

in the last few years, or ever, has Apple ever had an earnings call before an event but after the invites were sent out?

It seems odd to have an the earnings call in the middle of that limbo period, where it is obvious apple is going to release new products, but apple is still tight lipped on them. There would be an elephant in the room during the conference call, Apple will not mention products or changes that are happening during their predictions or QA. But everyone on the call investors and such will know that apple is going to unveil new products. in 48 hours

thats true, it owuld be very awkward and unusual in that call. hopefully this means that we get an event before the earnings report (although ill admit that i dont know whether that makes sense for Apple or not)

Currently on the front page : "According to rumors, Apple is planning to introduce a revamped MacBook Pro as soon as next month"
And I was told I was wrong for basically saying it's not happening this month and tomorrow it's going to be yet another rumor

Anyway, still hope for the ones who are still waiting that you will get them soon !

Would put the base model 15 inch at about two grand. The moment they are selling a notebook for two grand with Intel Graphics is the moment you start shopping elsewhere.

Which is already the case in Norway. Current exchange rate and you are well above £2000 for the base model 15.

Pricing isn't only dictated by exchange rates of course, but my guess is that the new 15 will come in at 1999 at the cheapest. I would guess more.

So if before the call, that means invites would have to go out very soon.... this week.
unless the have an event on the 24th? is this possible? I don't remember why this date was ruled out by most people on this forum.

If apple sends invites out after the call then it would be in November.

Yeah. Not good really. The concern for me is the Apple actually increases the prices of these new machine which makes the cost in Europe even more eye watering.

Honestly, I don't think investors could care less about the Mac, it hardly moves the needle in the great scheme of things.

Yea I suppose. 5 million macs sold last quarter. say this year end apple refreshes the entire line and has an all new line up of redesigned and latest and greatest macs. I bet the amount of macs sold in a quarter will be like maybe 5.5 million.

I guess this is why Apple takes their time updating macs.

God curse you businesses and consumers that are buying outdated macs. Seriously, I am pissed at the buyers now.

the hope is that its a typo.

It's about as much revenue for Apple as the entire line of iPads, last I checked, so I'd say it's fairly important to investors (at least the ones who are halfway-decent at what they do).

If you look at US PC sales in that latest report from today pretty much all the big manufacturers, except for Apple, reported higher shipments this year compared to the same quarter last year... if I'm an investor that's the takeaway I get from this news.

Apple needs new Macs, ASAP.

There's just been no substantial rumor that suggests anything LATER than October, or specifically mentions November. It would be strange for MacRumors to cite "rumors" without explicitly mentioning said rumors...unless the rumors they're referring to are the Gurman/KGI October ones.

Hence, most likely a typo.

Also please link to that Gurman interview...I also missed it!

As an investor, wouldn't you be intrigued as to why Apple has dropped the ball on Macs?
Only the Mac 12" has had a (bump) update.
The iMac's a year old.
The MBP 1 1/2 years old
The MBA ~1 1/2 years
The Mac Mini 2 years.
The Mac Pro currently 2 months shy of 3 years since refresh.

What does that say about the company and it's stock? It might only be 10% of the company, but if Apple can't excel on multiple fronts, what does that hold? Are they giving up, or worse, just leaving product lines to wither?

I want there to be one; do I expect one? -- no, I'm a pessimist. I'm scared that Apple will wait till spring, if they don't have an event in October as there probably won't be one in November. November is packed (US Elections, US Thanksgiving). Then we get to the Holiday shopping season, and if they miss that? Why bother introducing one during the slow consumer season of January and February? That leaves March.

Apple hasn't necessarily "dropped the ball". Take the Macbook Pro for example:

October 14, 2008 (unibody release)
June 11, 2012 (unibody with Retina Display release)
March 9, 2015 (current release, 13-inch)
May 19, 2015 (current release, 15-inch)
Every 4 years, a significant upgrade (assuming we get a "significant upgrade" in 2016).

Mac Mini and Mac Pro are niche products that Apple likely has no interest in developing further. The 12in Macbook is effectively a MBA. The iMac being a year old is...not a big deal.

As frustrated as I am, it seems to me that Apple is excelling on all of the fronts they're interested in excelling on.

Well Apple got some good news with Samsung axing Note 7; that will be huge for iPhone 7 sales. So why bother with the Mac -- Macintosh no longer exists
