I have the 15" now, but it's a little too heavy for me for regular mobile use.

Meh, I've tested one. Weight is good for me. I had a 1.8Kg 13'' laptop, and I currently own a 15'' that weights 2.5kg, so the Retina 15's 2.0Kg are no problem. If I wanted lighter I'd go for the 13'' and then build a desktop PC.

Yeah the 13'' actually got Broadwell (the 15''s remained Haswells), and since they are iGPU only, the Skylakes that will replace them are not that meaningfully more powerfull. If I were to be on the market for a 13'' I'd be a lot less concerned about a new Mac.

Unfortunatly, I want the 15''.

"Does it mean dump your Skylake laptop and rush out to buy a Kaby Lake laptop? No, not at all. However, when you’re looking at a 20 to 25 percent difference between Kaby Lake and Broadwell, then you start to wonder. As you get to Haswell, where it probably opens up to 30 to 35 percent, or Ivy Bridge and even Sandy Bridge, then yes, an upgrade would be a game-changer." http://www.pcworld.com/article/3127...-what-optimization-can-do-for-a-14nm-cpu.html

Hi Tim, Phil, Jony,

Emailing in regard to the Mac lineup. While I am aware that a growing number of users are happy with a mobile oriented suite, I did want to express my enthusiasm for Mac as a long time Apple enthusiast. To me, no matter what the landscape, there is no replacement for a Macbook, iMac, or macOS or general desktop class computing for me. It is something I am very passionate about and I am long awaiting an update to the Mac line. As a mechanical engineer, the mobile operating systems and products, while great in their own element, are not even close to filling that usage case for me, and I don't feel that they ever will. I am hoping that there are people at Apple who still have the same dedication to full size computers as I know, while we are now a niche group, I do feel very strongly toward this.

Sincerely,

While we are all looking for scraps, this is a good sign :

https://www.macrumors.com/2016/10/14/apple-watch-nike-launch/

For free publicity sake Apple still likes taking down the entire online store to update it with a new product. That story says Apple will start selling the Apple Nike Watch in the 28th

So ... event on the 27th. Announce new MacBooks available the next day. Mention something about the airpods.

Store goes down on the 28th. Comes back up with
- apple nike watch
- airpods
-
....

....

....

MacBooks ?

So what are y'all looking to get in the new rMBP? I currently have a 13" Air (as seen below) and was dead set on getting a 13" MBP for a long time. With the long delay and presumed body redesign I'm leaning more towards a 15" MBP now because if it is redesigned, i think it will be close to my current Air's footprint. If i do get the 15" I'll probably get it with base RAM, storage and processor. This 2011 Air has been more than good enough for me these past 5 years so I really don't need the processing power. The only reason I'm getting a MBP instead of a MacBook is because I want a bigger retina screen than 12". I was set on getting a 512 GB SSD, but now that all of my photos are in iCloud Photo Library it's really not necessary. For most of the life of my Air i was hitting the limit of the 128 GB SSD, but since i started using iCloud Photo Library I have about 40 GB free.

I'm definitely going to order a pair of AirPods with my new MacBook Pro as well.

What Apple does care about though is proper retina and colour support. This is essential to their direction, and from what I've read Kaby Lake delivers important leap from skylake.

from the same article you quoted :
"The big upgrade is to the video engine, where Intel added a wealth of hardware support for such things as VP9 at 4K resolution and 10-bit color support for HEVC."

How much do you think the new 13" will be improved, compared to 2015, in terms of graphics?

Just go ahead and check out the performance increase of typical Broadwell versus Skylake itegrated GPUs...a few mere % at most. If you consider the Geekbench list, even the 2015 MBP is only 60% faster than a 2011 Air.

13" with 1 TB. Looking to turn my hackintosh into a gaming PC and use the laptop docked to a 4K and 1080p display. Hopefully the integrated Skylake graphics will handle that OK.

I could probably get away with 512 but it wouldn't be fun. (Honestly, I'd love it if Apple introduced a 750 GB. That size would be perfect for me.) I like having all my data local. I'm not sure what I'll do if Apple doesn't improve the storage tiers.

So what are y'all looking to get in the new rMBP?

I think I'm gonna go for a 13 inch with 16 gb ram. not sure about storage, I hope they remove the 128 like they removed the 16 for the iphone, so that i'd feel better about getting a 512 gb (cuz you know, it could cost less than now, and all)

So what are y'all looking to get in the new rMBP?

I'm basing my purchase on the current lineup. I'm right now looking at the less-powerful 15":
  • I don't need a dGPU, but the performance and screen space in the 15" would be lovely.
  • I'm stuck between getting the 256 GB and the 512 GB hard drive. I use well over 200 GB at the absolute minimum, so 512 would be better but not necessary. It would be very convenient if 512 is the new standard.
  • I need 16 GB RAM without a doubt.
  • Not too worried about graphics. I haven't had TOO many problems with my '13 13" pro, so I assume a '16 15" pro will be wonderful.

I've said it many times and my answer hasn't changed: Maxed out 15"

I want this to be a desktop substitute; I want this to be my main computer for listening to music (I have hundreds of GBs of lossless files), photo editing, schoolwork, and some music production. I also want it to last for the rest of college hopefully (which I just started this September).

I'm most looking forward to dGPU, 1 TB of SSD space, and a P3 gamut display. Don't care about a touch bar or increased thinness, but if they're there, so be it.

For your uses I dont think you'd need a dgpu. Then again, at that level adding a dgpu is only about an extra $50 or so, so why not

MacBook Pro 15 with high spec (no full) for me !!!
dGPU could be welcome but i hope that it doesn't fail...

I'm one of the shallow people :) - I want thin, and I want gold. 15", fastest processor, max memory, 512G drive.

I've got plenty of other devices I use - 12.9 and mini ipads for email and web browsing and book reading and writing. An old iMac for Handbrake. A NAS and appleTV4 for plex and image storage.

This one will be for simple pleasures - I probably won't even take it to work all that often, but it'll run Scrivener for me. Might get Lightroom. Maybe do some simple coding on it after I retire from my day job if I ever do.

It all depends if a new 27" monitor comes out. If it does I will get a maxed 15" and a maxed 13' [business & home]. If no monitor it wil be an maxed imac and the 13" :). I will just max out anything I can get my hands on..... however the 13" can be a macbook as it will be for lighter tasks and more mobility.
