at what I presumed would be a deep discount AFTER the release of the new one
Apple does not offer deep discounts, in fact if prior history is any indicator, the prior generation that goes into the refurb store has a price discount of around 14%. You may see some slightly better offers from B&H Video or Amazon, but again, I would not qualify them as deep discounts.

I've been monitoring this thread not because I plan to buy the Skylake macbook pro (especially not if it has that flat keyboard.) Instead, I've been planning to buy the current mbp at what I presumed would be a deep discount AFTER the release of the new one. I am still running my trusty early-2011 15", so any newish machine would feel like a huge leap, right? Now I'm starting to worry that it has been so long since the last update, that even the last pre-skylake mbp will be far from future-proof. My needs aren't ultra-intensive, but I use a pro machine for A/V editing and processing images and text from old newspapers (edge case I know.) As software and MacOS evolve to match the new machine (if it ever comes out) I wonder how quickly a 2015 vintage MBP will fade... any thoughts?

No guarantees this time, but when Apple updated the MacBook Pro to retina they also sold a discounted model with the non-retina design AND the newest chips. Both the retina 2012 and classic 2012 used the Ivy Bridge 3615/3720/3820 processors.

Oh just another fun thing came to my mind : what if there IS an even on the 27th BUT no MBP announced ??

Don't say things like that, it might push some of the forum members over the edge and make them do something stupid and reckless (like buying one of the current mac models at full price)

I still think the event will talk about new Macs and 4K Apple TV. I can see the watch and Airpods being mentioned, but only a little as those products were already highlighted at the iPhone announcement.
This.
To me it shows that product launches being the 28th. The event will be held on the 27th with shipping as tomorrow the 28th. I think it shows further proof on the 27th event date

Okay, I know we're all a bit crazed from the wait, but there is no way there is going to be an event without updated MBPs, like I would literally bomb Apple headquarters if that happened. They already talked about the Nike watch anyway, what else would the event be about? A Mac Pro? Don't make me laugh

There has been some awful nonsense posted in this thread today.

Convinced they are coming after the earnings call 27th/28th

when tim did say "stay tuned" it could have meant october.. november.. december... january... february.. march... who knows when :mad: im ready for disappointment if nothing happens by october 28th.

I have to reckon if the 27th is going to be the day, we'd have to have invites sent Mon/Tues of next week. Also, given the delay and how long it's been since the chassis leak, them (stock) suckers are going to be available same day or the next, with BTO taking a little longer (especially with the pent up demand from all you good folks here).

Myself, I think I'm going to resist all animalistic urges to buy the day of. I've got a work computer I can use in the meantime, I need to see reviews and how the OLED bar works in real-life scenarios.

Who am I kidding? I'll be buying that thing the minute I can.
