I've got about £1800 in the bank to spend and can add whatever my 2011 MBP sells for, plus about to sell my old iPhone 6Plus so should have around £2500 top budget

Is anyone else planning on financing? Why does it seem that everyone is about to blow like three grand all at once?

Barclays lets you finance with no interest for a year and a half. You need their credit card, but if you have decent credit it shouldn't be a problem.

Easy for me.
I choose my favorite rMBP and from that point I start saving money. The time I have enough saved up, I'm going to buy it cash. This may take some time, jeah. But I wont buy the new rMBP blind anyways. Waiting for some reviews, tests and opinions. Touching it 2-3 times in stores ... then see if its worth ;-)

I use credits only for 2 things .... Car and house.

I'm using my student discount and then ordering online via my uncle's business card so he can claim the VAT tax back. Gonna max it out full specs on a 15"

I hope the 13 inch MBP with 16GB RAM won't go above 1600 EUR after student discount... Otherwise I hope I can raise the limit of my CC.

is Recode even reliable?

Why is their report treated as fact when it is a rumor? Wishful thinking?
I'd say its less about one specific source and more about these reports are now coming out more and more. Plus Walt Mossberg writes for them, so I'd say that adds to how connected they are

i think WRONG :D

Iz-a-mee!
But original quote is from @Dydegu (thanks, man!)

Is anyone else planning on financing?

If you mean "financing" as "asking my parents for my bachelor's degree present I should have received 20 months ago but at that time the rMBP was still awful" so yes, I'm planning on financing.
But I have some money spared, so we'll divide the cost.

For those buying in the UK with uni student discount, I suggest using the site store to order rather than instore. Although both will provide comparable discounts, I have been advised that only the online store provide complimentary 3 years warranty - instore can only provide 3 years warranty if you take out the Applecare (at the student discounted price).

Ok, never heard of them before. But certainly hoping all the hype is true!

Here's hoping the prices don't go up to much.

Current dGPU 15'' is 2550€ here (with student discounts, on Apple's website). I hope it doesnt go above 2600...
2799€ here in Spain (without student discount). There's anyway to get this discount if I finished my studies 2 years ago? :D
I'd be willing to pay those 2800 for 32gb RAM and 1TB SSD.

Now if you want to get 1TB SSD you have to pay an extra of 600€ (3400€ in total...) , it's far too much in my opinion.

As a student I can buy two rMBPs with my discount, right?
In the App Store App I can't access the Education Store?
Nope, just one

Faculty, Staff and Students purchasing from the Apple Store for Education Individuals will be allowed to purchase the following quantities of product per academic school year. Not all products have special Education Pricing.

  1. 1. Desktop: One (1) may be purchased per year
  2. 2. Mac mini: One (1) may be purchased per year
  3. 3. Notebook: One (1) may be purchased per year
  4. 4. iPad: Two (2) may be purchased per year
  5. 5. Display: A maximum of two (2) may be purchased per year
  6. 6. Software: A maximum of two (2) per software title may be purchased per year

If by "financing" you mean asking parents for "financial aid" then yes, I already did that. In fact, my bank account is loaded so I'll just the goddamn link to order my Mac.

I did my internship at Deloitte this summer (which is somewhat an accomplishment for a university student) so hopefully Daddy and Mommy will not be so mad at me spending over 2 grand.

Ask a friend who is still a student and go in store. I checked the online store too (France) and I'm pretty sure you can buy directly on th education store without any proof ... to be confirmed because never went past the simulation and to the actual payment.

So, first-time poster but I've been following this thread for quite some time on and off. In terms of apple products I currently own an old Ipad 2 and I also had an iPhone 4 quite some time ago.

I'm thinking of making the switch to the Apple ecosystem, starting with the iPhone 7+ (which I will buy probably this week) and now also with the new macbook pro.

Considering I live in Europe/Ireland, after Apple announces the new macs on the 27th, how long before I can actually order/get one in my hands do you think is going to take? I am mainly hoping for fellow Europeans to answer my query, hoping there are a few here :).

Thanks!

Usually for Macs they are available to order the same time as any other countries ex. US, and I live in Poland which gets everything last :p

How exactly was it awful?

In March 2015, the 15" was still sporting the NVIDIA GT750M, plus the same battery it had from its introduction, and the Haswell CPU (which is the same it is still sporting now...).
It was already kinda old
Skylake was already rumored, so as new GPUs suitable for the MBP.
As I didn't really needed a new computer at that time, I waited for June, when Skylake was officially introduced by Intel.
But back in June, 15" MBP was "upgraded" with the AMD 370X and a slightly better battery. So I started (delusionally) hoping for an Q4 2015 Skylake release.
And it didn't happen.
Then March.
Then WWDC.
Then September Event.
And finally, here we are, october.

What a long journey...
