In March 2015, the 15" was still sporting the NVIDIA GT750M, plus the same battery it had from its introduction, and the Haswell CPU (which is the same it is still sporting now...).
It was already kinda old
Skylake was already rumored, so as new GPUs suitable for the MBP.
As I didn't really needed a new computer at that time, I waited for June, when Skylake was officially introduced by Intel.
But back in June, 15" MBP was "upgraded" with the AMD 370X and a slightly better battery. So I started (delusionally) hoping for an Q4 2015 Skylake release.
And it didn't happen.
Then March.
Then WWDC.
Then September Event.
And finally, here we are, october.

What a long journey...

Ok, I thought you were talking about the 13". While also not really upgraded in a while, it's still pretty good (but not at value for money, really overpriced)

So yesterday I started a new job that I had interviewed for on the day of Apple's September event. The writing assignment during the interview was to write a pitch like I was selling the original iPod in 2001.

They gave me a brand new Dell all in one desktop (Wndows 7, though...) for my office. I checked the processor and just laughed when I saw it had Skylake. I mean, I'm not sure what I was expecting as it's a new computer, but I've never used a machine with Skylake before. Then later that day of course all the Mac event rumors came out. It all comes full circle, you see.

And damn... I just realized I need to find a way to watch the event from work. I need to find some other Apple fans and quick. It sounds like it'll be a shorter event like Loop (and I'm fine with that this time around) so a strategically placed lunch break should have me covered.

As a student I can buy two rMBPs with my discount, right?
In the App Store App I can't access the Education Store?
AFAIK, you're eligible for edu discount once per year for computers (desktop or mobile).
The same applies for for iDevices, which count separately.

Hmmm hope it's an irony!

I'm scared about this "only USB-C" thing... What I'm going to do with my4 hard drives, pendrives, monitors...? I'll have to buy a adaptors for everything!! It really sucks.

You could also just swap cables, for devices which use removable cables. Much nicer solution than an adaptor.

If you mean "financing" as "asking my parents for my bachelor's degree present I should have received 20 months ago but at that time the rMBP was still awful" so yes, I'm planning on financing.
But I have some money spared, so we'll divide the cost.

That's exactly my story! LOL

I graduated during last July and my parents gave me 2000€ for a new laptop, they are still asking me when and where I spent them, considering they always see me with my old 2010 Vaio. They'll discover truth soon....!

2799€ here in Spain (without student discount). There's anyway to get this discount if I finished my studies 2 years ago? :D

Go to your old university, meet a girl, use your charme and show her your graduation, go out and when she will be your fiancèe (this is optional, maybe she'll trust you earlier) then use her student discount at the nearest Apple Store. Be only careful that she had not spent her discount yet.

Trust me, it works 10/10.

I hope it really is on Thursday, I am always busy on Wednesday evenings (group therapy for Skylake addicts) so I miss the first hour of the event and have to catch up with the MR summary on the tram back home.

It's so handy that Apple don't update their computers so often nowadays, I found that when you do this every year there's a chance two of them know each other and they get all suspicious. Also some of them didn't want to date me anymore after I asked about their student discounts at Apple store when we were doing the squelchy. Weirdos.

Right here's my somewhat educated guess on the timelines for October..

  • This week: MacOS Beta is finalised and ready for release
  • 19th/20th October - invite drops 7-8 days out to fit the rough timeframe of past October Mac Events:
(16th Oct 2012 invite > 23rd Oct 2012 event)

(15th Oct 2013 invite > 22nd Oct 2013 event)

(8th Oct 2014 invite > 16th Oct 2014 event)
  • 27th October - Macs Event with purchase day of announcement with 1-2 week wait for custom config builds
  • 28th October - funeral of this thread RIP, it's been real
I was right:D

So everyone is reporting the Re/Code story as 'fact' - does this mean they are simply a proxy so that everyone can confirm the open secret, while blaming Re/Code for the leak, we're all good folks officially keeping Apple's secrets and embargoes?
