I know this reply is probably 10 pages in, but this thread is moving way too fast.
I think you're placing too much emphasis on the word "Pro." There are a lot of professionals out there, including content writers and even YouTube video editors who can get by on older machines. And then there are people like you who "need" faster machines. Everyone makes a choice about what works best for them, and for some a long-lasting "Pro" machine beats a MacBook which might cost a few hundred less but will be useless faster than a more upgraded MacBook Pro.
But if you're getting 1.5 to 2X productivity gains from a machine upgrade, that means human input is a very small part of your process. In which case, why even use a laptop in the first place? You'll never get the sheer power of a desktop, especially a custom one running Windows or Linux, out of a Mac laptop or even an iMac or Mac Pro. If performance is your only metric, it would be rather dumb to buy a MacBook Pro. The MBP is a trade off between strong-ish performance, a solid OS for human input and stabikity, and enough portability that you can work almost anywhere. Human input over performance has ALWAYS been Mac's strength.
You're mad because Apple releases machines that aren't the top of the line in terms of performance, but you should really be mad at the form factor more than Apple. Get a production-focused machine that weighs 10lbs (22kg) if performance is your key, or simply build a custom PC. Otherwise, accept the trade offs and enjoy a MBP for what it is.
