Maybe "Hello Again" IS a Mac rethink.

I can't imagine Desktop Macs are selling in crazy numbers.

So .....

- Kill the iMac and Mac Pro
- Rename Mac Mini just "mac". Make the CPU *very* configurable. Include integrated graphics.
- Have USB C external graphic boxes. From basic to fancy.
- Sell a 4k & 5K external Monitor

The desktop Mac line then is a Mac box you buy, which you can configure with external boxes, and optionally you can buy a retina Apple monitor to go with it.

Not sure if you're joking or not, but it's something I'd be torn about if it comes up. I'd love that extra screen real estate, and the potential of what else you could fit inside the body (is 2 inches enough for an additional SSD?). But I do edit a lot on a train, so I wonder if that would become impossible.

While apple begs to differ and actual sales of macs don't show much demand, there's quite a number of people on these forums who would actually go for a 17 inch laptop. I think the lack of very nice premium 17 laptops are lacking and it's been a very very long time since we had a 17 inch MBP, they'd actually see a pretty good bump in 17" sales. At least for the first generation. Can't speak for future generations.

I would jump on a 17" inch version pretty quickly, especially if they slimmed it down some more and it became something like a 17" air :D

Interesting, but perhaps most probable for PC supplier as Apple has never been about such configurable systems. Anyway, iMacs are great and probably the most popular stationary Mac(?)

And Apple will Make Mac Pros great again!

Why would you need a new mac every single year...

especially with a 500+ day refresh window. Although, one would hope they would quickly update the line to Kaby Lake as the appropriate chips become available. Maybe at the March event in 2017 or WWDC?

dead serious. 17" rMBP under 4 pounds and 24 hour battery life.

I assume they're going to take at least a year to update it again

I hope Apple creates a macbook upgrade program. $70~90 a month for a brand new laptop every year. I would get it right away

That'd be a good idea, but instead of every year, it'd have to be every 3 years. Not enough changes in the Mac line to justify annual upgrades. Also not worth the headache of moving your data over. @ $70 per month I'd do it, but only for a maxed out 15" with accidental coverage.

I like to make memories with my laptops, so I wouldn't like that.

Using it on the bearskin rug, near the fireplace. I can't be changing it every year.

I haven't used the latest XPS machines directly, but have read that they're pretty decent machines except for two things. One, reviews say the trackpad still can't compete to trackpads of Macs released a decade ago. And two, macOS is still better then Windows. As for the overall design/aesthetics of the machine, I'd still take the original unibody models over anything Dell has released. It's not to say that the Dell's aren't good, it's just that the Macs are that much better.

Oh, I have both an rMBP late 2013 (1TB SSD, 16GB Memory, need it for work) and a Dell Precision 5510 (i7 6820HQ, 1TB Pcie-SSD, 2TB SATA SSD, 32 GB Memory).
I only work with the rMBP when needed and avoid to touch it as much as I can. Even the Dells trackpad is better, touch screen is nice to have and the 4k display is amazing, Windows 10 Pro and Linux are running great.

They may kill the Mac Pro and even the mac Mini but I don't believe they would kill the iMac. I think that of the 3 desktops it's the most "iconic" one.

Heh, good luck with that!
Why not just get applecare off of ebay for cheaper than it is in apple stores? Then just hope in the 3 years or even the first few years things go wrong with it many times. I know I am always talking about it but the MacBook Pro I have will be getting replaced when the new MacBook Pro's are released (because I have had many repairs on it including the track pad and ssd).

I have the new 15 inch xps and after adjusting the touchpad to mimick the MacBook's (2 fingers for right click, etc), I find no difference actually. If you use the touchpad as set up in windows (left side left click, right sight right click), then it isn't as good.

For the XPS design/aesthetics, I like it. Resting my wrists on the carbon fiber is much more comfortable than the aluminum top that is surrounding the touchpad/keyboard. Another advantage of the design of the XPS is that there is much more vents for ventilation than the MacBook (bottom the laptop). For durability, I would say the unibody build of the MacBook will be more durable; however, if you drop it on the floor, both would probably take some damage.

When it comes to the bezel, I'll never go back to a laptop with a bezel (windows or Mac). To me, it makes me focus on what is on the screen much more. When it comes to the webcam, I never really used it on my MacBook Pro and I never use it on my Imac now so it's not an issue for me

Quick question.

I have a virtual gift card to Apple. I've added it to my Wallet on my iPhone. Am I able to use this gift card when making a purchase through the Apple Store app? I didn't see an option anywhere? Maybe it pops up when I pay with Apple Pay?

I apologize in advance for going off topic, but it seems like many people here use virtual machines.

I'm coming back to Mac after a bit and I've been checking out the apps I'll need. I'm a have virtual machine user and use VMware Workstation on my Windows and Linux hosts. I'd like to stay in the VMware world with Fusion since I think that will be the easiest way to move my machines around and while reading I came across an article saying that VMware Fusion can work with Windows installed through Boot Camp. They make it sound like I can install Windows 10 on the Mac using Boot Camp and then access that through Fusion. This would allow me to either use Boot Camp or Fusion to access that installation going forward. Has anyone used this feature and can comment on how well it works? I would love this feature if it is working as I understand it.
I don't know about Fusion, but Parallels works that way (piggy-backs off the Bootcamp installation of Windows.) It works exactly as you would expect. I really can't say enough good things about Parallels.

Is it an Apple Store gift card or iTunes? iTunes cards can't be used for hardware purchases. If it's Apple Store then it should show a credit when going through checkout.

Guys, I am in real need of a laptop right now(basically without one), but wish to wait till the new MPBs arrive. Do you guys believe it would be out the day of release? Should I go and get the current or the older MPB and return on the launch. I really need a machine right now.

Of course it'll be out the day of release, isn't that what the word release means. I am really hoping it'll be out next Thursday when it's ANNOUNCED.

It'll be announced and released the same day. Plenty of Sierra betas have been pushed to get a final code released for deliverable units. Now how long it'll take to get the unit after you put an order in is the question. I'm guessing most people will have to wait 2-4 weeks.
