People in Australia: how quickly would one expect the new Macbook Pros to be available in Australia after 27th? (given the time here when the event is running will be 4am on Friday 28th)

And will I get one more quickly if I go to a store? Or order online? I'm in Sydney if that helps - closest store is CBD.

If the 2013 Keynote is anything to go by, they were available to order "today".

The online store shuts down for maintenance then re-opens with all the new stuff.
Can't remember what the delivery time was though, in terms of immediate or not.

As for what's quicker; instore v online purchase....not sure on that one.

Hey there,

So I would be buying my first macbook pro once Apple makes it available. Is it wise to wait first for reviews before buying the product? Have there been any "gate" issues with the mac in previous generations?

Any gate issues are remedied even outside of your warranty period. This has happened several times in the past, though it takes a few years to discover. I wouldn't worry about it. Welcome to the club.

For people who hate/hated the butterfly keyboard, how long did it take you to get used to it or enjoy it? I tried out the Macbook at the Apple store and hated it. I've been using Thinkpads for the last 10ish years so it's probably a bigger difference than if I was using a MBP. People say once they get used to it, it feels great and they can type extremely quickly, but I'm kind of skeptical.

When I tried it out for a couple of minutes, I hated it. Hateeed it!
But after using rMB for a while, now I hate and love it. Love it coz you can really type more accurately and way faster. Not that hard to get used to it.

But hate it coz the quality of the keyboard is really bad. Stuck keys, falling out keys, etc. Just google it, you will find a lot of people complaining. Even on this forum.

If they can fix that issues, I would love to have butterfly keyboard on rMBP.

If you buy a dock from Apple you'll be ***ed by the money that you spend.

That said, I want them to make a TB3 dock because there isn't a good one in existence yet.

Cadigit usb-c dock is out there. And works like a charm. With windows laptops, and with rMB. They even supply the usb-c tb3 cable.

I think in the past if you were super quick to order a BTO, it would take 1-2 weeks for the order to arrive depending on what you went for, how quick you ordered and stock levels. Obviously if you wait a few hours after the orders go live then expect another week or 2 further delay.

Anybody else remember this matte black looking mac in the back? I always thought it was hints at the computers they where working on. But its a macbook space gray i believe.

In 2013 I ordered a BTO 15" rMBP and it took a little bit over 2 weeks to arrive. All orders with the high end CPU (4950HQ) took way longer to ship compared to the lower end CPUs (4750/4850HQ). I hope this time around shipments will be quicker.

I'm also curious if Apple will show us a thunderbolt 3 dock. The big Dell dock with two DisplayPort looks cool, but i don't think it will work with a Mac and it seems to be really bugged. The smaller one seems to be working.

Had an XPS 15 9550 (sold three days ago), had the WD15 dock, was buggy on the XPS -_- I doubt it would work on a mac. Had to install 5+ drivers in a particular order with multiple restarts to get it to work. It's awful.

Just wondering (for those who will order a customized version). If the pre-order started on 27.. and ordered mine on let say Nov/2.. will that really affect the shipping date a lot? anyone remember how was the case on 2012??

I ordered a customized 2012 on release day and had it shipped exactly one month later. I'm thinking this round will be worse as there's more pent-up demand.

I'd rather pay extra than fry my computer using a 3rd party cable

Spend your money on AppleCare instead.

We made it this far!
Just 100 hours to go!

100 - 32 = 68 Hours

Sleeping hours don't count

Guys, is the difference in performance between a 2.5 GHz and max 2.8 GHz (15") very noticeable?

I want to make this Macbook my daily driver for next 4-ish years to come, not having to worry about performance and stuff and that's why I want to max it out as much as possible.

Do you think that 2.8 GHz is worth the extra money, provided I do my videos in Premiere Pro? And that's pretty much the only high demanding task I do on a laptop (video editing)

I didn't see this hub before :
https://www.amazon.fr/livraison-pui...coding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MP06P536HP53RGYCH8QR

Anybody with experience with it ?

I plan to get this kind of hub, in order to switch easily from closed MBP with desktop display and HDDs attached, to laptop config, so looking at the possibilities..

Besides this one, there is :
https://www.amazon.fr/MINIX-NEO-USB...01ANITHVQ/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

And :
https://www.amazon.fr/dp/B01K4UIDL8?psc=1

Any other ?

Note : it looks like none of them has an optical audio out interface ?
(by the way if the new MBP keep the audio jack, I hope they will also be optical audio out)

Also none has an additional USB C besides power, as I plan to also buy a 4K display with USB C in, such as :
https://www.amazon.fr/LG-27UD88-W-E...ie=UTF8&qid=1477228761&sr=1-1&keywords=27UD88
(but then I could drive that one with HDMI)

That's really only something you can answer. If you can financially afford it, then why not? To me, if you gotta ask then the money can be spent on something more worthwhile for you.
