as a result the integrated 15in has problems since it wasn't designed with no dgpu in the first place. I may be wrong. does anyone know about this?

You're correct that they can't allocate extra space even if it's only used in one configuration. What makes you suggest that the one with no dgpu has problems? Almost every other generation had problems with the dgpu implementation. Lacking one shouldn't cause any new issues.

I know there were already many questions about the student discount. What exactly in the account is Apple checking to make sure you are actually eligable for it? I tried the buying process until the last step now and nowhere they ask for the Unidays account.

Forbes citing Analyst: “The supply is going to be tight on these initially,” Rhoda Alexander, an analyst at IHS Markit Technology, told me in a phone conversation. “Production is starting pretty late. Pretty late for a launch that’s this month,” she said.

IHS originally thought production had begun earlier. “The production was slated to start in Q2 but got delayed. We saw some initial [production] runs — then it got back-burnered,” she said, adding that production began in this (the fourth) quarter.

Hey all, I have been watching this thread for quite some time, so when I made a trip to Best Buy the other day, I asked an employee about the new MBPs. He said that he was under an NDA but he did tell me a few things.
1. He had a hands-on demo of one in around March
2. When asked about ports he seemed to affirm that they were most, if not all usb-c
3. when asked about the dGPU, he said that at the time that he used it the dGPU had not been announced
4. He said that the BTO options were going to be expanded
5. He said that we would be pretty happy with what they came up with.

You should probably take this with a grain of salt, but, for me, the part that stood out the most was that the configs were being expanded, which is very exciting. That could mean different/more storage options, higher ram options, possibly multiple video card options (tho I find that unlikely). All that being said, I am very excited for the new MBPs

NOT ONE SOUL at bestbuy would be shown ANYTHING from Apple over 6mo in advance. Not even a USB-C dongle. NOTHING. So stop spreading this BS around.

Is there a change this means that the leaks we saw were from the inicial production runs, and they scraped it all and made a different chassis (possibly with magsafe and/or other ports)?

Not at that short notice.

They wouldn't know anything about BTO options either.

Oh my goodness, if you even believe one word that came out of his mouth, I've got a Kaby Lake MacBook Pro with a wide array of ports to sell to you, including a headphone jack. If you're ready to buy it, just PayPal $2,000 to the "Waiting for Skylake" party fund that I just setup. And then I'll ship it to you the same day...

They don't. It's on the honor system, though they will randomly audit people. If you buy in store, though, they always ask for your ID.

UK FAM!

I just read that Microsoft spiked their prices 22% in wake of declining value of the pound (**** Brexit now foreal and the Government being bslapped by Brussels).

Should we expect the same for the MBPs? (please noooo)

iPhones went up enough so you could feel the difference in your bank account (my 7+ was £819, and this January I bought the 6s+ for like a £100 less).

I have my 10% UniDays discount and top spec MBP (Current) is £2300 now. Should I expect that to stay there or go to the £2500 mark after discount?

Probably.

Actually have they bumped the price of the current models over here recently? I know the iPhone and iPad have had a price adjustment.

This will be a Rev. A product and they don't make em like they used to. I'd say it's worth it.

I have had apple care on a previous macbook, airport extreme, and ipods. Used it only once for the magsafe powersupply on the macbook. In general, I don't get it anymore, but I highly agree with the comment about a Rev A product and definitely plan to get applecare for my new MBP.

To be honest, I'm not too sure... I remember them being cheaper but then again UniDays used to be 15% until a couple months ago so that may account for the price change.

I honestly hope that price points stay the same, at least for this initial period

Yeah so do I. Oh well we will know in a few days I suppose.

why is one 40$ more?
I did the 2.2ghz first then added the dgpu and 500gig hard drive.
second one was 2.5 with 500 gig first then added the dgpu

The article says its not the supplier port's job to regulate how much power it can supply. i disagree with this and think the supplier port must regulate how much power it can supply.

Beside that point, the article is from Feb, and i have not seen any mass report of USB C devices getting fried.

I thought so, too. Both port and consuming device must regulate power by negotiating, right? However, this will not help if the cable is wired incorrectly like in the article.
And sure, it's a bit older, but the linked resources should help anyone with choosing the right accessories. And since some people bought USB c stuff quite a while ago this seems relevant to the thread.

Maybe Apple will stagger the release like before. 13" first then 15" later. Although, the magic whatchamacallit and touchID could be a problem for both sizes so who knows. Next week's event is a nail bitter for sure.
