To those who aren't anti-Windows/considered Windows - is there anything Microsoft can announce this Wednesday that could convert you into getting the next Surface/Surface Pro?

A lot of rumours about a Surface Phone coming out - if they manage to actually create a decent one, it is food for thought with regards to jumping eco-system.

Only if they made a laptop as well built as a mac (Surface Book 2?), with 10h of battery life and a quad core cpu, with decent gpu.

Which is not gonna happen, they only use dual core cpu's. And the Surface's end up actually being more expensive than a Mac.

I'd be happy to use a dog **** as long as it didn't have windows on it!

If they made a Surface Book that is not made to break down after a few years and that's not pretty much irreparable like the first one, can have its screen detached without needing 10 (?) % battery life and has proper rubber stoppers on the bottom that prevent it from sliding around, I'm sold.

The first one was suprisingly good, one of the best touchpads on a Windows device like...ever.. and good battery life paired with a great screen.

Surface Pro? Not so much. Windows just can't be as well optimized as MacOS, so I doubt these things will have a battery life >6 hours.

With that being said, they'll probably just announce an AiO-PC, basically their iMac equivalent. So I'm probably not buying anything they'll announce this Wednesday.

In i need to do some gaming , it's done on the PC and fior the rest I use the Mac.

Yep, aside from the generally poor graphics in the MBP, mac ports are usually not well optimized to begin with. Finally got a gaming workstation and enjoy being able to play whatever I want @ max specs.

It wouldn't be difficult to add a magsafe style disconnect at the charger end. Probably not as effective as saving your Mac crashing to the floor but would at least add some protection.

Is she implying that Apple will just update the externals of the rMBP and wait until next year for KabyLake?

Nope, that wouldn't make any sense when Skylake 45 watt CPU's and now AMD Polaris GPU's are finally ready to rock & roll.

I'm not even sure what she is talking about since there isn't a suitable Kaby Lake with Iris Pro GPU for the MBP even next year as far as I know.

I just realized that the Macbook Pros cheapest model (128GB) is priced similar to mid-range 21' iMac, and the top of the line '15 MBP ($2500) is more expensive than the top of the line 27-inch iMac. Is this 1998?

The time has finally come! i have been waiting patiently for the last year and a half! I am still running a Late 2008 MBP with a blazing fast 2.53GHZ Core 2 Duo! It has trouble playing 1080p videos on Netflix and Youtube.

The best feature of my laptop is that the screen is broken and it is being held together by a vice grip. The battery dies at 94%, so i need to be tethered. Come thursday, i will be free from the shackles of this laptop. I cannot wait until thursday! I dont think ive ever been this excited for an Apple event

Here are some pictures of what im working with

What laptop is everyone else upgrading from. I feel like i have the oldest machine here!

I thought I am one of the worst here but you win. I have MBP '13 2 GHZ core 2 duo. Upgraded HDD twice, replaced battery, replaced charger, and upgraded RAM to 6 GB.

to be honest it still runs ok for browsing, and it can do many things albeit a tad slow for this day and age.

I'm still using a Mid 2007 here. It has a lot of history:
- Power supply replaced. It started not charging anymore.
- Battery replaced. Laptop was shutting down even if it said plenty of battery was left.
- Upgraded RAM to 4GB
- Logic board replaced (Nvidia GPU disease). Had to pay for it.
- Original HDD started to have bad sectors and hung, replaced with a "Hybrid" drive
- Power supplied broke again, replaced by cheap knock-off. Then I started not trusting the cheap one so I started to use my girl friend's power supply which is on its last leg and all frayed.
- Battery started swelling, I started using it without battery. Then I found out that the CPU is underclocked when you don't have a battery. So I bought a cheap unofficial battery.
- I got hit by a car while I was biking and it was in my backpack. The body is now crooked and opened all around the sides, but it still works.
- It recently fell off from pretty high while turned on and the hard drive completely died. I bought a cheap SSD as a replacement.

I also use a Dell Latitude (Haswell CPU) at work which I find completely unusable on the go. Its track-pad is terrible and the laptop doesn't suspend correctly which makes it unusable for usage in transit. 4-5 times a day I have to save everything, shutdown and boot again...or leave it cooking in my backpack. It has so many moving parts that it feels like something is going to fall off every time I pick it up - and sometimes it happens: the DVD-drive pops-out by itself. So...I still use by MBP 2007 everyday!

You think yours is hardcore ? the logic board of mine is bent ! Its been running like this for 10 months and has gone through more then 6 trips to the oven

My God, this collection of ultra-long-lasting MBP is amazing.
My 2009 MBP Core2Duo with f***** battery and GPU can't really compete with those.
In order, we have
- a Die Hard MBP. That vice grip is simply amazing! It take full advantage of the bending screen!
- a Rambo MBP. No matter how long Sylvester Stallone get old, it will continue to fight
- my favourite: the Frankenstein! The thinner, simplest MBP ever made. Jony Ive will be proud.
Baked in the oven, disassembled and resurrected back to life multiple times.

Congratulations guys, you seriously deserve some recognition.
But you are going to receive just dongles...
:D

I missed the last 500 pages because I had visitors over the weekend. Any interesting meltdowns or leaks?

Some more rumors about the MBP from Ming Li Kuo (check the MacRumors frontpage, article should be still there), a slight return of the Serban, a granny under Apple NDA, but most importantly this hardcore warrior veterans MBPs. ^

Will be interesting to see what Microsoft offers up before apples event - Paul Thurrot points valid point - currently a minimum spec Sirface Book costs more than a fully specified new Kaby Lake maxed out HP Spectre 2016 which is more SSD RAM light thinner etc. A true Microsoft AIO iMac rival and a true MBP rival might help keep Apple refreshing the amacs a bit more?

Yeah, Thurrott points to a AIO since the Kaby Lake chips aren't out yet for the Surface Pro and Surface Book

I expect to see an AIO from MS, which may trump apple since its being reported that the iMac isn't ready for rollout, so Apple's event will be for laptops only (no I'm not expecting anything for the Mac Pro or Mini :( )

Yeah, Finally Here. My first post Here in this great forum.

Going to buy my First mac and super excited.

any Idea on Pricing of these new Macs? (I am saving money keeping 2200$ figure).

A Ubuntu-based new Windows which would go with it (which is far-fetched but not entirely impossible, since they've been trying to integrate with Ubuntu recently).
MacOS's superiority is greatly due to the smart choice of having started with a Linux core.
Also, in my case, it's so, so much better to code on macOS than on Windows, for the same reasons.

I think Microsoft's issue isn't necessarily with hardware, on the contrary. It's on Software. Windows is awful, its stability is awful, its UX is awful, everything about it is bad. It's a driver for a gaming station, basically.

Almost sure that if you got Apple Care they'll gonna fix it. Or Rambo Care. :D

You're in luck – dog **** doesn't have windows on it! I have a dog, so I know.

Only a bunch of happy people waiting for the happiest thursday in their life! And a serban-grandma under Apple's NDA.
