I agree completely. USB-C is gonna be 'fun' for newcomers. Especially those who love to use dongles, docks, hubs, etc.

:(

Right. every time I want to use a USB item (as I own zero USB-C stuff (do they make them?), it's "Where is that nasty dongle?".

I wonder after Thursday's announcement if stores like Best Buy will reduce the price of all current Macbook Pro's?

Hmmm, I wonder if this supports the rumor/thinking that there will be no new iMac's (or new Mac Mini or Mac Pro)?

And then we have this "hallo again" event.... for only 3 new MacBooks?

My MacBook Pro Story:
  • April 2011 - Bought my 15" MacBook Pro with 4gb RAM and a 500gb drive. Upgraded the RAM to 8gb and the drive to an overpriced 256GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD immediately. (Somehow that drive is still running).
  • November 2013 - Battery replaced under warranty due to early performance issues.
  • October 2014 - Mainboard Replaced due to GPU failure. Eventually got a refund for all but like 14 cents of it (no clue why the disparity).
  • April 2015 - Replaced DVD drive with 1tb hard drive.
  • April 2016 - Purchased 3rd party battery from iFixIt. Performance is basically horrible. only get about 45 minutes of runtime from full charge.
  • The feet on the bottom are wearing off.
  • The screws need re-tightening every couple weeks.
  • The A, S, C, Command, and Shift keys are wearing off.
  • The palm-rest has pitting in the aluminum (a moshi palm-rest stopped that, but now the moshi palm rest is starting to wear down).
My laptop still feels powerful, but I know I'll benefit from a faster CPU, a battery that works, and a retina screen. I'm a buyer on day-one.

Does Best Buy usually get the new devices on the first day too?

I doubt it. Seems like something that could easily be leaked before the event. If they usually get items on release day then my fear is that the announcement is this Thursday but the release is not as we would of heard/seen something from a BestBuy leak. At this point in time it's likely a Thursday announcement/release, with availability only via Apple and eventual availability via other retailers two weeks from then.

AW Nike+ release dates: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/10/24/launch-countries-apple-watch-nike/

It's unlikely Apple will take down the stores two times for the watch and MacBook (and AirPods). I think these are the same times that the stores will update with new MBPs.

Edit: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/10/24/eurasian-mac-listing/ :eek::eek::eek:

They don't need to take the site down to add new items. They usually take the site down to prevent orders on items that will be removed. The new AW and AirPods would be items they'd just 'flip on' to be bought.

Now that I read some of you guys' stories, is the battery life not that great then after a while?

If all ports are USB-C only, they could at least do this:

Mag Safe-like adapter was mentioned in the latest leak, I hope it's something similar.

Mine's perfectly fine, going into 4th year now.

In fact I haven't had a single issue with this Macbook Pro (13" though)

Certainly looks like it...they better be the most magical products ever

I'm buying no matter what, so I might as well buy into all the hype and marketing stunts they will throw at us at the event, LOL!

It will probably make it easier to spend the kind of money the new MBP 15" with dGPU gonna cost, LOL. I will just have to switch the brain off a couple of hours on Thursday. Yes, that will do it!

I've got a 2012 rMBP and after about 850 cycles I'm at 70% health and can get about an hour of battery life doing mundane tasks (web browsing and email). Apple promised 80% health at 1000 cycles in 5 years, so yeah, I'm not too thrilled with my battery.

With 70% of health you get only 1 hour? Shouldn't you get 70% of your original stock battery duration?

An hour? That's really bad. My 2013 rMBP still makes about at least 4 hours of video, 5 or more hours of other mundane stuff as you said.

WAT? You get 1 hour of battery life for a 4 year old product? I thought these are supposed to last for a long time!!

Very similar experience. Also rocking a 2011 MBP which runs well, but has had so many issues and the exterior is so worn.

The screws loosen every other week (I even lost one, and now I've just placed tape under them to avoid losing them), it's very scratched, one of the feet came off but I glued it back on, lots of chips to the aluminum (especially where the palm rest is), and obviously all the logic board problems and replaced battery.

I can't wait to get my hands on a new one.

Exactly. But I don't. The 70% stat I got from coconut battery and istat corroborates with the 5813mAH full charge capacity (out of the original 8460mAH) that System Information is reporting. If I drop brightness down really low and turn off wifi I can squeeze out 2 hours. But at the end of the day I'm heading towards the 1k cycles within the 5 years that Apple advertises and am going to end up at 65% or less of capacity. No where near the 80% they stated.
