But an update in March would mean that there wouldn't be any Polaris GPU's in it right?

Surely apple could pull some strings and get it a little bit earlier. Guys are apple strict with the education store thing because I'm thinking about buying it online off the education store however I'm not doing any studies so how will that work? also I'm from Australia if that effects anything. Thanks! :D

If intel is going to "give more information" about the skull canyon on 14-18 March... I guess the skull canyon won't be released at least until 18 March, probably later.

Since this will be the top tier intel device with Skylake-H GT4e it should be the first device with Skylake-H GT4e available in the market, don't you think so?

But maybe Apple hold the iphone event until April like last rumor from a chinese company said, and maybe then both 13 and 15 will be announced.

it's basically a free discount. I'm from Aus too. JB Hi Fi periodically have 10% off Mac sales, and that saves a little more than the education discount. if you want to push it even further, officework should be able to price match that and drop it by 5%.

And lets not forget this year and next year Apple will use dGPU from Nvidia..so if we will have a BTO with a dGPU into the 15" MBP what you think will be?

No Serban, that is not true.
Apple has a very difficult relationship with nvidia at the moment and there current models are not much faster than the intel iris pro 580. Apple has to look at the TDP and there is no model, that grants a big leap compared to the iris pro 580 and is power saving and fits into a notebook.

Furthermore Apples Software also use OpenCL, an technology standard that Nvidia dont want to support due to it's own technology CUDA. Adobe is also gonna redesign its software to support openCL much better. So in the future, Nvidias CUDA technology is going to be obsolete.
I am sure that Apple will unveil the redesigned Macbook Pros in March with generally availability in April 2016.

so why apple used to have NVIDIA?
i am telling you, from two to two years Apple is changing the dGPU manufacture
[doublepost=1452172954][/doublepost]that pascal i don't know if its only for desktop gpu? they have already dGPU?

Yes i know that Apple changed to AMD every 2nd year but you forgot something:
Apple wants to push the OpenCL Standard. iMovie, Final Cut and the whole Apple Software are using the technology. Nvidia dont support OpenCL really well because of its own standard CUDA.

The pascal architecture isnt that good. The Graphics Cards that most likly fits into the Macbook Pro is the Geforce GT950M and that almost the same performance as the Intel Iris Pro 580. So why should they built in the 950M? The GTX 960M is a bit better than the Iris Pro but its not a very big jump.

The only thing could be the AMD Polaris GPU architecture. It has a very good OpenCL support, is very fast, has a very good power efficiency.

The problem in the past was the lack of a good AMD GPU that has a good performance and power efficiency. Nvidia was able to offer it to Apple so they really had no choice for there Pro-Models and must choose Nvidia.

yes if HD580 is on par with 950M no excuse to put a 950M. But 950M is pascal?
i thought pascal is 1000 series

Oh sry,

950 is Maxwell, not Pascal.. That's my fault!

But after searching, the Pascal GPU's will start with the Desktop Versions and the Mobile-Versions will launch in late Q3 and Q4. So for the redesign, the Pascal GPU is out of discussion.

you are right...but i hope for a redesign MBP, with the technologies of the future and old ones to be removed
i hope for the new usb-c (compatible with TB3) and they can remove the sd card, usb and even the hdmi

In my case i hope, they will make the MBP redesign as thin as the old USB port allows and only replace the TB2 ports with the new USB-C Ports. Furthermore i hope they will use Liquid Metal instead of the Aluminium Unibody.

The HP spectre was actually shown physically in its final form, so even though they might not have the Iris pro chips yet they have gone ahead with the final design, this could mean apple has already gone ahead with the new redesign (if that is what they want) and they are literally just waiting for the new chips to put in, should be a very quick launch once they get their hands on the new chips.

I am completely lost among:
Skylake
Kaby Lake
Canyon Lake?
Other Lakes That I Am Missing?
Skull Canyon?
Iris Pro?
Core M?
Core U?
More that I am forgetting right now?

Is there a post/thread/website where I could find an explanation of what all these things are and which one should I lust after? ;)

Point me to anyone except here or on Reddit that claims MBP+Polaris is true.
Why? I said some Polaris GPUs might be released in March. I didn't say they'd definitely be in Macbook Pros. That said, it seems logical that Apple would use the latest GPU architecture for their GPU choice.

Yeah, there's a good website for it: www.google.com

No, you said that "some sources have claimed":

What sources?
http://wccftech.com/amd-polaris/

http://www.pcper.com/reviews/Graphi...hnologies-Group-Previews-Polaris-Architecture

[UPDATE : 2016 January 5, 10:43 AM ET] The first graphics card belonging to the brand new 14nm Polaris family is reportedly planned to launch within as little as 2 months. This new graphics card is going to be the smallest in the family with major focus on mobile platforms and power efficiency. More powerful graphics cards of the Polaris family are set to debut around mid 2016.

Those sources, which were posted earlier in the thread.

Since then, apparently the reporter has clarified his comment.

Thank you for your very useful advice that has enlightened me and cleared all my doubts!
He's not wrong though, either learn from the thread or look it up. People don't wanna write essays when it's not necessary, don't be lazy.

I'm having a hard time understanding why people don't think these new macs will be announced in March. Obviously only Apple knows for sure but to me it looks like a March launch is more likely than anything else. Apple is rumored to be holding a March event anyway (for Apple Watch 2 and possibly iPad Air 3). Why not use that same event to launch new Macs rather than having a separate event just for Macs?

As far as I understand (correct me if I'm wrong) the chips that would be suitable for the 13" are already available. At this point we are just waiting for the 15" chips. If that's the case, Apple can announce and show both models and have the 13" be available immediately while the 15" would become available around April. A small gap between the announcement and actual availability wouldn't hurt too much (after all they do the same thing with iPhones every year). Announcing them at the June event is also a possibility but it seems like Apple likes to use the June event to concentrate on software, not hardware.

Also, the longer Apple waits, the more their competitors get ahead.
