We could see an event in march announcing the redesign.
Then making the 13" inch available straight away and announcing a time frame for the 15" to come out.

Apple doesn't typically announce a product update well before it's released; that would kill sales of the current model (per the Osborne effect). It's a different story if it's a brand new product category, like the Apple Watch or retina MB. This makes a hypothetical scenario of a March 15" MBP announcement with sales beginning in June very improbable.

Also, barring some huge delay in chip availability (which doesn't appear likely, as OSX7 pointed out), Apple is highly unlikely to release a totally redesigned 13" MBP before a redesigned 15" model. Early adopters are very price insensitive, so Apple will almost certainly make sure the first fully redesigned MBPs available are not the cheapest ones. Because of this, at the very least, it's doubtful the 15" model will be released LATER than the 13" one. For historical perspective, with the rMBP release, the 15" model came out 6/11/12, while the 13" wasn't released until 10/23/12.

Please Tim, please release the new 13" soon. My early 2011 model feels really dated by now, so hoping for a March release.
If it makes you feel any better im on a 2010 mbp lol

13 inch MBP was updated a few months before the 15 inch last year, why cant it be the same this year?

Also we dont even know for sure if there will be a redesign yet

rMbp Skylake available for purchase in June, Kabylake available (only with Gt2, i know..) on september. Sounds like a joke , nice work Intel.

We're not sure, but Apple not upgrading the rMBP with Broadwell is making me think they're are actually redesigning them.
Also, marketing: I can already see the Apple claim for redesigned rMBP
"they are 40% faster than our previous generation! except that our previous generation was based on a 3 years CPU but who cares?!"

skull canyon news got me feelin like

Do you mean the Blade Stealth? Because its specced lower than an rMBP in virtually every category.

The Razer Blade QhD+ has a slightly higher resolution, and a better graphics card of course, but the SSD and CPU are still thrashed by the Macbook Pro.

Don't forget the bezels they're huge compared to the rMBP.

So is March totally out of the question now? I sent back a skylake xps 13 because I hated the track pad and I told myself to wait for the new mbp... but I'm so impatient!

That's about the NUC not the CPU itself. A lenovo announced in november with Iris Pro 580 is launching in Late January. They are discussing the NUC at GDC.

Where have you read that about the lenovo T460p? The news I found only say "Skylake-h" or Skylake quad core, nothing about iris pro 580 or GT4e iGPU. And they should, since it's an important feature...

I can't exactly remember what that infographic was but Lenovo did actually put it in clear writing that the top option would be in Q1 2016 with iris pro 580 lol

Do you guys think the new Skylake 13" could have 256GB standard? I bought a 13" current rMBP a few days ago and I'm thinking of returning it and waiting. Paid extra for 256GB and now thinking of waiting to see if the standard model will have 256 standard at the same or lower price, of course the other new features would be nice too. I don't really need a new laptop right now since I have a desktop but it is convenient for working on the go because my old laptop just died.

Theoretically, this should be the case as the price of ssd is decreasing. However, this is Apple we're talking about. I doubt they will be generous with storage on the base model, especially when much of the competition is still using 128gb.

They have already made 256gb the standard for the Macbook so I don't see any reason why they wouldn't do the same for the Macbook Pro. Of course Apple could get greedy and use 128 as the base again but it just doesn't go as far as it used to. Sense the rMBP originally launched 4 years ago we've seen HD content end up everywhere, the rise of 4K content, games using higher quality textures and a rise in audio quality from digital music. All of that stuff requires more space. 128 just won't cut it anymore. Neither will 16gb for iPhones and iPads.

Right now I'm using a late 2013 13" rMBP and it works surprisingly well for all of the hard task I put it through (3D modeling and rendering, app development, video and photo editing) but the one thing that really holds me back is the small 128gb storage. Sure I could get a USB drive for more storage but I really don't want to have to lug that around everywhere I go. Extra power and a better integrated GPU are both very nice but the thing I'm looking forward to the most is extra space.

Note I said "totally redesigned" MBP on purpose. If Apple just releases a Skylake spec bump (which is admittedly possible), then sure, the 13" could easily come out first. A spec bump isn't going to motivate early adopters though, which was my point. If Apple releases a product that will motivate early adopters, it will most likely make sure it's an expensive version.

That's true, but realistically speaking, the increased storage is reflected in the higher price of the base rMB model. Apple might make 256gb the standard for the pro, but I really doubt they will keep the price intact.

It's been 304 days since the 13 inch was updated (longest gap ever). I need to buy asap so I'm hoping for a spec bump this month before a summer re-design. Are the necessary processors/graphics for the 13 inch out yet?

All right so based on what we heard earlier and the ars article posted by OSX7, we can confirm that a new SKL-H (BGA) 45w chip suitable for the MBP is in the pipeline, right? This is huge, intel can wait for the gaming forum to talk about their NUC but theres no reason the chips can't be released silently especially since updated skylake skus were released in december (silently). Everything's all there, TB3, Iris Pro etc....so its really any day now.

The Skull Canyon NUC provides the most concrete timeline for the availability of the Skylake part for the 15", since both the NUC and the 15" MBP would be powered by a 45W Iris Pro 580 GT4e Skylake. So far, the rumors on wccftech were close, but provided the misleading suggestion that the NUC would have 28W parts. At 45W, the Skylake for the NUC is just what would go into the 15" MBP as well. Now the 13" MBP Skylake is out, and the NUC is due for release in Q1 2016 according to Intel, so that's the same timeline within which Apple should have access to the chips it needs for the 15" as well.

As a result, Apple should still have the chips it needs for a MBP refresh by March.
