This one and perhaps the PTSD one as the rest of the forum has started to leak here. I don't want to explain concepts like why current Kaby Lake processors are inferior to the Skylake processors in the new MBP to the uninitiated.
They closed down my PTSD one. So depressed now!!! I wanna have a chat with who is in charge!!!!

Yes, but don't want current Kaby Lake, we want the 45W ones!

Why does everybody think that the keyboard has to be the exact same keyboard as in the MB? Even if it looks the same, the mechanism could be different. Just have a look at the existing Apple keyboards. My cMBP keyboard feels completely different than the MacBook Air's, and than the rMBP, even if they look the same and all have the scissor technique.

You're all just flaming and raging. This is kind of annoying.

I'm planning to purchase my new MacBook Pro with the Family and Friends discount.

Will it be available to order at the discounted rate immediately? 10% off from what my friend tells me.

I have some questions and ponderings I hope that will be answered during the keynote.

-How will the magic toolbar behave in bootcamped windows.
-How useful will touchid really be. On a phone I can't type a password with numbers faster than touchid. But on my computer I can pretty much type out a password in a second or two without raising my hands. With touchid I would have to look down and move my hand twice.
-Still don't know if I'm going to like dongles or the price thereof.
-I'm hoping the butterfly keyboard will have more travel than the macbook.
-The magic toolbar should at least have some gorilla glass right? I normally put a protector on anything that can scratch easily (like an iphone), but I guess the tool bar won't be needing it.
-I'm hoping the prices will remain reasonable. But if the macbook with 512gb and 8gb of ram already is 1800€, I am fearing for a higher price for the MBP 512gb/16gb ram. I can't go higher than 1800, especially if I still need to buy a plethora of dongles.
-I'm sure the current 15 inch macbook pro people can answer this, but how well do those top facing speakers hold dirt? I kinda dislike a tiny mesh of holes that face upward. I often need to wipe dust and crumbles and dandruff off of my laptop and with top facing mesh speakers, I think they would get clogged quickly, or mess up the inside of the laptop.

looks like there is no place for us to meet after the event.. is that even possible?! it's a large forum at least we still can discuss together and share our thoughts of our new MBPs.. I feel like the moderators don't want us to meet after this :D

anyway before that happen just wanted to thank everybody for the time we spent together here. It was nice to meet you all guys.

One positive thing about the Butterfly Mechanism Keyboard is that it may leave more room for a decent cooling of the CPU and dGPU since they are soooo obsessed with thin. I would assume that this is version two of the Butterfly Mechanism Keyboard with a bit more travel since this is a Pro laptop after all.

I remain on a positive note about this.

Apple makes custom GPUs for their phone. They seem to do ok.

How about a custom GPU in a big sleek box that can talk to the MBP?

1. Introduce the idea that their custom GPUs are effective
2. Wean the MBP from the manufacturing schedule of the GPU companies
3. Save money by doing things in-house
4. Gain market share in fields with demanding GPU needs

But for now, just the sleek industrial cube please

I'm pretty unconvinced. For one thing, if Apple allows use of the Pencil on a trackpad, it's a tacit acknowledgement of the usefulness of having touch functionality on a laptop - something they do not offer. While I would LOVE to have a touch-screen enabled MacOS, the fact that they do not have this, I believe means their contention is that something like Windows 10 isn't better.

I mean can you imagine the news stories with Apples kludgy implementation, whereby someone has to draw on a tiny trackpad, vs Microsoft's implementation where you can draw directly onto a screen that's actually displaying the thing you're drawing. Of course I could be wrong.
You could argue that multi-touch functionality, that appeared on the touch screen first, was also an acknowledgement of the usefulness of having touch functionality on a laptop, but Apple felt it was fine to implement it on the trackpad rather than the screen itself. As a result we have much better trackpads even if macOS is not touch optimised.

Pen/Pencil/Stylus support is not directly connected to the touch screen functionality either. I've been navigating macOS with a Wacom pen for years now. It has nothing to do with the screen or OS optimisation. It's just an another input device – the one more optimal for some tasks than it is for the others.

I find that touchpad is best for web browsing, photos and general navigation. The mouse is best at more precise aiming and drag and drop. A pen is unbeatable where fluid lines and pressure levels are involved. You literally can't replicate it with any other input device. So yeah, it definitely would be convenient to have this extra option if Apple could offer it.

On the other hand, making the current screen touch-enabled would be rather useless. Drawing on a vertical screen with a keyboard under your elbow would be very awkward. They'd have to turn MBP into a transformer first. And it still would not be optimal, because you still need a keyboard for switching between tools, navigating the interface, changing brush sizes, blending mode settings etc.

I don't expect US prices to go higher. If they do, it'll be a first generation thing. Apple isn't likely to add in tertiary features if it means a significant price increase. They would lose more 15" sales than they would gain.

We have people in this thread who could apparently have supercomputers which don't cut the mustard for their needs and then we have the people who can't see the point of anything new because they would never use it even if they have no idea how it will be used yet. If you don't like it, don't buy it just stop whinging about a product that doesn't fit your completely fantastical ideal that inevitably wouldn't be what everyone else wants.
this.
lots of complainers

This would actually be cool. Something designed like the Mac mini, connected via tb3 to the Mac, with ethernet port, usb-a, hdmi and displayport.

With a dedicated fan and a gpu inside. It could be molded into whatever size apple deemed fit. something smaller than a mac mini could possibly fit a 1080.

32GB RAM + 620GB SSD storage in base model confirmed!

I would guess that if a non-macOS would boot; either the magic bar will just show the original f1-f12 or FN + number (and - and +) would be f1-f12...

Does it look like the FN-key is still there? What would be a possible function for the key if there is no function row anymore?

I never typed on an Butterfly Keyboard yet. I'm going to buy one and give it a try.
It won't be a bad thing. ;) Stay positive.

But does it look like a Butterfly Mechansim keyboard to you guys from the leaks ?
