Guys remember the MacAuthority.org article saying that Matte Black is coming to the MacBook Pro, I think those pictures are all fake because the picture of the leaked (from 10.12.1 Sierra) MacBook Pro with the square touch i.d. space, they don't show that square in that picture on MacAuthority.org

I always thought that was considered an artistic interpretation, not a legitimate leak. Was there ever a suggestion is was the real deal?

Everything is relative. I type thousands and thousands of words per day. If the keyboard sucks, then that would be very bad for me. It's not like "oh well the MBP is 10 inches and costs $20k but that's alright because I have a roof over my head." You have to compare the laptop features to the laptop, not your overall life or something.

What do you do where you write "thousands and thousands" of words a day? I'm a novelist myself, and for a 100k word novel I usually write about 200k words from first draft through final edits. Add blog posts and social media, plus ads and book jackets, and we're talking an average of only 1k per day over a year. Sure some days you might write 4-5k in a sitting, but those days are extremely rare. I can't see writing anything of value at that rate on a daily basis, at least in novel writing.

I highly doubt it man. Mac authority is also claiming the redesigned macbook pros will have 4g connectivity.

Approximate dimensions through an overlay of the keyboards (assuming the keyboard dimensions are the same as those of the rMB).

1,000 words is only about 3 pages double spaced, so I don't think it's that crazy. I just meant that it's not the end of the world if the keyboard sucks. I'll try it out and try to get used to it. If I do, great. If not, I'll return it and get something else.

Is anyone else planning to trade in their current MacBook at the Apple store? Looks like my late 2013 13" gets me $350 off the new model. I'm sure I could get a little more selling it privately but it sure is nice to be able to swap it out as I'm getting the new one.

damn I would buy it off of you at the Apple Store for $400 cash. those go for around 700-800 on Craigslist easy.

Well I certainly write more during heavy sessions, but over the course of a year 1K EVERY DAY is a good average.

I should say I'm cautious about the new keyboard too. But I've never had good experiences with laptop keyboards anyway. They're functional, but never ideal. If I can average flawless 20WPM on a laptop that's a good keyboard, whereas I can crank out 50WPM (faster than I can think, TBH) on my Enermax keyboard.

I'd love a matte black option. I personally wouldn't mind if it discolours a bit around the trackpad etc (which apparently has always been while Apple hasn't done it yet) - that tradeoff is worth it for me personally.

I just assumed that it was claiming it was real. But no I don't think they said it was real. Although they never said it wasn't real.

Does anyone know or have a well educated guess as to what processors will be in the 15" models. My main need for processor power is to generate 100s (sometimes 1000s) of 1:1 previews in LR for 50MP 5DSR files as fast as I can. I currently have the original 2012 15" rMBP 2.7 i7 and the most recent 5kiMac with 4Ghz i7. I'm wondering how close the new rMBP processors will come to the current top end iMac.

Looking at GeekBench scores it looks like the current 2015 rMBP is about half way between my 2012 and the 2015 iMac. How much improvement is expected from the 2015 top end rMBP to the new Skylake top end chip?

Thanks for any and all comments..

I'm with ya man. I shoot with a Canon 5dsR and the Canon 1D X Mark II, so I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm hoping for a lightning fast MacBook Pro too.

As a side-note, if you haven't done so already, you should try Photo Mechanic for culling photos. I'm serious about this: it will save you tons of time, as in many, many hours over the course of a year. Yes, it costs $150, but it will speed up your workflow faster than any processor will. I can't recommend it enough.

Back to the MBP, I can hardly wait to see what Apple brings to us on Thursday!

So tired of this
'you don't even know how it works yet'
'you don't need a physical esc key'
'Apple knows more than you about design'
'we can judge after it's actually out'

whatever line of logic.

It's confirmed. We know how it works. It is just a ****ing gimmick on a keyboard that will hurt your neck each time you need to press esc or any other function keys. What is bad is bad.

Why compromise usability when they could've just not increase the size of the already large trackpad and have enough vertical space to put that gimmick bar without removing existing functionality?

Questionable design choices. I feel like they're making these changes for the sake of making changes to appear charismatic in the field. Like removing the 3.5 mm jack. You can be charismatic in the field without gimping your products if you're truly innovative, like Apple has done so far until ~2012.

Hmmm, that's too bad that your so close-minded about something you haven't even seen yet. Even worse that you are so grumpy. Oh well, we'll enjoy the new features while you stick with the old design or perhaps you'll move on to a Windows machine.

Oh I'm not a novelist haha. I just type a lot. Excel modeling, emails, group chats, just everything combined adds up.

You could get a whole lot more from selling it privately. And that amount will likely be less once the redesigned models are announced.
[doublepost=1477448134][/doublepost]I think they should have both Space Gray and Black, they both look good on MacBooks.

I'm liking what I see so far. I think at first the OLED bar will seem gimmicky, but it'll start to provide a lot of interesting functionality. When Touch ID came out I didn't think it was anything special. The function keys are not an important aspect in programs that I use so this doesn't bother me. Not necessarily big on the butterfly keys, but i'm sure i'll get used to it. The only thing I really want the most is a space grey/matte black Macbook Pro. Excited for Thursday!

With the new trackpad, is it not possible they would just add extra multitouch controls for things like volume? I've never used the F keys on a Mac, only remember F1 being of any use on Windows... I'm guessing there will be some simple solution to have it laid out like whatever you want.

I welcome it. The top row is such a useless set of keys these days for the vast majority of people. It's really just the volume keys that are used and it'd be nice to have custom keys set there app dependant.
I use the brightness keys, play and volume keys daily... and f12

Apple revenue is flat lining

Its one CAPTIVE audience finally gets a decent update to the product line after years of waiting

Apple needs to show growth .....

I fear for the new MacBook prices ( specially non-USA prices )

Hey you guys, I just talked to apple care about this http://www.ebay.com/itm/122192633811?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT and they said that as long as it's not water damaged, cracked screen, dropped or iCloud Locked that Apple will repair it even if I don't have the receipt. Do you guys think I should bid? thanks.
I feel like you have earned enough through eBay and AppleCare to afford a new maxed out rMBP already :D I'd go with what your gut tells you

My gut tells me no, but my wallet says yes.
Where's that Steve Jobs quote where he tells you to trust your gut...

Found it.
“You have to trust in something - your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever. This approach has never let me down, and it has made all the difference in my life.”

Steve has spoken. Don't buy it.
