I'm not here to convince anyone of anything. Too old for that. Just want to share some stuff to interested people *several* of my acquantances have (who work at different places). Practically I know just about as much as you do because they can't share too much. Also, I don't want to risk their position by verifying or whatever. Just reread my first post and have fun. I'll chime in again when there's something that can help people make better consumer choices.

Cheers

Best comment so far.

The historical precedent is very important to look at.
I disagree. You guys are looking at only one factor - timeline.
What you are ignoring is the more critical element. That is the availability of the appropriate chip - which is a far better indicator.
Given that Intel's release dates have been getting later, any computer maker that depend on Intel's chip will likely have their computer release delayed accordingly.

The use of the asterisks around several reminds me about someone else who also claimed to have a *source*.

I think NJPT got it right.

Apple could've updated the 15" with Broadwell, but they didn't (chips available since June 2015). Which means they were probably confident they could stay within their timeline of 'near-annual' update releases by skipping straight to Skylake.

I'd bet that Intel would've told Apple fairly early on what their expected release schedule was.

June is a remote possibly, I guess. But September? I don't think so.

September doesn't make any sense, most students would have already started classes and purchased their notebooks by then. March or June are most likely, and the new chips should be available by then. I think it is the cpu chips that will drive and determine the next update, not so much the discreet graphics.

lol@everyone saying June. I mean, look my guess is as good as anyone elses but the absolute longest time for a rMBP refresh was 280 days, which for us will be February 23. Does anyone really seriously think Apple is going to wait 379 days until, say, June 1st to release a new MBP? Now some are saying SEPTEMBER? Apple has never waited an entire year to update the MBP even if its a minor spec bump.

APPLE WOULD NEVER!!! They always think of us!! I mean, it's not like they've done things like kept us at 16 GB base storage for 4+ years!

Oh wait...

Apple did it before at the Spring Forward 2015 event. Redesigned MacBooks right along side the hot new Apple Watch. The products you list are already established....an entire keynote about a thinner AW, a thinner iPad Air and a smaller iPhone can easily be rounded out by announcement of a thinner rMBP (or more powerful, or whatever). WWDC can be reserved for for Mac Pro and iMac updates.

The smaller iPhone is a new device technically. The AW 2 is not just going to be a thinner AW, and the iPad Air 3 will probably have a few upgrades to it along the way too. WWDC for the Mac Pro / iMac? Two devices obviously less popular than the MBP?

It'll happen in June. I'm positive. Anything could happen, sure - but June seems to be a safer bet than March at this point.

Ok. Here's what I did:

- Returned rMBP to Apple Store for
refund
- went to Best Buy had them
price match BHPHOTO 210
discount :)
- now have 45 days to return, lets
See if something is announced
By then!!

SMH... I need to stop reading this thread.

Ok so I've been reading this thread for months now and I feel like you have to think like a corporation at this point. I think its gonna come out in April, after all the other stuff in March announcements settles down.

(I *just made an account now haha;))

Bestbuy has a 45 day return policy? I may buy one in February then and if nothing comes in March/April I'll keep it

I wish that was an option for me as well, but in sweden buying from a third party retailer really isn't an option due to steep pricing. I think I'll just get one now and be done with it since the transition will be huge enough for me, coming from a four year old zenbook!

I guess I'll just have to figure out how to spec it then...

Yes 45 days for Elite plus members (spend 1500 in the year ?... I purchased a tv and washer/dryer this year.

I'm guessing if you purchase the rMBP that purchase price should qualify you!

In regards to the 13" rMBP, since the i5-6267u launched a while ago, could it be that Apple has already built the final product and is just waiting to release it alongside the 15"?

I'd assume the 13" will be able to ship upon release, yes.

Another question, is the iris pro 580 completed (thinking about the skull canyon revealing) and the holdup being due to large scale manufacturing problems, or is it still being developed?

I can safely say apple won't bring out the new rMBP 13" & 15" would be a huge mistake because that's the iPhone month however they could maybe do a silent update for the new cpus (kaby lake) but that's a maybe I wouldn't be holding my breath.

So you're saying March is more likely?

Let's please keep this thread for actual rumors and stop with the release date guessing, every time I click on this thread I have high hopes of seeing something substantial and nearly every time it's a guy saying 'naaah bro it's gonna be march cuz this and that' promptly followed by a similar reply for June.

Us wanting a date doesn't change when Apple is going to release it so pretty please stop with the endless debates about the release date without any substantial rumors to back it up.

I'm sat waiting to get a maxed out 13''. I'm really hoping for a silent update because I need it sooner rather than later. I don't really want to keep using my Macbook Air for Location Recording because it already doesn't really like 96kHz in...

And the half speed thunderbolt is REALLY noticeable for me with Thunderbolt Storage.

I don't think they will separate the redesigned rMBP's annoncument from the mac mini, mac pro, macbook and 5k display. It should be one event and I think it's june.

What do you guys think about adding a cellular connection to rMBP/rMB I think it would be super handy :p

Interesting question!
It would be a cool feature but you would have to pay a premium for the high data plan as you use ALOT more data on a computer than a phone (data storage/transfer, downloads, on top of streaming, emails etc. etc.)

It'd be great to have the feature on the road, but in cities (at least in The Netherlands) there's public wifi practically anywhere nowadays.

And like domsodidavid said, you can use your phone as a hotspot :)

Android/iOS as hotspot. Adding in cellular would be a waste of space and resources. And wi-fi is almost everywhere in my country as well. Only time I use Lte/3g is when in my car, other then that, my phone is always on free and fast wi-fi :)
