The point I was trying to make is that their claim is unjustified. The claim last year was not about graphics either, they just said 2x as fast. They later clarified that they were talking about specific compute performance that utilized the GPU and CPU (CUDA basically). They're saying the same thing this year. All that aside, they are not jamming a 45 watt i7 into that tablet. The thermal envelope of the tablet portion hasn't changed, all the improvements went into the keyboard base to house the power hungry Geforce 965m. It CAN'T house a 45 watt chip, the thermal envelope just wouldn't allow it. Unless Microsoft has changed the laws of thermodynamics.

But they put a second fan in there! lol

I get what you're saying, I'm just dumbfounded by the asking price ... for a dual core!? $900 bump in price can't be just for extra battery and the 965m.

I'm hoping and praying a ton of people jump on the Microsoft bandwagon after their event, somewhat guarantees I'll get my pick of the configs before stock runs out :D#sorrynotsorry

You're in the wrong thread if you think anyone is jumping ship now.

I said it a while ago, but I'm sure it's well burried in this thread by now: I think the devices they released today are great, but the prices are insane. They make Apple look like a bargain computer shop. Look at the Surface Studio, $4200 for an i7 with a 2TB HDD! Not even an SSD... After seeing that price, or the $100 for the freakin dial, I'm just not surprised they're asking $2800 for a 16GB + dual core setup.

If MS did put a 45W quad-core in the surface book. Wouldn't they have said so?
wouldnt they be bragging about it? and posted quadcore on there specs site?

They are hybrid right? Similar to what Apple do with the iMac?

Someone out there is going to be the very last person to buy the "newest and best" MacBook Pro 2015 tomorrow. Will they realise their mistake? Will they even care if they do? And will they understand that they can return it? I hope so.

It's actually a 2TB SSD, but yeah, pricing is astronomical.

I thought they're referencing intel's rapid hybrid technology, but some articles are stating hard drive. If they're including a spinning drive in a $4k machine, we're all screwed. Apple will without a doubt one-up their pricing and we can then expect starting price of $1800 for a 13" MBP and $2500 for a 15".

Such a powerful video. That music is chilling. Here's hoping Apple's video tomorrow instills a similar emotion.

Just Wow!! As much as I want to hate it, I just can't. The only thing holding it back is the price. You see Apple, THIS is what happens when you ignore your Mac lineup for so long. A competitor comes in and makes the hardware YOU should have made. I never though I'd see the day when Microsoft makes something that seems more Apple than Apple. If there was such thing as an iMac Pro, this would be it.

As an Apple fan, I really hope their event tomorrow is big enough to make Microsofts event fade into memory as if it never happened.

Gonna have to wait till im done work to order one :(
Hope I still have the ability to preorder my config later in the day...

On the pricing, lets pretend for a minute that Apple doesn't have a phobia of graphics cards and offered an option of discrete graphics on the 13 inch MacBook Pro, lets say they they build in support for the Apple Pencil into the display and ship the Pencil with the notebook. Would Apple not be in the same ballpark price wise?

I configured the current MacBook Pro on Apples US Store i7, 16 gb RAM, 256 Gb SSD. Throw in the Pencil and you're looking at just short of $2300. Not too much of a stretch to imagine a $500 premium on that for digital pen functionality, discrete graphics and a modern processor.

Happened to a girl in my grad program back when Retina first came out. She bought a cMBP the day before. I flat out told her to go get it exchanged for a better one for free or at the very least, get an older model discount (yes, Apple did this in the past and may still do it present, not sure). She didn't do it. :/ The average consumer doesn't care because their Macbook isn't suddenly obsolete.

Surfacebook Gen 2....

Skylake Dual Core i7 ,GTX 965M, 16gb ram, 512gb ssd = $2799 ????

13 inch screen with 3000x2000 resolution, 16 hour battery.

Such a rip off.

Macbook pro 15 with dGPU will be at least 2x more powerful.

The only downside is slightly less pixels and 4~5 hour less battery life.

I'm gonna stick with the base 15 rmbp.

Nice try microsoft

No offense to the average consumer, but them not caring is just sad.

Lol I agree, the average customer doesn't care. However that just borders stupidity to keep it. At least even return it and buy a new cMBP for the price cut on the cMBP, since she's had it for one day only.

Notice how the Surface Studio's presentation film shows some very familiar powder of colors?

Very similar to this one:

What if Apple knew something upfront about the Microsoft presentation and they did that on purpose, to mock them?

I'll say it again, it's plain sad. I know someone who is a consumer and they bought a Tablet and the thing was outdated and more expensive than the one I told her to buy and she just said no it's ok I am content. It's good to be content in life don't get me wrong but it's also good to save money for the cheaper and better item sometimes.

I doubt they'll be out tomorrow. You can still order custom MBP's without any slip in shipping. This also leads me to believe they will continue to sell the older model at the same price while increasing the price of the new models. Hope I'm wrong, I was hoping to bring this bad boy into work next week.

what are you talking about? for the past 2 weeks whenever I wanted to upgrade the 13in retina to 16gb it always slipped in shipping.
