I love you all and have loved this thread for some time now, is that good enough? I'll miss it when it's gone. I would go to sleep now until the keynote but I know I would be waking up at 6am (4 hours before the event) and not be able to sleep.
Such a powerful video. That music is chilling. Here's hoping Apple's video tomorrow instills a similar emotion.
What the hell. OK, so it's two in the morning here in France and I can't sleep.
I was listening to relaxing music when suddenly the formerly pitch-black opposite end of my room was bathed in a crisp, white light. Confused, I looked at the spotlight on the ceiling and remembered I had left my 2010 MacBook Air right under it. Indeed, I got up from bed and confirmed that the light source was the Apple logo.
What were you trying to tell me, dear life companion? Were you saying goodbye? Are you jealous of the future? Or did you want me to understand that I'll be stuck with you for longer than I thought?
In all seriousness, has this ever happened to any of you? The lid had been perfectly closed for at least two hours. The whole thing felt more spiritual than you'd think...
Oh, and it turned itself off without me doing anything after about 20 seconds.
How does it charge, with a magsafe 2 adapter? How's the reaction to that puck thing going? If Apple came out with an input puck, people would be all over them with negativity. "What's the use-case for that?" "Steve Jobs would never have approved it." "I don't like the way it charges so it's total carp." Etc.
I don't see a use for it personally, but I give any company props for trying something new especially if it works for most people. Apple is held to a higher, unrealistic standard.
We really should use this while it is still up.Do we have a chat to accompany the live stream tomorrow? Or will we be using this?
Guys, is it currently possible to place an order online and pick up the device at the Apple store? And do y'all think they will stock them in store for tomorrow ?
No, all signs point to it being a dual core. There's no way they jumped from a 15w to a 45w cpu in that form factor. They also make no mention of it being quad core, yet on the Surface Studio page they have "Quad-core i7" plastered all over.No. The new Surface Book has a quad core i7.
To be fair, thanks to Apple and their reluctance to provide us with timely upgrades, the thread has gone on far too long already. A massive proportion of the posts are off-topic, chatty or simply frivolous. As soon as the new products are released and the news discussion articles are posted it will be the correct time to put it to bed.
I know this is going to surprise a lot of you but there is a lot more to MacRumors than this lumbering thread.

That's how long it's been since the last refresh. I had no idea I'd be entering into the longest refresh period in recent MBP history when I started waiting for my first Mac. Of course, this laptop has been sought after by many here since this thread was created exactly three years ago. I posted in this thread for the first time on page 28 on July 31, 2015, my fourth post as a MacRumors member. I wasn't even a big Apple fan back then; this thread made me an Apple fan. Apple events are now something I look forward to as much as a holiday or my birthday.
I've learned so much about processors, SSDs, RAM, GPUs, all through this thread. I had no idea who Gurman or Gruber were or why the Christian Times were no good. I had no idea what integrated graphics or Thunderbolt 3 were and I had no idea what Skylake even meant. Everyone here has been so helpful and supportive and this thread has truly been one of the most unique events I've been a part of. I haven't felt a sense of community like this in a long time and I haven't had this much fun online in a long time. Thanks to the mods for allowing all of the stupid dank memes that I've posted. I'm still proud of my crappy mock-ups that I had to make in Word because I was at work.
It might seem stupid that we've all been so obsessed over a piece of metal. I don't exactly know what made this thread so enticing that I felt the need to check it thirty times a day and scour the web for any trace of a rumor. I've felt very connected to the heart of Apple over the past year and a half, especially after reading both Steve Jobs biographies and the Jony Ive one. And I think the MBP is a huge testament to the power and heart of Apple. This'll be my first Mac and my second Apple product other than my iPhone and I couldn't be more excited to replace this 2010 Dell XPS.
Just remember to go into tomorrow with an open mind. We have high expectations and in a lot of ways Apple will meet those expectations. But it won't be the perfect machine and will take some getting used to. Stay positive.
So no matter what you use the laptop for, don't use it for work. Work is for those who aren't in love with what they do. Use it to change the world. Here's one more for the history books:

According to Panay, engineers and gamers wanted more horsepower out of the laptop, and so the new Surface Book’s base configuration uses a quad-core Intel Core i7 chip instead of last year’s Core i5.
Man, the worst thing is my students at work who buy the computer and trust in Apple. I was talking to a student about the new Macbooks coming out this month and asked if he was upgrading because I saw he had a 2012 cMBP. He looked both betrayed and confused because this was a computer that was two years old in his mind. If they start any of the new machines at 128/4 or even 128/8, they will be the new cMBP in my mind.Pretty sure that cMBP is done for. Probably has single digit sales this year. IF they have any left you'll probably find it in the clearance section. Though it'll still be over-priced. Maybe they'll knock off 10% lol. MAYBE!
They are literally the only site that is. Everyone else is saying dual, for instance: http://www.tomshardware.com/news/microsoft-surface-book-i7-skylake,32930.htmlWired are saying its a Quad Core i7.

Obviously nobody knows 100% except MS at this point, but dual-core would be the best educated guess.
You've watched Apple's presentations right? They do the same thing Microsoft does. Those "2x, 3x, 4x" numbers that they give...ya, cleaver marketing. They made the EXACT same claim about last years surface book, being 2x as fast as the Macbook pro. It's gotta be quad. How else they getting twice the performance of the 13" MBP.

They give those stats to graphics, which do double (the integrated ones anyway). MS is stating CPU is 2x, which even going from haswell to skylake won't give.

Wow that looks impressive, it's a measure of how far Apple has fallen that I'm sure we all expect the new MBP or iMac probably won't match that experience
It's also task dependent. Obviously a dGPU is going to cream an iGPU at any task that requires rendering of some sort. Heck, even statistical operations are likely better on a Surface thanks to the CUDA cores. You've watched Apple's presentations right?
