Wow, thanks @Dydegu for putting the dates. I can't believe it, but what everyone said around the time if what I think was WWDC was true. The rMBPs are coming out in celebration of this thread. Almost exactly the 2 yr anniversary. I think they might have done it today if MS hadn't stolen the date!

@OllyW , quick question, Why must the thread close. I just want to know the reason. Why can't the thread stay open until the MBPs arrive at people's homes. The thread is called "Waiting for Skylake MBP thread". That means until we get our units, we are still waiting. I honestly just want an honest answer for why it has to close at the keynote. I'm not trying to say you're doing anything wrong by closing it, I just require a little bit of context in regards to why.

Thank you to any moderator who answers my honest question.

I doubt they'll be out tomorrow. You can still order custom MBP's without any slip in shipping. This also leads me to believe they will continue to sell the older model at the same price while increasing the price of the new models. Hope I'm wrong, I was hoping to bring this bad boy into work next week.

Apple shares are down due to slower iphone sales. If Apple is smart they will price the macbook pros competitively, unless of course the supply is quite limited then they will price it quite high.

That's how long it's been since the last refresh. I had no idea I'd be entering into the longest refresh period in recent MBP history when I started waiting for my first Mac. Of course, this laptop has been sought after by many here since this thread was created exactly three years ago. I posted in this thread for the first time on page 28 on July 31, 2015, my fourth post as a MacRumors member. I wasn't even a big Apple fan back then; this thread made me an Apple fan. Apple events are now something I look forward to as much as a holiday or my birthday.

I've learned so much about processors, SSDs, RAM, GPUs, all through this thread. I had no idea who Gurman or Gruber were or why the Christian Times were no good. I had no idea what integrated graphics or Thunderbolt 3 were and I had no idea what Skylake even meant. Everyone here has been so helpful and supportive and this thread has truly been one of the most unique events I've been a part of. I haven't felt a sense of community like this in a long time and I haven't had this much fun online in a long time. Thanks to the mods for allowing all of the stupid dank memes that I've posted. I'm still proud of my crappy mock-ups that I had to make in Word because I was at work.

It might seem stupid that we've all been so obsessed over a piece of metal. I don't exactly know what made this thread so enticing that I felt the need to check it thirty times a day and scour the web for any trace of a rumor. I've felt very connected to the heart of Apple over the past year and a half, especially after reading both Steve Jobs biographies and the Jony Ive one. And I think the MBP is a huge testament to the power and heart of Apple. This'll be my first Mac and my second Apple product other than my iPhone and I couldn't be more excited to replace this 2010 Dell XPS.

Just remember to go into tomorrow with an open mind. We have high expectations and in a lot of ways Apple will meet those expectations. But it won't be the perfect machine and will take some getting used to. Stay positive.

So no matter what you use the laptop for, don't use it for work. Work is for those who aren't in love with what they do. Use it to change the world. Here's one more for the history books:

What's scary is what Apple does after these are released. Did they do enough sales (and based on their finance report, they did) for them to consider pushing refresh cycles to a 1.5 year basis just to milk the lower cost of production on each model release?

Thinking bigger picture after all this time and especially after today's Microsoft announcements, I am still left speechless at Apple's refusal to do anything to the Mac line with a ten foot pole. One side comment years ago about "no touch on desktops, ever, your hand gets tired" and from then on, a lasting promise to never innovate the category again, seemingly.

Well, guess what? Artists have been painting on upright easels for ages, a lot of Cintiq users do the same with a stand. Microsoft of all companies is making the prime example of a hinge that can go from iMac to large creative touch surface instantly. Where's Apple? Doing the least they possibly can not only with specs but with design, advances in software, and largely advancement with ideas. Most importantly, why am I moving an object around on my desk to correspond my motions to a little pointer on screen - in 2016? I just feel like there's a faster, more inventive way to edit video, for example, but no one is touching it.

I'm going to buy the rMBP as I've been waiting for something with more power, but will it even have noticeably more power? Am I going to shave more than 3 seconds off of a 4K export/render from my 2013 model? It really doesn't seem like it, considering Intel has all but stopped moving forward and we're seemingly hopeless on a great dGPU - in which case am I literally going to be buying this thing to bask in a new color, have a harder time driving monitors, dumping from SD cards (daily), and connecting to the hundreds of USB 3.0 and TB2 hard drives we have, and touching my finger to it to pay money for stuff all with an extremely marginal if noticeable at all performance boost?

It sucks that Windows sucks so much to use creatively. Sorry to be a debbie downer before they're even unveiled, but I can't help but think this way.

I agree, just hope we can order tomorrow to get in early November.

To be fair, thanks to Apple and their reluctance to provide us with timely upgrades, the thread has gone on far too long already. A massive proportion of the posts are off-topic, chatty or simply frivolous. As soon as the new products are released and the news discussion articles are posted it will be the correct time to put it to bed.

Ok So @OllyW where should we all go after you close it, why did they close my "Waiting for Skylake MBP PTSD group therapy" thread? That one was gonna be great. Is there a reason posted? Also when does this one close?
I know this is going to surprise a lot of you but there is a lot more to MacRumors than this lumbering thread.

As soon as the new MacBook Pros have been released there will be a number of news discussion articles to post in. There will be threads about orders, unboxing threads, what configuration are you getting threads. So basically you will have dozens of other threads to post in. And if you want to wait even longer there's already a sticky Waiting For Kaby Lake MBP thread going.

Don't think you can start a new clone thread with a slightly different name either, we won't be having that.

That would be a bit ridiculous tbh.

So guys let me get this straight...

A $800 Dell XPS, and potentially a new MacBook air for around the same price.

has more CPU power than a $3,200 Surface Book?

No. The new Surface Book has a quad core i7.

I concur. But so is selling a 2012 laptop with a 500GB 5400 RPM and 4GB of RAM for $1099.

Edit: Forgot the beautiful screen too, lol.

Yeah they need to kill that relic.

Pretty sure that cMBP is done for. Probably has single digit sales this year. IF they have any left you'll probably find it in the clearance section. Though it'll still be over-priced. Maybe they'll knock off 10% lol. MAYBE!
