No i mean that Mark Gurman from 9to5mac has sources that Apple plans to take place an Event at Moscone center in the week of the 14th March. And mostly, the Keynote happens on a Tuesday. This leads to the 15th of march 2016 were a reservation was taken.... The GDC does not take place inside the Moscone Center.. So the Keynote from Apple could be happen paralell to the GDC.

Where are you getting that Mark Gurman said the event will be at Moscone Center? The location of the event is not described in anything I've read from him. He only describes the date.

Also, what makes you say that the GDC does not take place inside the Moscone Center? The GDC has Moscone North, South, and West all reserved from March 14-18. Not only is it taking place inside there, it's taking up the entire facility.

Apple is not beholden to use the Moscone Center for its media events. It has its own on-campus facility which it has used in the past.

I'm just going to throw this out there:

If USB-C is terrible option for replacing Magsafe because it's not magnetic and we all love our Magsafe connectors for the innovative thinking, do you think it's possible that Apple has a more advanced Smart Connector from the iPad Pro with 5 connectors they could replace the current Magsafe with? This would allow for a profile of 7mm which is ridiculously thin! They wouldn't have to mill the aluminium for a connector just have a magnetic alignment of the connector. This would be my preferred power option, especially as the current one picks up lint and the smart connector is flush.

I'd be a a bit disappointed if Apple uses USB-C for power on their laptops after all this time with such a convenient connector to use.
You are welcome....

i waited first for broadwell-- never came- now skylake. If one looks at the release dates for high end laptop PCs iwth skylake chips- it's June.

I had hoped for jan/feb/march but it seems unlikely we see anything big until WWDC. i.e JUNE

But what is the guarantee that it will come out in June with the way Apple is going on delaying the upgrade of its 15' rMBP it could mean anything !! It could even mean end of this year, or even next year

Maybe Apple is holding off on the update, to wait for Polaris or Pascal.
It would be a shame if the new design didn't come with the new dGPU's. If they don't include Polaris or Pascal GPU's, that would cause the rMBP to be outdated within a few months after release once more.

Apple is set to release new MacBook models within the coming months, claims reliable KGI Securities Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

Following on from recent news suggesting Macs are one of the only PC makers on an upwards trajectory, Kuo also says that Apple’s MacBooks have had “solid growth” among enterprise customers in recent months.

Yet the title says they are expected in June :/. Looking at the bright side, if it is in June, the new 15" rMBP would be a perfect birthday gift for me since June 12 is always within the WWDC time period (With the last redesigned rMacbook Pro being introduced in June 11, 2012). :p

Most sources are citing "During 1H2016", which means the release could happen anytime between now and June :)

This new piece of news brings about no actual information. We've been pretty sure that the laptop line was getting a refresh sometime in the near future (which is all this new article is telling us)

While it's necessarily no new information it's always good to get confirmation from Ming-Chi Kuo.

Ming-Chi Kuo....enough said.

I might be too new to this to fully appreciate the importance of Ming-Chi Kuo's report - is he/she a 100%-hit-rate, word-is-gospel source?
This guy has been around a long time and his hit rate is somewhere in the ballpark of 95%. He has some sick sources in Apple's Chinese supply chain.

The only positive thing about a June update is that it is more likely to be a more significant upgrade than the March one. There will also be more time to rigorously test the machine etc.

I had to laugh about this, more time to rigorously test comment. I heard this some time ago on another product release and things did go wrong. Heard this comment even earlier about another apple product and somethings went wrong there as well. I take this with a grain of salt about more time translates into a better product. Sorry, just had to comment.

Haha. Sounds like you've suffered through this with first-hand experience ^_^.

To be fair though, we are holding Apple to an extremely high (and sometimes unreasonable) standard. Nobody else even gets close in terms of build quality and general robustness.

Yep, I was just throwing it out there, I have no clue.

Hello from my first post... I'm from spain, and my english isn't so good.

I have any questions for the experts of the forum.

I just buy a rMBP 15" I7 2.5GHz, 16g, dGPU, etc, you nkow....

In the comparatives from 2015 the chips of rMBP 15 are the more faster, technologies being 2013...

Core i7-4790 rMBP 15" 2.8GHz
Core i7-4870HQ rMBP 15" 2.5GHz
Core i7-4770HQ rMBP 15" 2,2 GHz
Core i7-5700HQ broadwell
Core i7-4720HQ haswell
Core i7-6700HQ skylake is the 6th
Core i7-4710HQ haswell
Core i7-4712HQ haswell

can this justify not rMBP be updated?

The iGPU and dGPU also they give very good numbers...

MBP is today one of the best laptops of the moment? XPS 15" have slower chips, for example...

and finally.
really going to be a big leap Skylake, or you are going to notice more in the autonomy and the thinness of the machines, but not in power?

the real question is:
Current rMBP old will be very shortly or may have a long life.

To after the jump or not to Skylake ...

Think?

Ponga esto en el Google Translate; espero que tenga sentido!

I'll do my best with what you're asking.

It sounds like you just bought a higher end 15" rMBP, and want to know if it'll last you a while, or if waiting for Skylake would have been more beneficial. This is a pretty common question, and it always comes down to your need. If you needed a machine and the current one does what you need it to do, then you made the right choice.

No one really knows when the new rMBPs will be out, so if couldn't wait 2-4 months, you also made the right choice. A lot of people have bought the rMBP over the past six months or so and from what I've read, they are all happy!

How would it? Skylake integrated graphics are very good & the 15" has always had discreet options.

Yeah but, we pay extra for the quality. And we have to play BS games like this waiting patiently for Skylake TB3 Notebooks or get one with a 2 year old proc.

To be fair, the chances of another Haswell (or even Broadwell) release at this point in time are extremely small, seeing as how March is the very earliest they will release.

Thats what I meant, that we could buy the current Haswell or sit and wait for Skylake. And I understand that the chips are not available yet but when they are in March then I hope we aren't kept in the dark for another three months. The chips for the 13" are available but look we still haven't heard anything. Its depressing.

If they tried to release Broadwell I'd probably just get an iMac or something. Maybe Fall of 2015 that would've been acceptable but not now.

Hell, this wait is getting more and more unbearable.
I still don't get why Apple skipped Broadwell and decided to wait for almost an year (if not even more) for a decent upgrade. Ok, it's money, it's marketing, but it's really annoying.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure what's coming next.
Maybe Apple will simply make a speed-bump with Skylake for the 13" MBP in March, and wait the WWDC to show the redesign of the 15", hopefully with a Polaris dGPU.
