I'm between this and two other machines for my next mobile platform. The Skylake rMBP or whenever the Thinkpad X1 Carbon or Yoga become fully configurable online, I could make a much more informed buying decision, I'm likely to wait for March either way.

Yes they are all very different machines, but I won't be stepping down to lower than 14, I have a lot more needs from a laptop today than I do my own desktop, so I'd be buying all the adapter/dock options I could to make it as easy as possible to bring that work home; the WiGig dock from Lenovo in the X1 series seems really compelling.

So true. Apple would get so much more traffic to their site of they would slipstream updates instead of these overblown who cares events.

I would check their site multiple times per day. Now, the way it is, I never check their site until after an event. No reason to.

Dude who the hell wants to check the website everyday? That would suck, I agree the big events are useless but I would prefer some sort of announcement.

I would just buy a computer if I needed one rather than wait and see. The changes are so small every time, it almost makes no difference to your average consumer anyway.

I'm of a similar mind, but I think the lack of USB-C on the X1s is a deal-breaker for me. Looking for a future-proof purchase, and few notebooks stand up over time like a macbook pro.

Just checked and going from 512GB to 1TB is 600€! Apple is definetly on drugs when they set the prices, you can buy 1TB SSD on amazon for around 150 - 250€

2TB option will be 1500€ or 2000€

yes but you still cant compare the ssd that apple put on macbook with read and write over 1000mbs with that from amazon
Apple always put the best ssd into the macs

Didn't know about the speed, honestly I would prefer capacity over speed (standard 500mb/s is fine to get a speed boost over HDD at least in windows).

Your point is valid, but even high-end SSDs (Samsung 850 series for instance) are still a good 15-20% cheaper than what Apple charges.

for windows you have many OEM laptops or desktop pc with cheaper ssd

I know, but I want to try OS X, that's why I'm on this thread.

What I mean is that hardware is the same, specially when Apple doesn't built their own hardware, I think they use Samsung for the m-pcie ssd. So the performance boost from hdd to a standard ssd should be similar in OS X and Windows (my experience)... unless OS X is worse optimiced and that's why they need such high speed ssd.

SSD prices are far lower now then they ever have been, there's literally zero reason to charge that much for an upgrade.
The latest Samsung 950 Pro 512GB is selling for $330 retail, and it is faster than the current rMBP storage.

LOL, well, maybe not everyday, but once in awhile would be fun. I check this website everyday, multiple times :)

But these large fanfare events are becoming rather a non starter. wait wait wait - BIG EVENT - wonder why I bothered waiting.

Is the resale on the rMBPs good enough to make it worth buying one now and selling it right before/when the Skylake updates come along?

Remember you lose the 10% final value fee on eBay.

I'm selling a 15" with 512gb flash and the ATI video card on there at the moment. I got it used, like new for $2000 with AppleCare. Now that it's used further, I think the best I could sell it for quickly would be $1800, so minus eBay fees that's $1640, so I've lost $360 from buying the latest model used in pristine condition and selling it 2 months later in near pristine condition.

Your mileage may vary, but it's food for thought.

What's rubbish? The over selling part or the revenue part? If it's the over selling part ....Apple sells a au$29 lightning cable....enough said.
Rubbish that 75% of Apple's income comes from the sale of Accessories.
