Hello from my first post... I'm from spain, and my english isn't so good.

I have any questions for the experts of the forum.

I just buy a rMBP 15" I7 2.5GHz, 16g, dGPU, etc, you nkow....

In the comparatives from 2015 the chips of rMBP 15 are the more faster, technologies being 2013...

Core i7-4790 rMBP 15" 2.8GHz
Core i7-4870HQ rMBP 15" 2.5GHz
Core i7-4770HQ rMBP 15" 2,2 GHz
Core i7-5700HQ broadwell
Core i7-4720HQ haswell
Core i7-6700HQ skylake is the 6th
Core i7-4710HQ haswell
Core i7-4712HQ haswell

can this justify not rMBP be updated?

The iGPU and dGPU also they give very good numbers...

MBP is today one of the best laptops of the moment? XPS 15" have slower chips, for example...

and finally.
really going to be a big leap Skylake, or you are going to notice more in the autonomy and the thinness of the machines, but not in power?

the real question is:
Current rMBP old will be very shortly or may have a long life.

To after the jump or not to Skylake ...

Think?

Apple includes PCIe based SSDs. The Samsung 850 is SATA based. No SATA SSD can match the PCIe drives Apple includes.

You're right - I wasn't sure if it was the 850 or the 950, and only did my research later. I was of course referring to the 950 Pro series, which however you slice it, are still a good deal cheaper than what Apple offers.

Comparison for kicks:

Base model 13" rMBP (in France) 1449€ (128GB SSD)
Mid-range 13" rMBP (only difference being 256GB SSD instead of 128): 1649€
Price difference: 200€. That's just over the price of an off-the-shelf 256GB Samsung 950 Pro.

By that reasoning, either the 128GB is worth nothing, or Apple is making you pay for the price of the whole 256GB SSD instead of the price difference between the 128 and 256GB versions.

The comparison between the mid-range and high-end 13" rMBPs is less straightforward, because there are proc updates that I can't be bothered to do the math on - but still it's a 350€ difference, whereas the price delta between 256GB and 512GB PCIe SSDs is ~135€.

I couldn't find any pricing for a 1TB (except $1000 Apple-sourced ones), but Apple makes you shell out an extra 600€ for the upgrade from 512GB to 1TB. That's just bananas.

Remember you lose the 10% final value fee on eBay.

I'm selling a 15" with 512gb flash and the ATI video card on there at the moment. I got it used, like new for $2000 with AppleCare. Now that it's used further, I think the best I could sell it for quickly would be $1800, so minus eBay fees that's $1640, so I've lost $360 from buying the latest model used in pristine condition and selling it 2 months later in near pristine condition.

Your mileage may vary, but it's food for thought.

Rubbish that 75% of Apple's income comes from the sale of Accessories.

Thanks for the info! I'm not a huge fan of the whole idea of buying and re-selling short-term. I'm not in this for the profit, I would just like to get the laptop I feel I want, and to enjoy it as much as I can for a few years.

I agree, it's price gouging, but it's industry practice. Apple's brand name allows them to take it to a higher degree without much repercussions.

"Soon" is a so ambiguous term...
i waited first for broadwell-- never came- now skylake. If one looks at the release dates for high end laptop PCs iwth skylake chips- it's June.

I had hoped for jan/feb/march but it seems unlikely we see anything big until WWDC. i.e JUNE

I'm with you on that. Most of manufacturers are still using Haswell for their professional laptops. Also, we can see Dell with its XPS 15 giving significally lower results on geekbench than the mid-2015-rMBP for example...and it has Skylake, but of course, a lower model than the one we expect from Apple

"potential upgrade to hit the market in 1H16."

Little big news about MacBooks?

So not saying which model or models, just there is the "potential" for an upgrade in the next 5 months.

Basically "potentially new stuff, in next 5 months".

True because most other top 15inch laptops (including xps 15) use a 6700HQ and mbpr 15 cpu use the most high end mobile processor.

That's exactly why I wrote little big news:
Like months ago already, we still have no informations about the upcoming Macs.
Just this vague rumor from 9to5, the fact that Iris 580 is going to be released somewhere in the 1H2016 and the rumor of the last week from feng.com
Still, better than nothing...

I hope Apple make a new version of the 13" MacBook Pro with user upgradeable hard drive and RAM some day.

Most likely no, they soldiered their ssd and ram since 2014 i believe

I guess apple does a great job keeping their secrets

15" MBPr can theoretically be released any time after Intel GDC (Skull Canyon Announce) so if we hear of an event that takes place after March 14-18 then its very possible that we will at least see it announced. Moscone Center is empty from 21 to the end of march (Except for a small event on the 22, Womens business conference). Can't really decipher the schedule for Yerba Buena Center though, not as easily accessible.

I can't wait for the summer!!! At last, warm weather :) and finally an updated rMBP.

Apple better pull some big magic trick out of their sleeve since they have been ignoring the entire Mac line for years.

The Keynote will take place at the 15th of March this year.. The Moscone Center is reserved to a company at the beginning of this week and the timespan seems, that they need a bit of a preperation.

I can imagine that Apple and Intel made an Agreement that Intel release the Intel Iris Pro on Monday the 14th March and Apple will then release the redesigned Macbook Pro Retina one day later on Tuesday.

It's the Game Developers Conference from March 14-18th 2016 and defintely not an Apple event.

No i mean that Mark Gurman from 9to5mac has sources that Apple plans to take place an Event at Moscone center in the week of the 14th March. And mostly, the Keynote happens on a Tuesday. This leads to the 15th of march 2016 were a reservation was taken.... The GDC does not take place inside the Moscone Center.. So the Keynote from Apple could be happen paralell to the GDC.

The 2015 macbook pros were announced in the march event so hopefully yeah

I'm just going to throw this out there:

If USB-C is terrible option for replacing Magsafe because it's not magnetic and we all love our Magsafe connectors for the innovative thinking, do you think it's possible that Apple has a more advanced Smart Connector from the iPad Pro with 5 connectors they could replace the current Magsafe with? This would allow for a profile of 7mm which is ridiculously thin! They wouldn't have to mill the aluminium for a connector just have a magnetic alignment of the connector. This would be my preferred power option, especially as the current one picks up lint and the smart connector is flush.

I'd be a a bit disappointed if Apple uses USB-C for power on their laptops after all this time with such a convenient connector to use.
