How would it? Skylake integrated graphics are very good & the 15" has always had discreet options.

The skylake integrated graphics will be phenomenal & a big improvement on the current iGPU. But I was talking about the discrete GPU, which at the moment is the Radeon M370X. Both Polaris and Pascal will be a big improvement on the current dGPU architectures, bringing many benefits. So hopefully they will be available on time so they can be included in the next rMBP. Otherwise, like I said, the rMBP will be quickly outdated again just within a few months (GPU wise).

I've never been a big AMD fan, so I'd like to see Apple revert back to NVIDIA for dGPU's. But I totally understand where you are coming from.

Hell, this wait is getting more and more unbearable.
I still don't get why Apple skipped Broadwell and decided to wait for almost an year (if not even more) for a decent upgrade. Ok, it's money, it's marketing, but it's really annoying.

Anyway, I'm trying to figure what's coming next.
Maybe Apple will simply make a speed-bump with Skylake for the 13" MBP in March, and wait the WWDC to show the redesign of the 15", hopefully with a Polaris dGPU.

Seriously praying you're right! I need a new laptop by March latest, so I'm going to hold off till then. I really hope I'll be buying a new Skylake rMBP 13" rather an end of cycle Broadwell one.

No dual core Iris?
that means mbpr 13 wil get Core i5-6350HQ (6M cache, 4 Cores, 4 Threads, 2.30 GHz, 14nm) ?

The dual cores with Iris 550 are already out:
i5-6267U
i5-6287U
i7-6567U

Most obvious choices for the 13" rMBP.

The 6770HQ, 6870HQ, and 6970HQ with Iris Pro 580 are all obviously going to the 15" rMBP.

That 6770HQ is the deal for me. If only they fit it inside the mac mini too... what a extreme portable workstation it would be!

So lets say Apple sticks with two models, we should see the following configs? (just guessing):

Base : i7-6770HQ @ 2.60 GHz
Mid : i7-6870HQ 2.70 GHz
Customizable : i7-6970HQ 2.80 GHz

I have to deal with my final project for the degree and I'll be running risks if I wait until March, but damn, I don't want to buy a Mac now and have an old machine one month after.

I just have an iPad right now...

If you feel a new Mac will improve your project, I say go for it.

xeon apple macbook? wuuut
Xeons listed on the link are mobile parts with same 45W TDP as their i7 counterparts. But they will most likely also support ECC memory. And the E3-1575M v5 is obviously (considering the price) somehow excelling top i7 (I assume +200 MHz base, +200-400 MHz turbo boost).

I am really curious to see how Iris Pro 580 performs. I won't be surprised if it benches about the same as the r9 m375x.

The new polaris part for a MBP like notebook should be about the same a 970m from nvidia (almost triple the m375x in gaming, not sure how it would compare to m375x in compute). That's my hope anyway.

If the dGPU model comes with 1 TB SSD for similar price as current, that would be enough for me to buy.

With little benefit to most pro users.. Not sure what ecc is good for. Except when it comes to zfs and data integrity..

I must admit that I've been out of the loop regarding the performance of Intel's new Iris Pro graphics, how does the 580 compare to say the GT 750m found in the Late 2013 15" rMBPs?

Intel HD540 is on par with GT750M. And it is in 15W CPUs that are Macbook Air-class CPUs.
So HD 580 should be at least 50-60% faster than GT750M.

Well...

Hopefully I have free enough money in two months to cover the difference after I sell this rMBP for the newest edition. (Fully maxed out this time @ 1TB and max CPU :D)

I will play with predictions.

March: Not redesigned MBP, just updated, to latest hardware, and with USB-C and TB3.

13 inch, and 15 inch. No dGPU model on 15 inch, that will be later in the year.
13 inch will start at 1299$ with base CPU with 2.9 GHz with HD550, 8 GB of DDR4 2133 MHz and 256 GB of SSD.
15 inch: 1799$ 2.6 GHz, 16 GB of RAM DDR4 2133 MHz, and 256 GB of SSD.

Later in the year we will see new Macbook Pros, with new design, with same hardware, but 15 inch will have dGPU from AMD Polaris lineup.
13 and 15 inch will be offered alongside the new Macbook Pros for quite some time.
