Lets play a game. By what page in this thread do you think the 13" and 15" MBP will be announced? For 13" I think 245 and for the 15" 330..

Words don't dignify a response. But an Apple Pencil sketch does!

It's been done before, so it can happen now too. And even if Apple hadn't released in June, WWDC would be a perfect event to announce the "Pro" machines among the developer crowd at the event.
Yes, but waiting well over a year (15 months) for an upgrade has never been done before. Laptops have been released more frequently in the spring and fall with an avg of 250 days between releases. However it is uncharted territory with tech slowing down for laptops and desktops, so anything is possible. I just have my bets set on the spring with WWDC continuing to be a software/developer based event.

there will be no standalone TB3 port, because usb-c gen 2 already is compatible with it
So the MBP probably will remove usb and tb2 ports and use 2 or 3 usb-c ports+hdmi and maybe sd card

Even if there were TB3 eGPUs available in the near future, Apple sure as hell isn't going to support them in OS X. You'll probably need to BootCamp.
They already support it. https://bizon-tech.com/faq-egpu It's just that support is quite minimal. But considering all the issues with hybrid graphics both muxed and muxless on Linux and Windows this might not be the case of Apple limiting us as they often do but instead a case of a technology not yet given enough developer resources to shine as it is not that popular yet.

Still it should be noted that while USB interface with USB-C port look the same as Thunderbolt 3 interface with USB-C port they're not the same. Considering my limited knowledge I think you can connect USB device to Thunderbolt 3 but not vice-versa.

So strictly speaking I'd alter your phrase to be quite the opposite: there will be no standalone USB port, there will only be TB3 ports compatible with USB devices.

nope, usb-c is the mainstream port now, and intel made it compatbile with TB3, i mean the logic board can provide lets say speeds up to 20gb/s thanks to its usb-c -th3 technology
The IO will be usb-c

USB-C is the port, like the form-factor, pins all that stuff.
If there is USB 3.1 gen 2 interface behind this port, you get up to 10 Gbit/s performance and can only connect USB and DP devices, not TB devices.
If there is TB3 interface behind this port, you get up to 40 Gbit/s performance and can connect both USB and DP and TB devices.
TB3 interface is much more expensive to implement obviously.
P. S. Retina MacBook has USB 3.1 gen 1 (previously known as USB 3.0) interface behind its USB-C port if I'm not mistaken.

AFAIK neither CPU nor logic board provides TB3 in Skylake generation of chipsets and CPUs. You have to install dedicated Alpine Ridge controller. And there are only controllers for 1 or 2 ports.

If Apple decides to give us 4 TB3 interfaces they will have to install two 2-port controllers (which is quite pricey) and dedicate 8 PCIe lanes to them (Skylake CPU has 16 lanes total, SSD will get 4, dGPU will take 4 to 8 so moreover PCIe multiplexer might become necessary).

This will change in next generations, it will be included.

I dunno, "thank you for agreeing with me", I guess?

You keep repeating "USB-C", "USB-C". Retina MacBook has USB-C so what? It is a USB 3.1 gen 1 interface with USB-C port, it supports USB, DisplayPort and power but does not support Thunderbolt 3 and PCI Express.
It's not enough for the port to be USB-C. The interface behind this port has to be TB3 which can emulate USB 3.1 gen 2 and lower. The opposite is not true - no USB interface with USB-C port can emulate TB3 and lower.
"Behind" means in MacBook Pro, not in the device you're trying to connect.

LOL it was a joke considering the fast pace this thread was moving at. Shouldve made it clear.

Can't wait for the MBP though. Got an XPS 15 and had to return it because it had too many issues.

What was wrong with xps 15?

- Keyboard was very mushy
- Space bar had an issue where it wouldn't always register
- If I was playing a game, say rocket league and I scored, the screen would flicker. I'm guessing graphics power required was higher since there is an explosion when you score. The gt 960m was pretty good though for my purposes.
- Blue screen with Bad Pool Header. (Problem with RAM)
- Windows 10 still has a few issues that need to be worked out still

Windows 10 is a good OS but it feels unpolished next to OS X and it's still somewhat unstable; occasionally, something will not work for no apparent reason.

New MBP not supporting 5k display with thunderbolt3?
Where Is Apple's 5K Thunderbolt Display?
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/where-is-apples-5k-thunderbolt-display.1950779/

Hi, i just wondering about possibility of 2016 MBP supporting 5k display with a single thunderbolt3 cable.
The above article mentions that current DP1.2 which is supported by TB3 will not drive a 5k display with single cable.

However, the TB3 specification includes enough bandwidth to support of a single external 5K display at 60Hz.
Any possibility of apple releasing new MBP supporting a 5k display using TB3 as an interface rather than DP1.2 or HDMI implemented within TB3? or
Will 2016 MBP base model with new Skylake Iris Pro be capable of drive 5k resolution? any info?

yes, the new MBP will have only usb-c gen 2 like the Macbook but probably 2 or 3 ports+1 hdmi, so they can make it thinner and lighter

It will be able to drive a 5k monitor but not over a single cable as far as I understand. That's why it is very unlikely that Apple will release a new 5k Thunderbolt Display.

Only possibility would be if Apple integrated a dGPU in the new Thunderbolt Display. That would be the ideal solution.

Wow, $600 just for the external gpu, at about 70 fps. Can't you buy a full windoze desktop or laptop with similar graphics performance at the same price?

going back to the reason again. all laptops can't handle the heat of a full blown desktop gpu... can you remove the gpu from a very thick laptop like an alienware to make it thinner?

It's all good. I was just drawing that before and thought I'd try to scare you haha. Honestly, I've been eyeing up the XPS 15 as well but the reviews have been mixed.

My desktop wih Windows have been stable since version 7. Not really as polished as OS X. Windows 10 is the best version yet, and with the clean install there hasn't been a single issue except for having to plug in an out my Xbox One controller to register it after sleep and wake.
