Hey guys, random question here. In this upcoming redesign, do you think Apple will get rid of the glowing logo like what they did with the Macbook?

What redesign? It is pure rumour that there will be any redesign, so anything is conjecture, not just the apple logo on the back of the screen.

Depends how thin they want to make the display, I wouldn't rule it out.

How should we know ? We get these " do you think" all the time, and only Apple knows for goodness sakes. Ask them. This is MacRumors not MacGuesses

Guys do you have to be so hostile? He asked what we thought just give some opinions or don't reply to the guy. There is no need to be so mean.

Agreed.

Within the obscurity of the internet I find some questions kinda weird, but it's even weirder to see people reply to a message they have no interest in. This is indeed MacRumors, not MacAsses.

Couldn't agree more. We don't come here to get harassed for asking perfectly human questions, and wanting answer, even if it is based on the (hopefully) most qualified guesses. If you haven't got the slightest idea, maybe the question isn't something you should involve yourself in trying to answer.

It's a good chance those September mobile Skylake chips will be dual-core only. Which means that the 13 inch MacBook Pro could be released in the fall, but the 15 inch not until next winter (or early spring).
The September ones aren't vpro. There will be dual core CPUs in both the September and January release. Apple tend to use dual core vpro versions in the 13 inch and those are due in January 2016.

Wow I didn't expect such harsh responses. Maybe I should be more careful with my wording in the future. It's just that I don't want to pay premium for something that is highly speculated to be redesigned in the near future. Thank you to you guys who actually answered or backed me up. Great to see that nice people aren't extinct.

so do we know for 'sure' that suitable quad cores for 15" rMBP will be available in september or is it still speculation and most likely the update won't come this year?
I'm just debating whether or not to sell my 2012 15"rMBP now when its still under warranty and be few months without computer (don't need it now as iPad suffice for now cause I'm not freelancing at the moment).
If you guys think that the likelyhoood for Skylake is still this year (even if xmas) then I will sell it. If you think it will probably be Q1/Q2 2016 then I will just keep it cause I might have freelance work next year. Difficult decision :(

It's not do much if quad core chips are available as whether it's the ones with the Iris Pro that Apple use. They may come later.

According to the Skylake launch schedule leaked 1 month ago, it is near certain that suitable quad cores for a 15" MBP will not be available in September. The only i7 quad core H class processor coming in September is the i7-6700HQ, but it will likely only have Intel HD graphics (per its Haswell and Broadwell equivalents, the i7-4700HQ and i7-5700HQ respectively).

The i7-6820HQ and i7-6920HQ coming in October-November likely will have Iris Pro graphics. Whether or not they come with sufficient availability to update the 15" MBP in time for the holiday season is the question. Based off the fact that Apple released the 15" MBP on May 19 when appropriate Broadwell chips that could have been used in an update were released on June 2, my suspicion is that Apple secured enough supply from Intel to do a Skylake update by late October/early November. The other possibility is that Apple updated without Broadwell because it would not have sufficient availability of the Broadwell chips for the back to school shopping season. I find the former scenario somewhat more credible, but neither is unreasonable.

15 inch refresh probably q1 or q2 next year simply because i really don't see intel releasing the skylake H this year. if anything intel will probably release the U series which the 13inch uses and even then its a 50/50 that it will be released this year or the next, for the U series

I really hope that possibility becomes true.

The last 15" MBP update was so disappointing to me.

The only interesting thing about it was that no one predicted that the next update would not include either broadwell or skylake! I found that somewhat amusing. Then I went back to being disappointed.

The eternal wait continues...

Same for me, was actually expecting at least broadwell, all we got was "new" graphics, the ssd and the touchpad update, nothing really new, I really expected a lot more since they kept us waiting that long.

Second this. I also think it's much more likely that we see them in Q1 2016 though due to them having just refreshed last month. My guess is more Jan-Feb

How many here think and believe that Apple will release the 15" rMBP with Skylake chips and more improved iGPU this fall i.e. Sept-2015 ? making it late-2015 unit ? Apple has 3 season units as in Early, Mid and Late can the Skylake rMBP 15 inch be the Late 2015 Model ?

November 2015 at the earliest. And that's only if they get a shipment ahead of it's release. At that point, it legitimately makes sense to just release an Early 2016 Feb-March Skylake rMBP.

0% chance of it coming in September.

I wish they do it in September - 2015 when I am planning my purchase, but my mind over my heart says it looks like it will not happen before early 2016.

Just guessing but, I think we may see a 'Skylake is coming' announcement in the fall (Sep/Oct) but I doubt you'll be able to actually get your hands on one until the Nov./Dec. shopping season.

Apple historically has only released "late" in the year MBPs when they have been preceded by "early" models. "Mid" year models are usually the only release for that particular year. Since this year saw a Mid-2015 release, we probably shouldn't expect another until "early" 2015.

From your same article though: "Notebook versions of Skylake processors are planned for the fourth quarter of 2015"

And it doesn't say if those are the Iris Pro versions (suspect the dual core chips will come first), so I still think we are looking at a Q1 launch at the earliest. :)

So I think I'm just going to go ahead and get the current mbp. I've been struggling on for years with our old power Mac and 1st generation Intel mbp. While I might be able to hang on for a few more months, I don't think I can get to next year. There are some tasks that are now becoming so frustrating.

I can't see how game changing the next chip will be. Do CPUs need to get any faster? How important is thunderbolt 2? I'm going to run external storage daisychained to an audio interface and (maybe a projector). Pretty sure that will work fine with thunderbolt 1 let alone 3.

Appreciate some thoughts before I fork out £3,000.
