The anniversary comments are actually pretty on point. MacBook Pro (January 2006), MacBook (May 2006), and Mac Pro (August 2006) all turn ten this year.

A "Mac is Back" event / portion of an event commemorating these anniversaries and releasing new products wouldn't be completely out of the realm of possibility.

I'm growing more and more optimistic about getting something in March.

You take that back right now!
Shame!
Did you notice how heavy and thick the XPS is?

You're assuming the current bezels are the perfect balance in the trade-offs, they may have been the case back in 2012, that's not necessarily true now. You could have made the same argument for the non-retina MBPs or older iPads which had their bezels thinned down in newer versions without causing any problems.

I'm not arguing anything of the sort, and those iPads having their bezels thinned *does* have tradeoffs as we've said (you could fill it with more batteries) it's just not something you're particularly focused on.

Not sure why people are so bent on March...its about 2 weeks out with zero rumors or details popping up. At this point its almost a given that it WONT be March. My bets are still on WWDC, or a month or two before.

Just wanted to add my two cents about the Skylake XPS 15...

My brother and his wife have had zero issues since purchasing one. I have played around with it and have been tempted to buy for months now. Going by looks it's more attractive than the current rMBP and it's built well. I won't get into specs for obvious reasons. If we don't get new Mac's before the summer I will gladly purchase one.

Some of you act as if Mac's never have issues, I personally know people who had their screen literally peeling off within 8 months. Along with other various issues depending on the person. Every product will have issues, Apple included. I get this is a Mac/Apple forum, but the ass kissing is obnoxious.

Yep, every single Mac I've had ran into one issue or another (logic board, Superdrive, hard drive). It's all commodity hardware and parts fail. Even my current 2012 rMBP is having battery issues. I don't get 3 hours of battery life on it when Apple stated their batteries would give you 80% capacity after 1000 cycles (keynote when the first unibody, non-user replaceable batteries were introduced). I'm at 737 cycles and my battery is down to 72%. At this pace my battery will be just over 50% at the 1000 cycle mark.

It's sad when we're hoping for just a mention of Macs at what amounts to a re-releasing iPhone 4 with updated guts and Apple Watch bands event. The Mac deserves better then that! 10 year anniversary and we get watch bands. SMH!

It's true. The current design is so boring and tiresome. It's not ugly, it's just outdated.

Yeah, sure. I tend to use my pro machine for work, not flashing off with my latest gadget at Starbucks. Although I do enjoy a machine that is well built and with impeccable industrial design. But I don't really care for changing things up just for the cause of change. Refinements, sure. But the rMBP is a fine piece of machinery, I don't expect much to change with a redesign.

If I am paying $2k+ for a "fine piece of machinery" I expect that company to you know.. be creative. Outside making the machine slightly thinner and adding pixels to the screen the design has been exactly the same since the unibody was introduced.

I'm not an Apple sheep, if they want my money, they will have to impress me. If some of you go outside the Apple bubble you will see other companies are blowing Apple away with creativity. Apple was cool 5 years ago, now they're that middle aged guy who thinks he's cooler than he actually is.

I say all that as someone who has been waiting since 2011 for a good reason to buy another MBP.

Philistine!
It's beautiful and timeless.

If the Inquisition wasn't busy putting the Fluffy Cushions to the rabble rousers clamouring for touch screens I'd have them kicking down your door as I type.
I'd be careful about not expecting the Inquisition from now on, I hear the Comfy Chair is scheduled for their next deployment.

Because we don't get leaks everytime they refresh a Mac and because the appropriate chips are available so why wouldn't they. Why can't we have hope?

I just thought of something horrible..

:apple:Book..

Some b.s. with their line of processors or whatever. :/ We don't get Thunderbolt 3, or Iris Pro 580.. we get some weird mishmash computer thing that is, for all intents and purposes, no longer a "Mac" but runs OSX.

Nightmares...

This sh*t is on point, but shhh, they might actually use your idea...

I'd say the the rMBP has aged quite well.

To be honest, I'm not sure what the re-design lovers expect. Beyond maybe the Surface Book, I haven't seen anything creative outside the your so called "Apple Bubble". Even still, the Surface Book takes a lot of design cues from the current rMBP. Razor's Machines are literally just MacBooks with a black finish. The XPS only looks different from the carbon fiber and it's bezels, which don't wow me too much such since they had to compromise the bottom bezel and webcam placement. If the XPS 15 was unibody, it'd look exactly like a rMBP.

Heck, the 12" MB is just a thinner, retina Macbook Air in fancy colors. There's really only so much you can do to rectangular piece of aluminum.

The rMBP is still THEE best pro laptop by a long stretch! What's this 'mind blowing creativity' that other companies are releasing? Find me ANY quad-core laptop that has a better design. We know the guts of the current rev are outdated (hence this thread), but as far as the chassis, it's unrivaled. Pro users don't buy pro machines to show off. We buy it to get work done. My 2012 rMBP design rivals ANYTHING released in 2016!

Surface Book is a dual core machine which makes it a lot easier to design and engineer. The 15" rMBPs are all quad-cores. I'd rather they stick with quad-cores and keep the current design then hamper performance just so some hipster can sit at starbucks showing off their laptop.
