Macbooks need some new elegant color to choose from, like Space Gray or even darker (not rose/gold please)... The actual aluminum is becoming really boring, despite having aged quite well. There are much more important things to improve or focuss when making the new Macbooks rather than its color, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't make changes on it. If someone just wanna brag about his new colored machine, it's up to him, and if someone just want it for work, why complain about colours? Some people here complain like if a new color would diminish its functionalities! By my part, I'll keep getting my work done with the new MBP, and space gray won't prevent me from doing that, but also enjoying its aesthetics.

I doubt anyone here is against choice or doesn't enjoy aesthetics, it's just knowing Apple's way of doing things. The 12" Macbook shows Apple is willing to compromise everything about the device just for the sake of thinness. Sure, it colors look cool - but for a machine like the rMBP, we don't need Apple prioritizing a redesign and fancy colors over performance and thermal design. In a sense, Apple doing a redesign is going to compromise the functionality of the rMBP in some way, and the only one who comes out ahead is the hipster who wants to show off his brand new ultra thin throttling Gold rMBP at a coffee shop.

This is one philosophy where Dell has Apple beat, because they actually made a more powerful XPS while still doing a major redesign. We all know this isn't going to happen with Apple.

Agreed.... I like 'form' as much as the next person (in a perfect world gimme both!) but definitely not at the expense of 'function'.

I personally don't like the articles from Macworld.co.uk.
The last time I read one they were saying "MacBook Pro is expected to upgrade the GPU with a NVIDIA GTX 960M", and once again "MacBook Pro will probably come with NVIDIA GeForce 940M"

....yep

That's why I don't trust them so much.

Anyway, I'm still hopeful for Polaris as MBP dGPU in March. That news from Reddit sounds great.
If not, I would be enough satisfied with an eGPU.
Speaking of redesign, I won't really like a thinness laptop with thermal and performance problems.
As someone in this thread rightly pointed out, Apple has already eliminated the thicker parts of the laptop.
Think about it:
vents -> MacBook: they get rid of them because it CPU wattage doesn't need them.
DVD and Hard Disk -> MacBook Pro: all flash based
What else thick part can they eliminate/reduce?
The keyboard? Ports? The logic board?
We're still talking about millimeters.
The only part that right now would need a redesign is the screen.
If Apple would employ the new technologies of the MacBook's screen in the MBP I would be really satisfied, and that would really mean to make it thinner.

Ok, maybe if they miniaturize the logic board as they did with the MacBook, that would be another space-saving, but I'm afraid that would increase a lot the cost.

rMBP's design is perfect as current, apple shouldn't change it (specially considering the flaw is the MacBook 12) only review for a display size Change (as could be going to 16:9) or minor port redesign as switch from tb2 to tb3, also I'll vote for removing the sd card slot and instead add a an extra usb 3.1 or two usb-c (usb only).

Also I'll accept removing the backlit to the Apple (this saves power) it's actually useless a shiny Apple instead as on the MacBook 12 it's OK.

The logo is actually illuminated by the same light source as the screen. That said, I do agree that they should change it to the one on the rMB.

I also hope they include the exceptional speakers of the 12". The audio quality (not even considering the size) is just mind blowing.

The apple logo is lit because of the display. It doesn't use power.

Edit: Was beat to it.

Agreed on your first part. As for Dell, it's easy to re-design when you're bulky and made of plastic. I just don't see any improvements that Apple can make to the rMBP (outside of consolidating ports to TB3/USBC and shrinking display bezels). The actual frame/chassis of the rMBP is, in my opinion, absolute perfection.

What I would like to see improved about the top half, is that they solidify the back of the screen, where the glowing logo is. When you apply some light force on the metal casing around the logo the whole back just goes inwards too easily. I feel as if i were to sit on it or lean against it while standing, when closed, I would just demolish the entire screen.

The glowing logo is what makes rMBP special, and its doesn't affect battery life anyways.

I'm so glad someone else notice this!
Every time I clean the back of the screen, I fear to bend or even to crash it...

Dang, you guys wiping or scrubbin your laptops!? I use a soft/damp lint free cloth. It's aluminum, it shouldn't be moving at all, otherwise you're applying too much force for any laptop out there.

I am using the same amount of force as I would use when typing, or holding a cute baby. The backs of the rMBP's are just very, very flexible.

I am curious if the MacBooks have the same flexible backs or if it is a more solid piece.

I admit I've exaggerated it, but still if you try to push just a little bit with your finger in the area around the glowing apple, you can see how much it moves.
It's really weird.
Also, I have a unibody MBP, which I believe is worst than the retina.

Speaking of other things: why no one is excited about Polaris?!
I've read the AMA on Reddit, and while I didn't understand the most part of it, there a couple of things really interesting.
- AMD seriously back in the market of GPUs, instead NVIDIA looks really late.
- laptops with Polaris shortly coming
- eGPUs coming
- HDR screens probably comings in the 2H of 2016
- h265 codec supported

C'mon guys! Those are great news!
At least, those are the only positive news we have about incoming laptops!
Why seems no one care?!

Just curious, what would you guess is the % of people who use the webcam on the rMBP on a regular basis?

I ask because it seems the main (for some the only) change would be to shrink the bezel. Would the majority be in favor of shrinking the bezel to the point the webcam would need to be relocated? Are we talking just a slight slimming of the bezel that won't cause that? Obviously shrinking the bezel to nothing would help with overall size of the machine, but would most sacrifice the webcam for size/weight?

I am someone who rarely uses the webcam on the MBP due to FaceTime or other device, it wouldn't bother me much. However, I know some use their webcam quite a bit. I'm just curious if you think the majority feel the webcam isn't a priority.

WRONG, most interesting info there was HDR, to be honest. AMD will say more info about Polaris GPUs, soon.

Since apple will remove from all bto macbook the dgpu they can rearange the components and put an even better speaker than macbook thanks to their larfer chasis a bit lighter come in colours and if they put usb-c they also can slim it down a little
[doublepost=1457205795][/doublepost]i think we can do with usb-c all we already can with usb 3 right?

I am excited about it! I hope they make a high end model available with one! It seems like a fantastic and amazing upgrade and its appliances are HUGE *trumpvoice*.
If the dGPU model will be around the same price as the current model offering the dGPU, I think I might get it :)

But then again, I want a 1TB SSD and shelling out 600!!!!!! euros more for it is absolutely crazy on top of getting the dGPU. Tough choices.... But, I guess I have enough time to think about it ;)

Should we expect leaks for just internal updates (no redesign)? For example, how was it before the March 2015 event? Was it pretty much expected that the 13" and Air would be updated, or was it more of a surprise at the end of the event?
