If macbook and macbook pro get updates next week,

does the macbook air get skylake too? or no more upgrades for the air

My money is on them lowering the entry of the existing rMB, releasing an updated rMB at today's prices, and getting rid of the Air and 13" non-retina pro. This would give them retina displays across all their laptops.

As long as they release the desired and adequate update by June I would be cool with it, little more time to save up some money and hopefully the Canadian dollar would be up a little. I have a feeling they might cut some corners if they are to release it in this month.

It feels like apple is forcing us to settle for the integrated GPU, I mean 2800 euros for the model with a dedicated GPU (here in Germany) wow wow wow :/ I don't want to go the windows route, but damn the XPS 15 it's so tempting and it costs 2050 euros

Interesting....

Just been to website and mock ordered a 13 inch mbp with extra ram... Delivery time is quoted as 23-29 March

I think they will retire the air and make a entry level macbook pro with the air CPU (15W i5). I really just hope the 16gb ram and 1tb ssd upgrades come down in price below 2k total

why is xps 15 so tempting? only because of its price?or because of its bezels that are not uniform with the base? i got at my office 2 of them, but is nothing compared to MBP.
Like surface book, very nice on paper and at the event but when you are used to a perfect laptop (macbook etc) you feel and see the differences. No windows laptop still come close. So i suggest if you can and test it for at least 1-2 hours, do that before purchasing plz :) and come here with some impressions

Did delivery times string out last time there was a redesign?
If it's a refresh it makes sense, but a redesign?

Also the dGPU in XPS 15 is marginally better than Iris Pro 580 (960M vs 950M). Not worth the extra TDP imo.

1-3 buisness days over here, BTO and Custom rMbp's

Same quoted times for MacBook and mbp 15 here in gods countryside (Derby, U.K.)

It's the lag in the delivery time that has me interested, the earliest they can deliver is the day after the keynote but it could also take them up to six days

I'm calling it, new MacBook and MacBook pros to be announced. You heard it here first!

What do you mean by " the bezels are not uniform with the base"? That the bottom bezel bigger is than the rest of the bezels? I find it it so tempting because of the tiny bezels and therefore the footprint, because it has a 4k display, it comes with a 512 SDD, a dedicated GPU, a usb type c port (perfect for my nexus 6p) and everything for 2050 , 650 euros cheaper , hmmm yeah I call that tempting! I know specs aren't everything, but windows 10 is supposed to be really nice

Sorry I'm not trying to be cheeky but which macbook uses the 950m??

It's hard comparing a rMBP to a Dell because most people end up comparing the OS not the hardware.
I'd guess it's the biggest factor holding people from switching/switching back.

BTW, does anyone have any links to high-end rMBP in the UK?
I migh be interested if the price dropped dramatically...£200 here or there isn't tempting me in tbh...

This is what I go when I tried to fake buy a macbook pro 15" here in Germany " Lieferung 22 Mrz - 24 Mrz" Delivery 22-24 , I'm feeling excited now :) !

Tried to replicate that in Germany, but I only get it on BTO options. All the normal configurations still ship within 24h.

Why would they need to cut any corners? They've had since May last year for the 15" to do a redesign! They only thing holding them back is the availability of processors - which can easily be designed around. Intel would have provided Apple with all the necessary information about the Skylake processors in order for Apple's design teams to develop a redesign. They would also have needed to provide Apple with the information so that the OS X teams could write the code needed to operate the processors. I really don't understand why anyone believes that a March release would mean that they have 'cut corners'.

I'm sorry for misleading you, I got too excited I guess and chose to upgrade the SSD to a 500 gb one, that's why it was showing me that delivery time :(

yea i mean like aqua smartphone they have tiny bezel only on top and sides, but the bottom is double, the macbook is more uniform. the base is too large when you see from the front, the space between sides and where the keyboard start is almost the same as the macbook but with the screen looks like is from another device on dell.(and lets not forget that space in the macbook is filled with front speakers)
trackpad i hate the click now since all the macbook has force touch. the combination of the macbook with silver case with black keyboard is more elegant than all black. so the macbook is more elegant while the dell is more " sf "
i love the lid of the macbooks..while dell ?
the vents on dell are easy to block, while the macs being curved not so much
the battery usage: macbook around 8-9hours, dells around 6-6 and a half

One fun thing from AMD's event - if Apple gets into VR, they'll have a great leg up over other products, as they'll have physical stores to demo the VR headsets out. Kinda hard for tech keynotes to show VR advancements via a youtube live stream.

Ryan Shrout tries to get some more details.
Goodbye Crossfire (see multiple GPU as one) hello multiple GPU.
Polaris release date? Not set - asap though as Raja might be thirsty soon enough. June at the earliest.
Surely this Skylake refresh isn't going to see Polaris - Mac Pro maybe but defies the trend of using old GPU.

So hopefully we see a MBP refresh on 21st, 13" with Iris would be perfect for me. I'd love to have quad cores on 13" though, but really doubt that.

iris 550 on the 13" would be awesome. And you can stop hoping for quad cores on the 13" right now (unfortunately), because no quad cores exist at the 28W TDP

Well thanks for that info.
But I guess for some 2D layout of Logos, Brochures, Websites and at the most catalogues, this will do nicely. :)

My theory is that they have been working on the redesign for a lot more time. Remember that Broadwell was delayed and then Skylake was delayed too. Devices like the Surface Pro 3 (2014) were supposed to have Skylake at first, in deed SP3 is designed for Skylake, that's why it had thermal issues.

I guess Apple went the other way, instead of releasing the new body on 2015 with broadwell (like SP3) they kept the old body and they don't even bother in upgrading to broadwell, keeping the old haswell CPU... while they (and us ) wait for Skylake.
