Waiting for Skylake MBP thread

So we got the crapper phone, crapper iPad pro and some rubber bands...didn't see the heads up about iPad pro the new rMBP mind...back to trying to persuade myself into buying a Windows laptop..

I could actually see Apple being hesitant to release new Macs because they want to make sure they are right on everything - things like connectors, making sure they don't release Skylake weeks before Kaby is released, etc.

I don't know about that one, look at what happened with Haswell and Broadwell, yet they didn't really suffer for this. Now for some reason they're insistent on holding us back with these gen 4 (atleast on the 15th inch).

WWDC would mean 460+ days between updates. That's almost two MacBook cycles. They should have given the MBP a spec bump in Dec/Jan if they were going to wait that long.

Exactly. It's a damn shame.

So when would Kaby Lake processors suitable for the 13" rMBP become available? If they don't upgrade to Skylake until June (or worse, Fall), will it be outdated within a matter of months?

im glad they didnt just update the macs...now we are sure, like we was about the introd about iphone se and ipad pro, that the macbook BOTH TOGHEThER because this is lovely , they will have a redesign and update at WWDC

One thing for sure, that keynote really didn't impress the market ... :

And I truly hope for a 13" skylake and TB3 before June, my 2010 15" is dying !

Am trying not to be quite as pessimistic but there was a LOT of talk about replacing PCs and it often seemed more PC in the general sense than 'Windows computers' only.

I also can't see them just handing over the entire PC market to Microsoft. OSX is still the only truly comparable alternative to Windows. (Linux and Ubuntu are great but they are still far too niche to truly compete with Windows).

Apple either
1) abandons a hard earned and respectable share of a giant market (desktop/laptop computers)
2) allows other companies to build hardware with OSX
3) Continues as is.

Since it is probably 3 - I suspect when the new generation of Macs is announced we're going to see everything updated. The entire line from Mini to Pro. On the best technology available. It will be a fkn glorious day.

I could actually see Apple being hesitant to release new Macs because they want to make sure they are right on everything - things like connectors, making sure they don't release Skylake weeks before Kaby is released, etc. Maybe a simple comparison but I'm thinking like waiting for BluRay to beat out HDDVD before releasing your next player. Making sure you are on the cutting edge.

I can see their vision about replacing laptops with more portable devices.
It is appealing, but it will take years before it can be reality.... until then it would be nice if they kept supporting people who actually need real computers and laptops to work, study, code etc...

I was hoping for something like they did with the Mac Pro where they know they're over-due for an update and at least give us a sneak peak or mention of, hey we're working on it. Not even that :-(

Suggest we all tweet pictures of skies and lakes to @tim_cook

Hopefully we won't have to do the same with cannons and lakes next year.

Oh f u Apple!!! Just take out your stupid prideful head out of your ass! Seriously no mac line at all... Kind of keynote was this?? I usually ignore when other people say it's a yawn fest but this... Im really done waiting! Sorry guys i just can't wait anymore... I guess i have to move on to xps or razer sigh..

This is interesting:

This is the front of the dutch Apple store.
"De PC voorbij. Nu in twee maten" has two meanings. It means: iPad's passed the pc, in two sizes.
(Passed in the sence of a race)

Or, PC's are done/over. Now get an iPad, available in two sizes. Implying that it's replacing PC's.

Unfortunately, I think they mean both.

Want to send Apple a message?
Stop buying MacBooks, MacBook Pros, and Maxbook Airs.
The message will arrive soon enough.

I think Apple reads that more like:
"Our mac line isn't selling well? Better triple down on iPad development."

I hate to admit it but, as the for profit company Apple is, I see their reasoning for this.

It gets to the point then where they have to choose what kind of technology company they want to be. On the cutting edge of innovation, targeted towards professionals? Or, the producer of quality products for the casual user.

In the past it seems like Apple has been the former, simply allowing that technology to trickle down to the rest of their products. Now, they seem to be leaning more towards the latter.

Don't give up hope on the MacBook segment just yet.

Apple just last year introduced a brand new product in that segment, dangerously close to the power and usability of an iPad, the retina MacBook. That product had a ton of innovation, which means Apple has long term plans to keeping laptops around.

WWDC here we come. This is going to be the longest spring ever. But that's okay because I need to save money anyway :)

WWDC would mean 460+ days between updates. That's almost two cycles. They should have given the MBP a spec bump in Dec/Jan if they were going to wait that long.

So much these.
I would like to remember, once again, that the 15" suitable Broadwell CPUs were introduced two weeks after its "update".
So at this point, if doesn't come up some kind of surprise, Apple had one year to fully upgrade its computer.
One year.

And I'll prevent those who are gonna say "but they did upgrade SSD and Force Touch and a crappy rebranded dGPU!"
Yes, but I don't see how is it so impossible to ask for a decent, full upgrade of a product.
Not just a part of this and a part of that.
Full upgrade.

I really feel like Apple is taking the piss of us.

iOS 9.3 is available to download now.

Also, is anyone else waiting to check out the Lenovo X1 Yoga with OLED? The LCD screen version is getting some really good reviews so far.
