What do you guys think about the pricing, would it stay roughly the same as the pricing now? I'm planning to save $3500 (AUD) by the end of next month hopefully it shouldn't be more than that for a decent MBP 15".

The Lenovo shown above is slated for Q4 2015, by the time it properly makes it into the supply channel it will be 2016.

I doubt we will see an Apple equivalent any earlier.

Would this these be the equivalent of MBPs or MBAs?
The Lenovos are definitely a MBP competitor.

I'm pretty confident the pricing will be roughly the same.

The Lenovo Thinkpad 15" with the new Xeon is 25% heavier than the current MBP and super thick. What's the TDP for these?

I would not expect the new Xeon to end up in the MBP. The Macbook Pro has always been more of a casual consumer computer and the "Pro" should not confuse it with the Mac Pro.

You should not expect any new 13" either, I mean the 13" got the new Broadwell CPU just 5 months ago. If you need one go buy it.

Note that the size/weight could be a lot to do with cooling the new GTX980M based Quadro cards in those machines, something a MacBook Pro has never come even close to having (normally a 960/970 level card in these machines).

I don't doubt that these processors could very easily end up in the new rMBP's due to their TB3 I/O controllers with Alpine Ridge/etc.. Xeon feels *very* Pro/Apple and the markup (considering Lenovo's announced pricing) probably isn't as much as we think. Even ArsTechnica said these had a lot more in common with the mobile i7's than a *true* Xeon chip.

These will be 45/47w TDP chips, quad core with hyper-threading and an ECC enabled memory controller, enabling a higher density than we currently have in current rMBP's.

A Xeon/16-32GB/dGPU rMBP seems right up Apple's alley.

"The LSE functionality has been removed from newly manufactured systems."

From the article, newer machines do not suffer from these issues. (Not that it isn't important to note how poor of a practice that is/was to implement, generally these issues only existed on their consumer level products anyway, and never the ThinkPad line. To quote the article again: "Think-branded PCs did not include the LSE, we're told.")

Apple lagging behind as usual: http://www.theverge.com/2015/8/11/9129681/lenovo-skylake-xeon-notebooks-p50-p70

Lenovo Thinkpad P50 and P70 with Skylake, 4K display and 64GB RAM, up to 1TB of SSD storage, and two USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports for super-fast data transfer.

Prices for the P50 start at $1,599 and for the P70 at $1,999

Why is Apple lagging. Lenovo has announced that these machines will not see production till Q4. Which means it is unlikely to be in the hands of consumers until November. Most likely Apple will announce new machines by then. At least when Apple announces they ship fairly soon afterwards. So much for the "as usual" comment. Do your research before posting.

The ones that will be released this fall are 47W parts suitable for the 15" rMBP. Now, I hope Apple decides to use these processors to refresh that ageing Haswell 15" rMBP this fall and not wait and leave it for next year.

Where did you find this info about the 47W parts suitable for the 15". I'm waiting on one but can't wait much longer than October.

I don't know why but I have a feeling that M370X was a stop gap upgrade for MBP. I think when it will come out 15 inch can get Xeon chips with AMD Fire Pro GPU.

This was published 3 moths ago, and now with Lenovo pretty much confirming this leak, I believe this is accurate:
Intel-Skylake-Launch-Schedule-635x235.jpg

The ones with HQ (High performance graphics and Quad core) at the end are destined for the 15" rMBP. I still have this uneasy feeling that they will not announce any Skylake rMBP this year and just a Broadwell refreshed iMac lineup.

Could the i7-6700HQ be the MBP 15" cpu? because that has the September launch.

Determining that would be difficult since that chart doesn't list the frequencies. I assume they would be using the 6920 HQ and 6820HQ the since they are closer in terms of numbering (weak argument I know) to the Core i7-4980HQ 2.8 GHz and the Core i7-4870HQ 2.5 GHz. But they could use the i7-6700HQ since is similar to the Core i7-4770HQ 2.2 GHz. Anyways this is just a guess and we will have to wait until Tuesday (IDF2015) for Intel to reveal the frequencies of these processors.

That's what I've been saying here. And if there are multi-core options, as we generally see w/Xeon, that gives Apple even more play to work profits at the high end.

I think the 13" is the most natural choice today for most users. I feel the 15" is too big, and far too expensive. I really want the 13", but I've been waiting for Skylake for ages, and now that it's here, I simply cant go and buy a 13" Broadwell, considering I do some gaming. Just hoping we don't have to wait until 2016...

I am wanting to buy a 15" rMBP too, and have saved up some dollars, but keep holding off for the Skylake myself - hard to know what to do. Until then I keep using my old 2010 13" MBP (mind you it is still ticking along well with no issues) just want a bigger screen and the retina now (eyes are getting older - hehe)

At this point, unless you are desperate for a new machine, it's a good idea to wait.

Thanks, I'm going to wait it out a few months.

How about the next MBP comes with an i7 and has the BTO for the xeon cpu and maybe a firepro dGPU?

That's the most likely scenario. The only issue is that you can't just upgrade the CPU to the XEON on an i7 motherboard. You need a completely different motherboard that supports ECC etc.

What are the odds of a Skylake 13" rMBP in October/November? Can't stand my late 2010 MBA anymore :(, If it gets release only in March, I will definitely buy one now, but 2 months from now maybe I could wait.

I'm waiting for IDF on Tuesday, and if nothing 13" related is released there I'm going to pull the trigger I think. Broadwell is still an awesome upgrade, and it looks like the skylake processors for the 13" aren't going to be released until 2016

Let's say you buy a 13" Broadwell MPBr now, then the Skylake MBPr releases Q1 2016. What value of the original price can you expect to be able to sell your 13" Broadwell for if you act fast? Like 80%, 70%, 60% of its original value?

It wouldn't be worth it if that's what you're asking. It depends on which version and storage though but probably (from quick searches) close to 60-75% would be my guess. You could get more if you're lucky though I'd assume.

There's still no information about a 28W Skylake-U. The leaks shows that two U processors will be released in January 2016 but these are the 15W vPro versions.

I haven't seen many discussions about this but I think that it is possible for Apple to release a 13" (or 14"?) laptop with a 15W Skylake-U to merge the existing two lines into one new retina MacBook.

The CPU difference between the MBA and the 13" MBP was minor anyway and the 15W Skylake-U is getting the HD520 iGPU so the new 15W could be close to the old 28W in performance while being more efficient. Having many lines of MacBooks will confuse the consumers and MBA vs MBP is still confusing today because it's either a good screen or better portability/battery.

Hi guys,
what do you think about release of Macbook Pro 15'?
2015-end or 2016-early?

I can't wait to see skylake :)
