People are assuming October, but Apple has used November to release new iMacs. So expect new laptops and desktops with the possibility of a new 4k Apple monitor. We should know more on August 18th.
We are talking about events here, and Apple has always had an ipad/mac event in October for the last 3-4 years

If appropriate Skylake CPU's are really coming in a few months, you should be able to see some Skylake notebooks unveiled at IFA 2015 4-9 September.

I doubt Apple will use a xeon cpu. They rarely use more expensive parts that offer virtually no benefit to the majority of users. They also never used worksation graphics. That xeon will cost more than a similarly clocked standard quad core and Apple just always tries to keep their BOM low.

but xeon cpu does have iGPU ? if not, there will not see the light into any macbook

This particular mobile Xeon has GT4e iGPU.
Its TDP should be around 35/45W according to previous Intel' slides.

I put together a little chart combining all Macs, laptop and desktop, since 2009 to see which month is the most common to release. It's a tie between June and October but the trend obviously points to the first half of the year.

In regards to Retina MBP it has seen six (6) updates since 2012 but without much consistency when it comes to when they were released:

I myself hope for a rMBP in October :)

January 2011 - 2635QM - 2820QM
Early 2011 - February 24, 2011

September/October 2011 - 2675QM - 2860QM ***Sandy Bridge mid-cycle bump
Late 2011 - October 24, 2011

April 2012 - 3615QM - 3720QM
Mid 2012 MBP - June 11, 2012.

September 2012 - 3630QM - 3840QM ***Ivy Bridge mid-cycle bump
Early 2013 MBP - February 13, 2013

June 2013 - 4750HQ - 4950HQ
Late 2013 MBP - October 23, 2013

July 2014 - 4770HQ 4870HQ ***Haswell mid-cycle bump***
Mid 2014 MBP - July 29, 2014

This is in regards to the 15"/17"(before discontinuation) and there's obviously release date overlap with the 13"

2015 not consideed because it uses the same processor as Mid 2014 and same architecture as late 2013.

If you were to take the 13" and less broadwell into consideration, that's September 2014 for processor release with a March 2015 MBP release.

Can someone please explain to me what all the hoopla about skylake is? Is it really going to be such a significant difference that people just can't stop shi*ting themselves over?

To me it's not about a performance increase (maybe the iGPU), but more about "future-proofing". Skylake will bring many new technologies to the MacBooks, which can help the Mac to stay up to date for a longer time. (Thunderbolt 3, usb-c, ...)

But if my current laptop would be slow as hell, I wouldn't care much and pull the trigger on the current MacBooks

I mean if you just bought a Macbook Pro yesterday, probably not. But there are still significant improvements over the current chips. Especially if it adds USB type C, and thunderbolt 3. That port is the future, so it's important to have a laptop with it.

But for me, I have a 2012 retina MBP. So I'm getting significantly more storage, significantly faster SSD, the capability of driving 5k monitors, thunderbolt 3 and USB type C (probably), better battery life, force touch, faster processing, better graphics, better RAM, etc. So yes, it's a huge deal for me.

Well, Apple released Haswell Macbook Pro on October 2013, not Jun 2013
True. But they released an MBA with Haswell earlier. The chart was about Apple adopting new technology fast, not MBP specifically. I should've mentioned that :)

Stop complaining. Early 2011 MBP over here. :) I've only survived this long because last year I built up the guts to open up the computer and give it 10GB of RAM and an AirPort card that supports Continuity.

(And even with those upgrades, the Skylake rMBP can't come soon enough!)

I'll be upgrading my 2008 MBP. If I had your laptop, I'd be waiting for Kaby Lake or Cannonlake :)

I hope the next MBP will have similar specs to the new Lenovo P50/P70... I'm in desperate need to replace my machine from 09, but will and can wait till the skylake release.

For me the most important things to future proof it would be:
- USB Type C
- Thunderbolt 3
- Powerful enough to handle 4K video editing
- HDMI 2.0a

But something tells me that Apple will double down this year on UHD/4K, starting in september with the iphone that can record 4K videos and a new appletv that can handle 4K and airplay it. I also expect around the same time that apple will start offering 4K content on itunes.
Then hopefully around October, Apple will upgrade the mac line-up with the new 4K retina iMac and upgraded MacBook Airs and Pros that can easily handle 4K and also airplay it to the appletv.
Skylake offers some great HEVC enhancements, so it would make sense.
I'm not sure if we ever gonna see an update to the cinema displays, but if it doesn't happen this year together with all the 4K/UHD related releases, then I believe that Apple has dropped it.

I really really wish and hope that Apple would somehow integrate TouchID into the MBP or the mouse/keyboard/trackpad, it would make a huge difference. *fingers crossed*
