Completely agree with everything in that article. I've been using macs exclusively since the mid 90's. The last several years have been absolutely pathetic, starting with how out of touch the new-style mac pro is with professionals. They have to know that if their mac computer lines die off, so do their peripheral products too eventually. Banking on tablets as the main source of computing for people's needs is not something I see as prudent.

I've had $2500 dollars sitting in hand for the past 6 months waiting for a new macbook pro. I just might pull the cord and get the razer blade. I've already decided my next desktop will be a pc I build myself with dual boot windows/hackintosh. And if the hackintosh route becomes cumbersome I'll just drop the mac os x from my workflow. I really want a mac laptop so I can still run both windows and mac os for personal use but I'm about done waiting.

lmao there were people from this post waiting for like 7-9 months for some update.
Glad I bought mine.

I told you guys before the EARLIEST time frame would be april-may, not march.

But noo.

*tinfoil hat alert*

What if Apple really was pissed at Intel? And what if they decided to go with AMD's Zen which is slated for release in Q4 this year. Mobile Zen APU in a rMBP with a polaris dGPU? This would also link up with the possible rumours about a redesign around the October time... Yes it would suck to wait that long, but doing this we would finally have some competition in the mobile CPU segment that is so sorely lacking. It would also mean sticking with x86 rather than some transition to an in-house SoC design based on ARM (which would be like the PPC>Intel transition all over again).

In all honesty though, I think this would be quite unlikely at least for the next release. I personally wouldn't rule it out entirely though. AMD are probably desperate for customers in the CPU segment...

*/tinfoil hat*
AMD already stated their general Zen APU offerings would not be available earlier than 2017. So if Apple is really into AMD, either it ordered a customised chip, or the only possible thing would be the upcoming 14nm, 8-core Summit Ridge CPU in the Fall. Together with 14nm Polaris GPUs, I think the combination could get into both the large rMBP and iMac with the light-use battery life of Intel's iGPU.

Of course it is quite a dilemma to Apple I suppose, since Intel is about to launch Kaby Lake in the Fall...

If that was the plan all along, then why skip broadwell? A simple update to broadwell last year would of cut this thread to half its size lol.

There is one positive out of this event, seeing as the rMBP didn't get an update and the cpus *should* be available so it could have just got a spec boost, it means apple is going to do a redesign in june!

Or Apple is getting aggressive at milking their customers and fan base. How else can you increase the base price of an iPad by just adding the Pro moniker?

Best case: June with Skylake
Worst case: Apple skips Skylake, aiming at a release in the Fall with Kaby Lake
Miracle: Apple skips Skylake, releasing AMD 15-inch MacBook Pros in the Fall (8-core Summit Ridge CPU + Polaris GPU)...

I hope they give up on AMD and put a 4GB GTX 850M since it's the only one that runs in the 40-watt range because knowing Apple, they like to have the lowest power consumption laptop in the world. I would rather have the GTX950 but that runs in the 50 watt range.

I went off the grid today
1st time in awhile! On purpose for the keynote

Was praying for an update today

Just checking in now to this lack of any update from Apple

I would like to Thank all of the members of this thread. A LONG LONG time follower and lurker

I do not own a laptop. Wanting a 13 rMP skylake w a new design

The positive, for me today

With all the wealth of info and insight that I get here, I can now say no matter what happens in June at WWDC...I do feel comfortable that I can make a wise and informed decision. Going w Apple or the other brand.

For that reason, I am truly Thankful and Blessed to you all

Now I know skylake is NOT the next James Bond Movie installment ...And Kobylake is not Bryant's retirement estate
(Sarcasm)

To a " possible " great Fathers Day present in June!!
Time will tell

As long as this guy here with 28W keeps saying launched instead of released, no 13" update possible. There are no entries over at Geekbench either with this CPU. Let's hope they (Intel) will release it soon so Apple can do their silent spec update.

http://ark.intel.com/products/91167/Intel-Core-i7-6567U-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

As far as the 15" goes, according to Intel all CPU variants are already released, so beside focusing on Nylon bands, i don't really understand the hold up to update 2014 technology.

Either Pascal/Polaris is selected as the dGPU or there's no dGPU at all.
850M with iris pro 580 is waste.

You mean "announced" instead of "launched" right?

What i find frustrating is that the other 2 chips that were rumoured to be destined for the 13", the 6267U and 6287U, are already shown as "launched" :/

At least we don't have to hear rumors on the iPhone SE and new watch bands anymore?:confused: Going take a break from this thread for a bit and check back in when Intel launches their NUC w/ iris pro 580

Oooooohhhh, look at Nostra-f&^%#in-Damus over here and fancy-pants-shiny personal computer!

Please regale us with more quatrains of pending doom and imminent technological hardware purchases....while you're 'in-the-zone' so to speak, any word on when Hover Boards are due to hit the Toys R Us shelves...they're running late?!
(just havin' a laugh mate, you make some valid points :) )

So, I have to ask, what is everyone doing, if there's no new rMBP's announced at WWDC? I need to replace my laptop before August and need an alternative.

AMD is about to launch its energy efficient 14nm GPUs, the smaller one of which is said to hit the performance of GTX 950 at a significantly lower power. Of course Nvidia would launch some too, but it seems the rumour mill says AMD might win the time to market this round. ;)

Hi, Since you ask - maybe now its time for a first post after long time following this fantastic thread.

i decide between an t460 with 940mx from Lenovo and a mbp 2016 13 inch. Whichever comes out first i will take.

the t460 maybe uglier but hey if offers more flexibility in upgrading and the 940mx will have around the same punch as the igpu of the mpb 13 2016. of course the mbp is nicer has a better screen and faster ssd.

i am actually a longtime windows/Linux user but i got an older iPad mini 2. So i decided to give a mbp a chance because the ipadmini works solid(but of course it is more for entertainment then work) + alot of people are happy with an mbp.

but actually i am a bit pissed because i really expected at least an update of the mbp 13 to skylake which i would have bought instantly after announcement.

also i don't really know whats going on with apple(seems they lost their spirit) - the 28tdp processors are already used in the Vaio Z flip - so they are available. And i think if someone does a redesign it starts already 3 years ahead (but hey i am not a design expert - at least i would start gathering as soon as that)

this idea with the ipadpro replacing laptops i do not really get - (its the same like the surface pro from MS) - i cannot imagine to work in business on such devices even though the keyboards are getting better. (and i like to have a bunch of interfaces on my device)

tja thats it for now
greetings

Vaio Z has been using these parts and has been shipping to consumers for nearly a month. Someone back in the lye 200 pages was posting benchmarks from their unit. Ark status doesn't really matter at this point because this "announced" product is out in the wild while "released" iris pro 580 parts won't be seen until May.

You guys keep talking about offerings from

No mate. The top of the line i7 for the 13" (i7-6567U) hasn't been released yet.
EDIT: nevermind. the Vaio Z is shipping with the 6567U. WTF Apple :(

I'm gonna stay off this thread for a while. The rumour mill is just as dry as my sex life, haven't had anything at all, ever.

See you in a few months

I may be jumping to conclusions here, but did you just equate getting fresh rMBP rumors to losing your virginity? :p

All right we will have a fresh batch of bad rumors when you return lol.

To be clear, Apple is not in rush for a new MacBook Pro. Why? It's because most of the buyer's never heard of Skylake, Thunderbolt 3 etc. They are not as much interested in specs then we are. My Girlfriend never heard of Broadwell oder Haswell but maybe your Girlfriend does. She buys it, uses it and thats all.

The Phones are having much more attention for the majority, they are more comparable. Maybe like a fashion product. Not to forget, the revenue is much much larger.
