AMD already stated their general Zen APU offerings would not be available earlier than 2017. So if Apple is really into AMD, either it ordered a customised chip, or the only possible thing would be the upcoming 14nm, 8-core Summit Ridge CPU in the Fall. Together with 14nm Polaris GPUs, I think the combination could get into both the large rMBP and iMac with the light-use battery life of Intel's iGPU.*tinfoil hat alert*
What if Apple really was pissed at Intel? And what if they decided to go with AMD's Zen which is slated for release in Q4 this year. Mobile Zen APU in a rMBP with a polaris dGPU? This would also link up with the possible rumours about a redesign around the October time... Yes it would suck to wait that long, but doing this we would finally have some competition in the mobile CPU segment that is so sorely lacking. It would also mean sticking with x86 rather than some transition to an in-house SoC design based on ARM (which would be like the PPC>Intel transition all over again).
In all honesty though, I think this would be quite unlikely at least for the next release. I personally wouldn't rule it out entirely though. AMD are probably desperate for customers in the CPU segment...

Of course it is quite a dilemma to Apple I suppose, since Intel is about to launch Kaby Lake in the Fall...
There is one positive out of this event, seeing as the rMBP didn't get an update and the cpus *should* be available so it could have just got a spec boost, it means apple is going to do a redesign in june!
Best case: June with Skylake
Worst case: Apple skips Skylake, aiming at a release in the Fall with Kaby Lake
Miracle: Apple skips Skylake, releasing AMD 15-inch MacBook Pros in the Fall (8-core Summit Ridge CPU + Polaris GPU)...
Either Pascal/Polaris is selected as the dGPU or there's no dGPU at all.I hope they give up on AMD and put a 4GB GTX 850M since it's the only one that runs in the 40-watt range because knowing Apple, they like to have the lowest power consumption laptop in the world. I would rather have the GTX950 but that runs in the 50 watt range.

850M with iris pro 580 is waste.
As long as this guy here with 28W keeps saying launched instead of released, no 13" update possible. There are no entries over at Geekbench either with this CPU. Let's hope they (Intel) will release it soon so Apple can do their silent spec update.

As far as the 15" goes, according to Intel all CPU variants are already released, so beside focusing on Nylon bands, i don't really understand the hold up to update 2014 technology.
*Laughs with macbook pro in hand*
lmao there were people from this post waiting for like 7-9 months for some update.
Glad I bought mine.
I told you guys before the EARLIEST time frame would be april-may, not march.
But noo.
324 pages of over-optimistic people.
So, I have to ask, what is everyone doing, if there's no new rMBP's announced at WWDC? I need to replace my laptop before August and need an alternative.
It should be sometime around june or 2H '16When's Pascal/Polaris coming out? I'm getting anxious![]()
AMD is about to launch its energy efficient 14nm GPUs, the smaller one of which is said to hit the performance of GTX 950 at a significantly lower power. Of course Nvidia would launch some too, but it seems the rumour mill says AMD might win the time to market this round.I hope they give up on AMD and put a 4GB GTX 850M since it's the only one that runs in the 40-watt range because knowing Apple, they like to have the lowest power consumption laptop in the world. also i don't really know whats going on with apple(seems they lost their spirit) - the 28tdp processors are already used in the Vaio Z flip
I'm gonna stay off this thread for a while. The rumour mill is just as dry as my sex life, haven't had anything at all, ever.
See you in a few months
All right we will have a fresh batch of bad rumors when you return lol.I'm gonna stay off this thread for a while. The rumour mill is just as dry as my sex life, haven't had anything at all, ever.
