http://arstechnica.co.uk/gaming/201...-win-for-amd-and-disappointment-for-nvidia/1/

Now we know why Apple went with AMD route for their GPUs. R9 290X is as fast in DirectX 12, that is based on Mantle, on the low-level end, as GTX 980 Ti.

Metal, Vulkan, and every other modern API is based on Mantle. If your games are optimized for it, you get free performance from your GPUs.

That is really astonishing.

EOT.

I seriously doubt that Apple chose AMD over Nvidia this time around just because supposedly the former cards run better on Directx 12 than the latter ones.

I'm sure there were other criteria instead of that. Apple couldn't care less if AMD's run better on Directx 12.

I did not meant that, even if it sounded like.

I know this is super out there and could have no connection at all, but a store here in Australia has put 10% off mac computers and they usually do that when new stock is coming. I completely understand that this could just be a normal sale but we are getting close to a *possible* release date so maybe that is why they're getting rid of some stock. Maybe the store thinks apple will release soon but aren't 100% sure but who knows, if more stores have these kinda sales hopefully it means we'll get the new MBP soon :)

Please let me dream :3

Summer is usually a dead season for electronics, it can be just a sale. Anyway, it's 10% off for 13' or 15' or both?

The advantages that a Xeon CPU brings are not applicable to probably 99.5% of even 15" Pro buyers, for one thing.
Ok I suppose. What are the disadvantages of using it over a standard Skylake H? I know there hasn't been a ton of info.

Cost, possibly power consumption, possibly lack of decent integrated graphics.
I was under the impression that the power consumption was at 47W, which Macbook Pros are at now, and that it had GT4e (which is supposedly their best one) integrated graphics. Couldn't tell you about cost.

Again, I'm not saying they'll definitely use these chips, I'm just trying to understand why they wouldn't.

I haven't seen specifics - the reports I read still had no TDP info and no information about integrated graphics. Still, even if those are at parity, they would have to justify the extra cost, and with the laptop being sold primarily to people who have no need for Xeon processors, I just don't see it happening.

Hey, how about this?
Supposed release dates for complete notebook Skylake lineup.

What are the odds of Apple updating the rMB with those core M processors in October or November??

I cannot think of a reason why waiting until next year for an upgrade when the chips are available as of next month.

No way they would even ANNOUNCE a new MBP this year, they just refreshed it in May. Makes them look bad.
Have you checked out the average time between releases on the Buyers Guide? >5 months between releases isn't really unprecedented for the MBP - especially if they announce it as the high end version (akin to how they released the retina MBP).

It could be a semi silent update as they have done some other times before. I'll tell you what makes them look bad, updating a product with processors that have been available for six months or more.

3 releases in 2009, 2 in 2012, 2 in 2013. June 2012 to February 2013 was 3 releases. So I'd say it's cutting it close, but not super impossible. The key, in my opinon is can they get sufficient inventory for the holidays. If not, then I'd say February or March 2016. Given Skylake, TB 3, USB 3.1 and USB C, I'd say if it's an update, it won't be silent.
