I'm still waiting for a PC manufacturer to create a laptop that just so accidentally happens to be perfectly Hackintoshable. Obviously not marketed as such, other than word of mouth on various forums.

If somebody, maybe Xiaomi, do something like that... Without official support BUT working on community for making it doable... Well, we'll have some serious competitors. :D

I'm out of the speculation game. Apple will do whatever they damn well please, I guess its always been that way, but now it seems moreso. I can see Tim Cook sitting in his office briefly looking up from his iPhone 7 and staring out the Window.

Looks nice, shocked about that fast ethernet (100 Mbps) though. Straight from 2000.

By the way, to put things in perspective. If the new rMBP's Are released at the end of the 1st half of the year, thats the 1st of July.

That means the release will be just ~ 3 weeks later than WWDC. So perhaps announcement at dub dub dee sea and availability less than a month later.
That also opens up the possibility that the new redesign brings Polaris GPU's.

Oppenheim, I know, you're:

by me saying this. (I don't want to open up this whole argument chain again)
I too think it's very likely they will ditch the dGPU's for good, but there still might be a reason for Apple to implement one for some reason.

Well friends, I'm saying au revoir to this thread: I gave in today. Or, how I learned to embrace the deal and abandon the wait:

I have a late-2013 13" rMBP (8/128) that is in desperate need of more storage and a little more graphics horsepower. Like most of you, I was eagerly hoping something would be shown at the March event, but came up empty handed. After resigning to the June wait, I started to wonder if I should look back to Windows. Razer Blade. SurfaceBook. All very sexy machines that trounce comparable Apple configurations. But lo, today I see a sale on my dream machine: Mid-2015 15" retina, 16/512/dGPU. $1939.

I know the architecture is old. 2 generations old. But it's still twice as fast as my current machine, 4 times the storage, and has the ever-elusive dGPU to boot. I kinda want to stay with the 13" form factor, but I know I'll never get a dGPU in that. And what if Apple just makes the 2016 model thinner, weaker, and takes away ports? They did it to the poor Mac Mini. USB-C is great and all, but I have nothing with that interface currently, and **** if I want dongles hanging off it all over the place.

So, I pulled the trigger. I know it'll still probably be faster than even the top-end 2016 13", and it's a whole lot of computer for $1900. Or maybe Apple will knock it out of the park in June and I'll be jealous of everyone with stronger patience than myself.

I feel ya. I doubt most here would not see the logic (and sanity in your choice). You even beat the refurb price! It is still very much a good machine and still very capable. Well wishes and happy productive journeys.

Check on us plebs from time to time!

I don't think people get triggered as often as you seem to think they do

And look at this STRIGHT FROM THEIR WEBSITE: Intel HD 6500? Such a ridiculous error.

I LOVE your signature.

Why do people think there won't be new Macs at WWDC? Because there are no leaks?

Thanks!
Which of two? :D

Well friends, I'm saying au revoir to this thread:

Come on, stay with us a little bit more...

For ever, and ever, and ever....

Anyway, as @nicovh say, I won't start to despair for this leaks.
Yeah, they aren't good as we hoped, but "second half of the year" could mean "announced at WWDC and coming in July".
And probably with Polaris.
Bring it on, Apple!

Thanks!

If it's announced at WWDC, when would preorders begin?

"Member of the Waiting for Skylake MBP thread gang, one of the most unique online events you'll ever see"

We should start taking bets how many pages this thread will have before the MBP actually gets updated. Last iMac update was completely unexpected and there was no event, I'd be pretty pleased if the same happened (ideally before end of April, as this rather doubtful rumour about rMB update mentions).

I pulled the trigger on a 2.2 15" rMBP(2015).If I like what I see at WWDC,I'll just sell it.

The last iMac update was expected. We had references of a 4k iMac in El Capitan in June and Mark Gurman said the 21.5 inch would be announced by the end of October.

At this point, a new redesigned Mac isn't enough for me to pull the trigger. In March it would have been. Now, the 10.12 announcement has to be darn good otherwise that's the end of the road. These machines are expensive! Hopefully Apple is packing serious heat for WWDC.

AFAIK, Kaby Lake U (the version for mobile applications) is more likely compared to Skylake U. This roadmap shows, that Kaby Lake U will be available in Q2/Q3 2016.

GPU driver development for Kaby Lake began in October 2015. Enough time for Apple to develop ultra-thin Kaby Lake rMBPs.

Kaby Lake is more efficient than Broadwell and Skylake and allows thinner rMBPs. Kaby Lake is also the first CPU version which supports USB 3.1 Gen. 2 without additional chips. Kaby Lake provides also two important components for Apples iTunes store contents: Hardware accelerated HVEC decoding and support for HDCP 2.2.
