AFAIK, Kaby Lake U (the version for mobile applications) is more likely compared to Skylake U. This roadmap shows, that Kaby Lake U will be available in Q2/Q3 2016.

GPU driver development for Kaby Lake began in October 2015. Enough time for Apple to develop ultra-thin Kaby Lake rMBPs.

Kaby Lake is more efficient than Broadwell and Skylake and allows thinner rMBPs. Kaby Lake is also the first CPU version which supports USB 3.1 Gen. 2 without additional chips. Kaby Lake provides also two important components for Apples iTunes store contents: Hardware accelerated HVEC decoding and support for HDCP 2.2.
Kaby Lake would be a real surprise. You would hope that them taking so long would be for such a game-changer. Great design and the newest processors would make it worth its money, considering not a whole lot would be out with kaby lake and far from Apple standards (design wise). Let's hope Apple is crazy enough to skip 2 generations of Intel processors (am I right, 2?) while meeting a June/July release schedule. I honestly need a new laptop and am so tired of waiting, please WWDC, come soon

Honestly, Apple better pull something worth this entire wait because I am seriously considering converting to Windows/Linux. The only reason I hold onto MBPr for so long is OSX is a god send for programming, but now with Microsoft introducing native Linux terminal Its tempting considering the value per dollar is really upsetting for Apple right now :(

Macbook Pro 15" ($3,799aud):
- i7-4870HQ
- 16gb DDR3
- 512gb PCIe
- 2880x1800 IPS
- R9 M370x
- 8~9 hours Battery.

Dell XPS 15" ($3,699aud):
- i7-6700HQ
- 32gb DDR4
- 1TB PCIe
- 3840x2160 IPS
- GTX 960m.
- 6~7 hours battery.

I even managed to snag the Dell price down to as little as $3329aud through Dell Chat. A few years back I would argue that Macs had superior build quality, track-pad, speakers etc but the Dell XPS 15 has all that and with an improved bezel-less design. I don't want to sound like a fanboy or anything but is anyone else seriously considering leaving Apple due to the lack of 15 inch update? The worst part is Apple still sells these laptops with inferior hardware and are well aware of what the market has to offer yet doesn't even cut down the price the slightest?

That is because they can. The vast majority of folk who make up the general public don't know what Skylake, Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, the Golden Gate Bridge, ... are. The sales people at Apple Stores, JB HiFi, The Good Guys, etc. aren't going to baffle them with all that information - they just say 'This is the latest model, look at how fantastic it is!'. As a result, people will still purchase the 'current' models, until the new one is released.
When you put it into perspective, the number of users who understand that the 'current' models are, in fact, not up-to-date with the technology, is incredibly small. Mum and Dad wanting to buy their dearest child a laptop for VCE/HSC or Uni don't care about the processor or the dGPU. They only care that it operates quickly and that it is what their child wants.
The small number of people who are aware are, like you and me, waiting for Apple to release a new product. We are happy to pay the money when it is released, but why would Apple reduce the profits they can make from the much larger audience who are prepared to buy now, even at full price?
Don't get me wrong... I think it sucks, too. I spent some time explaining to the computer techs at work just this past week, that I am not prepared to pay the Apple (+ Australia) premium for such outdated technology. But for the great unwashed masses... it doesn't matter and Apple can make more $$$.

They only care that it operates quickly and that it is what their child wants.
I wouldn't even bet on them understanding "operating quickly". "So this is the fastest Mac laptop? I'll have one!" I'd hazzard a guess that amount of parents running Geekbench on various computers to compare them is rather small. ;)

This has been discussed every few pages of this thread. Kaby Lake U is being released weeks 33-45 of 2016, but those processors all have GT2. Apple has used GT3/GT4 for MBPs. U chips with GT3e don't appear until weeks 6-18 of 2017. Kaby Lake MBPs are not happening this year.

A Kabylake update will probably come at the end of 2017...if new Macs are released this WWDC. However, one question I have for people with functioning computers...wouldn't it be more reasonable to wait for the second update. As we all know that if Apple implements new tech...the first model has its faults (staingate, antennagate, chipgate, bendgate) which are then addressed in the immediate update.

If I had a 2014-13 laptop I'd probably hold off...I think a lot of people are rocking older laptops which may explain why people are so....'anxious' about the Skykake wait...perhaps?

i am aware that there are some power users out there who need fast chips, but personally, i use my 2010 mbp daily and have nothing to complain about it. it's the 15", so with an i5 processor (better than the core generations), once upgraded to an ssd and 8gb or ram, it holds up quite fine.
gpus have gotten better in the last years much more than cpus. also, lots of efforts were put on reducing power consumption through optimised instructions.
a note for you: skylake still won't have full hardware x265/HEVC acceleration, but it will come only with kaby lake :p
this, along with native usb 3.1 is reason enough for me to wait some more.
still i'm really curious about the future redesign, bring it on!!

for the same price that apple is selling now the macbook pros..i hope standard to have 16gb(with updated to 32 gb ram for just 150$) ram, 512 ssd default(200$ for 1T ssd and 300$ for 2T ssd), only top end cpu. And i think they will sell a lot and bring the mac on top of the ipad

Still rocking an original launch date 2012 rMBP. Outside the battery, it's working just fine.

Lol, not a chance. 32G will likely be at least a $400 upgrade. SSD would be at least $600 to go to 2TB. There's always been huge mark ups for the higher end upgrades.

what do you mean the battery? how many cycles you have?

I have about 750 cycles and the battery only lasts about 2-3hrs of light usage (browsing/email). Apple advertises 80% capacity at 1000 cycles. So based off the original 7 hour capacity, I should still be able to get at least 5 hours on battery. I don't get any where remotely close to that.

I love my 2015 15inch mbpr that i bought for $1400 on ebay. it had only 20 cycles and it runs great. i might not even upgrade when skylake version comes out unless it gives significantly lighter weight and longer battery. good luck with the waiting guys

Yeah I've an iMac and the reason I want to see the new ones at this WWDC is out of curiosity. I will buy myself one in late 2017 though...after it seems like a stable model.

Yeah just hope it holds out till 2017...and you can get your hands on a far stable model of the new MBs

Im upgrading because I have decided my Macbook Air screen is just too nasty to keep using. If it weren't for the HUGE screen upgrade I will see going to the new Pros, I wouldn't have a need to upgrade honestly.

2017? Pretty sure a new model is coming out this year (hence this thread), and that's what I'm going for.

Who says that they use GT3 or GT4 Kaby Lake U?

Please see post #9424 from HighRes. This topic has been discussed many, many times.

"That Apple MBPs use GT3e/GT4e (and the corresponding top end chips before the GT* classification was used) is not opinion. It is fact. Every single unibody MBP generation, even the pre-Retina dGPU-only era, used the top end Intel chips, once available. In comparison, even Dell XPS uses midrange (GT2e) chips. Apple has never done so for MBPs."

And thats why they are late. They should have used midrange intel graphic but give dgpu and make refresh half year ago.
