Apple offers 2 options...1) WITH dGPU and 2) Without...so why wishing things to change?
I'm NOT wishing for things to change. I LIKE the option of having a dGPU or not. I am saying that there is a group on here that wishes that Apple would remove the dGPU altogether, even though they can get the same speced machine with or without dGPU and only the iGPU.

Sorry that my sarcasm was not obvious enough.

Apple offers 2 options.
1) With dGPU
and
2) With a compromised design accounting for a dGPU that is not included

Option 2 could have a thinner/lighter design with more efficient heat dissipation. That is why people here don't want a dGPU.
Interesting. I perceive it differently.

1) With an iGPU
and
2) With a compromised design of trying to squeeze a dGPU into a system with less efficient heat dissipation than required, leading to throttling.

If the MBP is designed for handling a dGPU, won't its cooling system better without it?
I genuinely don't understand.

I'm not an expert and I doubt anyone here can explain how much a new dGPUless design would improve thermals. I just think that designing the cooling system for a specific set of components and then removing the dGPU is a bad idea. The positions of the heatsink, fans and vents won't be optimal for cooling. Also there's an empty space on the current MBP that is not used because that is where the dGPU should have been.

A design without a dGPU should be more compact while being able to cool the 45W Intel chip more efficiently.

The original 2012 rMBP had a dGPU in all options. The current model has the same design of the 2012 model so the cheap non-dGPU option is the compromised one.

What sound? In what circumstances?

When the fan spins up (if I'm doing anything CPU intensive like watching a video or have a lot going on at the same time) it makes a slight humming sound when running at low speed (~2k rpm) and starts to make a whining sound when it hits full speed (>5k rpm). I think one of the two fans is just dieing, so may replace it if I notice my laptop getting too hot when it's otherwise idle.

How many cycles you have on your mbp?

Sorry everyone to intrude here like this but this the most active thread that never sleeps ... I just need help before i do something i would regret here ... Usually image files either run automatically or place a folder on your desktop when you "mount" them (double click/open then).
-think of image files as virtual discs or USB memory sticks.

So it should simply be a matter of double clicking the image file.
-and potentially open the executable update file within.

Thank you very much

The behavior over on the MacBook forum is pretty wild right now. 2015 Mb owners are high fiving each other and applauding Apple for releasing what they consider to be an insignificant/crap update. What kind of crabs in a bucket mentality is that? I will buy the 2016 rMBP but sincerely hope that the 2017 model is even better.

Word. What exactly were they expecting?

The rMB refresh is 100% in line with what i would have expected (except maybe the absence of TB3, but maybe that's considered a "pro" feature)

the joke is on all of them for owning that overpriced, underwhelming Macbook to begin with LOL.

It could be dust. This was posted a few days ago on TheVerge forums: http://www.theverge.com/2016/4/16/11444228/the-rmbp-vents-let-in-a-lot-of-stuff

Read the response to the first comment, he says he could hear "a shrill whine in the left fan" because of the dust.

Ive been waiting 2 months for a Macbook Pro refresh. Hopefully thats announced in June bc Im ready to give Apple my money

Finally registered. Very ready.

I laugh at the people here who complain they're still using a 2012 rMBP. I'm over here on a Mid-2009 and it's still running pretty well!

Anyway, does anyone think they'll actually sacrifice performance/battery life for aesthetics? I mean I know it's Apple and they'll literally do anything to make their devices thinner, but do you think they're keeping in mind the market of the Macbook PRO, the professionals? So many professionals use this, even more than the iMac and Mac Pro's.

I personally love the form factor of the current rMBP, but these reports of being thinner/tapered (don't get me started on the butterfly keyboard) are making me a bit nervous that after two years of waiting, I might have to end up purchasing a refurb 2015 model...

Well at least this MacBook update and Polaris rumor pretty much confirms that Apple is holding off for one crazy MBP update at WWDC.

At the very least we'll see a skylake and polaris dgpu update, with a possible redesign. I'll be one happy camper upgrading to that from my mid 2012.
