The green invasion begins... Baby steps.
yea baby

So my 2012 rMBP fans are now making a whining sound (otherwise still functional). I'm soooo scared that I won't make it till the refresh. lol, I gently tell my laptop "hang in there buddy ... not much time left ... you can do it".

The refreshed MacBooks are a nice bit of others pathetic news with the Mac lineup, but the fact that the only thing they changed is the proc makes me worried that any significant change to the rMBP line may not be immediately available after WWDC.

MBA's have just been updated with 8 GB of RAM. Second update to the line in 2 months seems very unlikely for Apple. That means that 13 and 15 inch ultra thin laptops from Apple should be new Macbook Pro's.

What sound? In what circumstances?

Totally agree. The fact that Apple didn't give MBAs Skylake processors, even though they're available, clearly shows the MBAs are getting the cMBP zombie treatment. I'd anticipate next year the MB gets Kaby Lake and a $100-200 price drop, while the MBA either gets dropped completely or ignored like an unwanted stepchild, a la the cMBP.

This also opens the door for the 13" Skylake rMBP to potentially have 15W U class chips instead of 28W ones. In order to maintain price tier differentiation, Apple wouldn't have put the same chips in both, but keeping the MBA stuck on Broadwell allows for this now.

What do you guys think about the USB 3.1 in the new MacBook? I think they should have put TB3 support even if the MacBook is not a "Pro" laptop. It would have been nice to be able to connect it to eGPUs and multiple 4K displays (or 5K). At least it can do 4K60p now with USB 3.1.

There's a difference between speculating about the removal of dGPUs and "hating" them or wishing they might not be included.

There are some drawbacks to dGPUs, including added points of failure and power consumption. Those who are speculating about the removal of dGPUs think Apple might feel the P580 is good enough that the benefits of a dGPU aren't big enough to justify the cost.

That being said, if Apple were to find a way to add Polaris to the highest end MBP I don't think anyone would complain. Either you have the option of a fairly decent dGPU in your MBP or, if you don't see the need, at the very least that means there is one configuration more expensive than yours. It's a win-win for everyone.

Unless of course Apple delays the MBP further to wait for Polaris GPUs... Then you might find some people upset at their inclusion.

Apple offers 2 options.
1) With dGPU
and
2) With a compromised design accounting for a dGPU that is not included

Option 2 could have a thinner/lighter design with more efficient heat dissipation. That is why people here don't want a dGPU.

yes Option 2 it will be nice if it will not get hot under full load. i wish for no dGPU from this stand point, for even greater experience. Maybe even silent , but if they cannot reduce the heat or loudness from today standards i wish for polaris option

Great, new MB.
I don't give a f*ck, give us the Pro Apple!

Then, candid question here:
2) With a compromised design accounting for a dGPU that is not included
If the MBP is designed for handling a dGPU, won't its cooling system better without it?
I genuinely don't understand.
