That is actually interesting topic to play a devil advocate. Like many of you, i'm waiting here for a while already. And everytime it seems like only 2-3 month's more.
So my questions is why do we wait ? I'm not really experienced in mac world(my wife owns air and pretty happy with it). Can somebody, who understands situation explain me this:
1. Does current version of MBP\rMPB has any know flaws\issues which we expect to be fixed ?
2. What is expected performance boost from skylake compare to current cpu's ?
3. Do we have any strong rumors about new features which should come with update ?

2015 13" MBP Base CPU
i5-5257U 4375

(Likely) 2016 13" MBP Base CPU
i5-6267U 5061

15% increase

The 13" doesn't make sense with the new MacBook released this week. iGPU may save this update, at least for the quad core, I don't care about the dual core. I owned the 13" Pro and 12" and they perform similar. Going back to 15". The only laptop from Apple that makes sense. With the GHz race over, and the performance gains slowing done, you may have a fully speced MacBook Pro 15" for a very long time without it feeling outdated. On the other side, some bad thermal design may kill the esteem from being a first generation owner.

I know you are right ... but regardless of technological advances, I really do believe that the overall quality did suffer.
By the way, I also own a 2011 17" MacBookPro which I LOVE for its screen size.

It is heavy as hell but still beautifully built, no jiggly ports, no damaged display coating.
It also runs cooler because of all the material.

But yes, you ARE correct, HOWEVER a modern Skylake 17" Pro with all the ports would have SOME buyers.
A good 15" will have to do, but I don't have high hopes regarding the quality.

PS: TrueTone display for photo or video editing ... no way ... I bet Apple will sell it to us like the best invention for Laptops.

Yeah I really dont understand why people got excited about true tone. Its just autocalibrarion...thats really bad for editing videos and photos. I think its just Apples way of saving their ass from customers who return endlessly to get the Samsung panels (which are more whiter) instead of the yellow LG panels.

Finally I will feel the milliseconds...

And with the thinness and weaker thermal design you may get this ...

I suspect the new MBPro will take the design cues from the MacBook and we'll see a super skinny 14" device. But that's total speculation. I was waiting but just picked up a refurbished 13" that was on sale. It's refurbished and on sale so a fair bit cheaper than the starting point of the new MB Pro will be I suspect, though I don't know for sure. So for me, the cost savings on the refurb outweigh the shiny factor of the new laptops, whenever they arrive. There is always something new coming. Sometimes it's worth waiting, sometimes it's not.

There are some people who want to always have the latest gear, I'm not in that category (though I'm certainly not knocking those who choose that).

I am just winding down my 2007 iMac to replace with this MB Pro. It'll be a generation old in May most likely, but that doesn't bother me. My iMac has been multiple generations old for many years and didn't suddenly stop working when the new one came out.

Smart, only 2.9501% difference

I made the right decision, got a very good discount.

Anyone waiting for the new MBP, should wait only if they are in for design changes and battery life,Others should purchase as soon as they find a good deal on MBP.

On a sad note, I waited for around 14+ months only to purchase soon to be older model

If Core m5-6Y54 perform for you simillar to i5-5257u then probably 4 core skylake in new macbook pro 15 will perform similar to i5-5257u for you.

On november i was literally about to click on the order button for a maxedout 15" mbp, but, i stumbled upon this thread and thought "ok i'll wait until january."
i'm still waiting... Thanks guys

Newer architecture and 0.1 GHz faster but lower score? How can that be?
It's the new way, newer yet crappier! Don't you know?
C'mon, desktop skylake benchmarks are so old and it wasn't secret that boost over haswell archiceture is not impresive and you guys thought that mobile version that apple use in new macbook pro will be a different story?

You guys are getting a little too negative around here. Skylake is a totally reasonable upgrade over Haswell. You have to remember that Intel is putting most of their effort, especially in the mobile chips, into graphics and power consumption.

The iGPUs in skylake will mop the floor with iGPUs in Haswell. So much so, that many laptops that formally would have dGPUs can now do with just the iGPU. Computers that had only iGPUs before are getting around 1hr extra batter life comparing skylake to broadwell. Imagine the battery life gains for anyone actually engaging the dGPU on a haswell machine if what they are doing could now be done on the iGPU...

I own a late 2013 iMac 27". Bought it to design an online magazine using Adobe CC... Magazine was not successful so I bought some udemy courses in Xcode and swift. Built and published my first app on the App Store using the tutorials. Oddly, made enough money in 6 months to purchase a MacBook Pro to take to work so I can program during down time. Never owned a MacBook and want to wait for the updated one... The current one is perfectly fine for my needs... But I figured (or conditioned) I could wait for the new one and not be all jelly.

Waiting for the new MBP is almost better than actually buying a new Mac!
sure for me, i can't afford a new one, maybe when i get a decent job... please help me not to get an xps :D

Yup, I've saved a sh*t load of cash from not upgrading yet and when its finally released maybe I should just wait for an Update of the Update a few months after that.
sure! you'll never want to go with the first iteration after a redesign, are you crazy? it'll be plagued by low quality control, all sorts of hardware issues, better be patient for another year or two :p

I wonder what is faster hd 540 or hd 550
And what the 13" will have

Intel Iris Graphics 540 48 2+3e 64MB U i7-6650U
i5-6260U
Intel Iris Graphics 550 48 2+3e 64MB U i7-6567U
i3-6167U

So much this.
Skylake was always announced as huge improvement for the graphics and power saving, not for CPU performance.
I wouldn't worry so much about it.

And for those worrying also about the MBP not coming on WWDC: back in october, we didn't have rumor at all.
Now we have still few rumors, but they are all trustable and agree that new MBP are shortly coming.
And WWDC is the best event Apple could present such new products.
I'm not worried about it.

3. Do we have any strong rumors about new features which should come with update ?
Dunno why everyone else is waiting but I got to have TB3. I'm the same guy who uses bulky oversized expresscard adapters to eek out a little more performance so having extra io to increase the longevity is a must. The 2015 rMBP is fine if someone doesn't need/want that kind of flexibility but, seeing all the hot new gear coming out for TB3 (native eGPU, mega raids, etc) and USB-C (docks, etc), I refuse to buy one without it. TB2 works great and is fine but as far as I can tell, there is no way to connect TB3 devices to TB2. A TB3 port&adapter can drive a TB2 device. Plus with all the PC oems getting into the TB3/USB-C game there are lots of USB-C/TB3 devices available, for instance Dell has their docking station which should work on a Mac as well.

Relax everyone i'm not saying we need a MBP with 4 USB-c ports and no USB-A ports, i'm saying we need atleast 2 USB-C/TB3 ports period, which should happen since they can just swap the TB2 ports. I don't care what else goes on there, hell we can bring FW800 back (will never happen) for all I care as long as it cozies up next to a TB3 port.

I wrote about cpu speed. Yes, gpu power will increase significantly for igpu but current macbook pro users with igpu configuration probalby don't care much about gpu speed :)
