I feel like a lot of people will be let down when the new MacBook Pro is announced. From a business point of view it would be a financially bad idea for Apple to go all out.

Apple will give the 'pro' consumer just enough to be happy, but not fully satisfied. A company HAS to keep you wanting more.

Just looking over recent Apple releases it's an obvious trend I have noticed. The wish threads get about half of what they expect, aren't satisfied, and then have to upgrade to get what they originally wanted with the next upgrade.

The quality will be top notch, but I wouldn't have sky high expectations that it will totally blow you away with specs/features.

Could also coincide with back to school programs, making a new MBP ALOT more affordable to students...

That's just a smart business decision. You offer your products at a discount to young people and when they are older they will buy them again or order them for their companies or similar.

It has nothing to do with Apple being "good" or "generous".

Get space grey 15" MBP (probably everything maxed out, but without dGPU)
Skip iPhone 7

Good ideas indeed. I already skipped the 6S and will also skip the 7 if Apple continues the design and the pricing stays at current levels. I bought a lot of products, but starting to look elsewhere.

yes it seems the iphone 7 will be a huge let down and a huge financial problem for apple, but the iphone 8 could be the opposite

Based on what man?

It's somewhat incredible to me that people state opinion, which turns (within the SAME thread) into a rumour, which is then repeated by other people (again in the SAME THREAD) as rumour bordering on certain fact.

We know nothing about the iPhone7 :/

Plans for 2016:

Sell iPad Air
Get space grey 12" MacBook (not sure about which processor option to choose)
Get space grey 15" MBP (probably everything maxed out, but without dGPU)
Skip iPhone 7

I wish I could do the macbook and macbook pro thing. One for casual and one for heavy duty.

...

Meanwhile, I'm coming from a late 2013 mbp...

I don't think that makes sense with computers. If Apple makes people want more than they offer, I don't think many of them will be like "oh well, next year's update will be better, in the meantime my 2011 Air has to be enough". 1) It's not good for Apple to sell less because people decide to wait, and 2) some of them will inevitably move to Windows.

Having said that... I've said a long time ago Apple are turning into a fashion brand, and now I've seen more posts agreeing with me. I feel that the selling point of rMB is "this is so pretty and thin and I can get it in pink!" and not actual comfort of use (although of course for many it will be a great laptop). There is no reason for iMacs to be as thin as they are. At least rMB has no fan and a great screen. I'm half expecting MBP to be neglected, same as Mac Pro, and a 14" rMB to be introduced instead in June. Starting at €1899 or something ridiculous like that. If you want a Mac, you better be a 1%-er.

Am I the only one around here that doesn't want new rMBPs available in multiple colours? It makes sense for iOS devices, and maybe even the MacBook, but a Pro machine (with many different spec options) shouldn't be paraded around in gold or rose gold. I can also see it becoming a logistical issue, having to keep in stock the many spec options in each of the colours. Surely some of you agree with me?

As a developer I can only say that the incorporation of bash and the ubuntu linux subsytem into Windows 10 is a bit of a game changer for myself and the other developers I know. Sure - there was always cygwin, but that was a bit of a hack.

That being the case, for me Apple really do have to come out with something competitive to the dell xps 13. A bezeless 14 inch display with one or more usb c ports would be a start.

Fully agree. As long as the only pro colour is black :p

The MacBook delivers full OS X in the formfactor of an iPad, allthough it's a bit overpriced.
It's just for basic usage, so it should last several years if the battery is staying strong, I couldn't justify the cost for a secondary notebook every 1 or 2 years, too.

What's wrong with your 2013 MBP? It's still a very capable machine, if you are upgrading it's not for raw CPU power.
My rMBP is the first generation basemodel, the 8 GB RAM have become a huge bottleneck for me, battery isn't great either and the hinge doesn't feel trustworthy anymore.
My only fear is that next generation MBP is going to sacrifice to much performance and battery life for thinness.

@color discussion:
I would be fine with today's color, but if I had to choose, I would go with space gray.

you never learn nothing from the past? every big rumour that is repeated almost every time it is the TRUTH ? apple in china cannot make anything safe from outside world. I bet with you my house, it will have almost same design, a10, 2 gb ram, no audio port, no oled. And i bet that iphone 8 will be a major iphone for the 10 years iphone anniversary with oled, wireless charging (on area not on a pad) a bigger change in design, smaller bezels ! i already won a bet with someone here that he was told me the macbook second gen can have a 300$ price drop like the original air. But i told him 0-100$ .

What's wrong with your 2013 MBP?

It died back in January. Unfortunately, I couldn't bring myself spend another $2,500 on nearly the same laptop. Not when I had assumed the refresh would be out in a few months. I was wrong, now it looks like a redesign and summer release. So here I am, waiting.

Currently that feature is extremely raw and I wonder how much resources they are/will be dedicating to it. I tried using it and it feels clunky, it's contained inside it's own filesystem so it's kind of a pain to reach in/out and use files from each other's filesystem.

On the flip side, Visual Studio Code on Mac is quite mature now and seems to be pretty functional as a C# dev environment based on my limited use. That will only improve over time as people build extensions and .NET solidifies itself as cross platform. Plus everything runs on the same filesystem which I prefer.

I think it would make sense if instead the Xeons were used.

Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1515M v5 (8M Cache, 2.80 GHz, up to 3.7 GHz) TRAY: $489.00
Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1545M v5 (8M Cache, 2.90 GHz, up to 3.8 GHz) TRAY: $679.00
Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1575M v5 (8M Cache, 3.00 GHz, up to 3.9 GHz) TRAY: $1207.00

Intel® Core™ i7-6770HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz) TRAY: $434.00
Intel® Core™ i7-6870HQ Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.60 GHz) TRAY: $434.00
Intel® Core™ i7-6970HQ Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.70 GHz) TRAY: $623.00

The prices are not that different, except for the 1575M. So perhaps only 2 CPU options would be offered. The 1545M is also a nice performance improvement over the 4870HQ

yea that would make more sense since are more powerful at the same 45W
[doublepost=1461428852][/doublepost]i mean they can make base config the i7-677HQ and the high config with intel xeon E3-1515M v5 and both CTO with xeon e3-1545M v5

While I agree it is still raw, I disagree that it is clunky. In terms of getting to the windows file system - what could be easier than

>cd /mnt/c

I can download a text file in windows, go to the bash command line, parse it with sed or awk, then switch back to windows explorer and import it into my database. What could be simplier?

To be honest I'm impressed with it so far. It already is more advanced than OS X in some ways. For example, you've got a proper package manager built in. I can apt-get install straight away, while on the mac I need to install install brew.

Why does it matter to you what color someone else's notebook is? Get the color you want and move on. Also if it isn't an issue for the MacBook and the iOS lines, I doubt it will be for the MacBook Pro.

9 to 5 Mac, which spotted the DigiTimes report, also notes that these new MacBooks are rumoured to be running with just a pair of USB Type-C ports, one on each side, and no other ports. They will be offered in colors including gold and rose gold.

I knew they were going to have only 2 USB-C ports, but only that?! Oh well, whatever. The people on the forums will go CRAZY, particularly about the lack of a headphone jack if the rumor is true.

Trying to think of a reason why they'd do this. Touchscreens are no option, OSX isn't optimized for that, unless the next version is. Then again, a touchscreen would make it look like some kind of iPad/Mac mix, something Tim Cook swore not to release.

But hey, maybe it'll be something stunning! (and, of course, available in Rose Go... errr Pink ;))
