Sorry, didn't notice them.
This is the TDP of the current AMD Radeon R9 370X (47 W)of the MBP
and this is the TDP of the previous GPU, the Nvidia GT750M (35-40 W).
So of course it depends on Apple, but I'll lightly dare to say that they could fit...

But then, if Apple (and our beloved Jony) decide to shrink the Pro and make it thinner, I don't know how it's gonna handle that TDP.
Improved fans?
AFAIK only ~35W TDP is available for the dGPU so both AMD and NVIDIA you've mentioned were configured TDP-down to 35W.

Whoa... and I thought the Mac Pro thread was large o_O

Yup. Thread is way too long for no info, and now a good reason to stop looking at it until June ;) Of course one has to look at one of the MacMini threads (The new Mac mini is almost certainly coming) speaking of a another long thread

2) The ports!! I still heavily rely on regular-USB, and it would suck to have something like just 2 USB-C ports. Like... not compatible with 99% of the peripherals that I have and that my colleagues have (not considering adaptors).
I don't know you guys, but here in Italy we live in the present... and our present is regular USB all the way.
as a fellow Italian i may add: basically all presentation rooms i've come across with, in universities, companies and so on, rely on a VGA cable to connect to a projector.
after VGA we had several new standards, but let's face reality, if you want to accomodate every possible user, you'd better stick with the oldest connector/protocol, because there's no such thing as "forward compatibility".
(also, projectors last for years, one cannot be an a$$ and expect the world to upgrade all appliances according to his/her new laptop).
then, everyone i know who regularly holds presentations carries an adapter to vga, no big deal at all.

Even today we have dvd or cd , but we can live with out them easily,so you will adapt for sure for only usb-c thunderbolt 3 ports

I get your point, I could just solve everything with an adaptor or two....
But why on earth shouldn't I buy the current mbpro then?
To fight Apple because they sell old hardware for premium price?

As pegamoos was saying, another issue is the compatibility with old VGA projectors. I teach in high school, and believe me, schools have old tech, because there are no money to upgrade.

Would USB-C allow me to connect to old VGA projector cables?
Wow, if that's not possible, I will definitely buy the current model.

But Apple does have a strong refurb store full of old(er) tech. At some point, you would have to expect new Macs to stop supporting VGA.

It could be.
Honestly I don't know for sure, I'm only referring to the TDP quoted by those sites.

I couldn't agree more with you.
There are really still a lot of devices out there using "old" interface, and most of all universities.
Getting rid off them just for the sake of 3 mm thinness, doesn't sound useful to me.

Tried to buy a current model with no luck.
Cant find 13" pro with 16gb memory, which is in stock or will be shipped before May. That is disappointing :(

Wait. I just checked rMBP availability in the Netherlands and the 16 GB model is indeed shipped in May. Does that hint at a refresh (like rMB did) or is it just because so few people buy anything else than the base models?

Guys, I've been part of this thread since like.... september or so, checking regularly for rumors and such.
I was hoping some of you would help me make a choice, since I've been wondering if it's really worth for me waiting for the next mbpro iteration... or if it's just plain stupid!

I was thinking today of a few good reasons why I should buy the current model instead:

1) I'm on a 2009 13'' macbook pro, so FOR ME the increase in performance will be HUGE. It's gonna be so big that Skylake won't make that big of a difference.
Plus, I don't need THE BEST performance, since my main usage is browsing/music/airplay/office suite.
Why the macbook pro and not the air? Because I feel like it would be fast and "relevant" for a longer time, I just don't want to change computer every 3 years.

3) The screen would be such a huge improvement, I'm excited about 15''/retina display. Again, I don't think that the next macbook pro will see an improvement that I am gonna notice on top of the 2009 --> 2015 macbook pro improvement.

So... the 2015 would be a huge leap forward for me, and still keeps the ports that I use everyday... More than enough power as well.
Why should I bother waiting, when I could be stuck with a USB-C only device that would probably fit less of my needs?
And... if the new comes out, will I still be able to buy the current one? (consider that I'd put a 1TB hdd for sure)
Would it be cheaper and easy to find?

Why not wait till the new rMBPs come out. Have a look at them and then decide for yourself. Anyways at this point, June isnt too far away. And if you dont like
the new rMBPs, you can get the 2015 ones for cheaper as theyre gonna slash their prices.

You are right, but again i wouldnt go with apple world if there is no money. I know i spend in 2 years around 10.000$ and update all my devices, with all news and new tech and new accesories required for my needs.
Again you have to adapt for yor needs and places. But i think there are adapters usb-c to vga?

Guys I bought a macbook 12" 2015 model today from someone on craigslist. everything seemed to be working fine but then when I got home it was icloud locked, are there any ways to contact the original owner to give them back their laptop?
I think the owner connected to icloud and locked your mac, and maybe did a full erased. When you bought it wasnt a freash install on it?

Shipping times across the MacBook line here in Norway are as follows for base models:
MacBook: 28th of April - 2nd of May
Pro and Air: 28th of April - 6th of May

Don't think that means anything.

Again, it's not just spending a whole bunch of money to upgrade my gear (which anyway I consider irresponsible on many levels, from a money perspective to an environmental perspective... My stuff still works great), but everyone around me (including public institutions) would have to follow as well...!
Labeling this as wishful thinking would be an understatement. I find it hard to buy a computer today (or in june) and not being able to use its full potential for 2-3 years, just because well, the world does not do what Apple wants it to do...
I hope I'm getting my message across... Still debati g what to do, although waiting a bit more seems the most reasonable thing to do.

If apple dont get rid of the floppy or cd rom or usb no one will do. But keep your gear for another 2-3 years because after apple many will adopt the new standard.

I finally registered, and I'm joining the wait. Apple better bring something good to the table, 2 years without a real MBP update is crazy....

Damn, 13" 2015 256gb for $1200 at Best Buy .. that's very tempting

I wonder what the 2016 MBP will bring that the 2015 doesn't already have .. besides .5lb less weight?
