the big problem for apple for their ecosystem and easy for users is to figure out what they do with if they remove the 3.5 jack and make a lightning headphones, what is happening with the mac? we shouldn't be forced to travel with 2 headphones 1 for the iPhone and 1 for the mac. so they must include a lightning port into the mac lineup or thing something else

That's the problem. They should eliminate the 3.5mm when it makes sense. Right now it does not make sense. Obviously Apple can do what they want but I think it's irresponsible as a successful business that customers depend on, to all of a sudden in September announce "hey we eliminated the 3.5 jack, now you can use lightning/wireless headphones". Now everyone can travel with two pairs of headphones. We are a green company, that develops tons of new adapters made out of plastic and new headphones made out of plastic. Plastic is good. We are green.

ok if they are willing to remove the port, they need at WWDC the new mac products too all have lightning port for charging (?slow?) and headphones and eliminate the 3.5mm jack from there too. But im guessing will not be the case since the new updated 12" Macbook still has it

These last 4 pages about the ports have been very interesting. I enjoy reading these meaningful discussions. I'd like to thank everyone who participated in the discussions providing the insightful arguments and I look forward to continue reading this thread until the new MacBooks are released. /s

Judging by iPad they might release a 14" rMB and call it "Pro".
Thats when I jump ship.

I have a feeling that the glowing logo and the MagSafe port will remain on the new MacBooks. Itll differentiate it from the MacBook. I think we might see a MagSafe-Smart Connector concoction. And the glowing logo will help differntiate the Pro from the rM . Cause the rMB feels and looks like an idevice running OSX. Even the way it was packaged with frosty plastic.

since the ipad pro get a charging dock accessory through the smart connector that means the rumours about MBP with smart connector for charging get become a real thing

the mag safe will be removed in favour of smart connector. until today we didn't known that can charge a big battery the ipad pro for example. So its clear what Apple is doing with the smart connector

I'm excited for that then. They dont even have to mill out a port. It can just be on the side. Blessed if the smart connector happens.

I think it may even replace the lightning port sometime in the future.

Hahahahaha here we go....So it's happening. :p
This will surely lit the thread a little bit.

EDIT: I didn't know the 6.35mm plug has been around since 1878, it's little brother (3.5mm) since the 1960s!! WTH
I knew they were old, but not THAT old.

Damn you fool, now Oppenheim will bother us for the next 200 pages till WWDC saying "See?! I was right!!1!"
Luckily, given the time Apple & Intel needs to implement the news, we won't see them for a while, just enough to have more USB-C devices around...

This isnt even at proposal yet, so this is a atleast a year or two out even in the best case.

Im personally all for getting rid of 3.5mm jacks. But there must be two things done first:
1. A global standard for the alternative exists (lightning is very far from a global standard)
2. The industry must support widespread adoption within ~6 months of the first introduction.

Neither of those are primed to happen now, so Apple releasing a MBP without a 3.5 jack would be the very wrong decision.

Luckily, Apple is well aware they have a large following that use their MBP's for audio work, and they wont take 3.5mm away anytime soon. Many multi-thousand dollar audio setups still rely on that jack. I see 3.5mm lasting on the MBP line for many years to come, even once the rest of the industry moves on, for this exact reason.

People saying the MBP will drop it are seriously in their own little delusional world.

Hahahaha sorry about that, I had forgotten about the fuhrer. After reading the article, it doesn't sound that bad really. I'm looking forward to it.
On the bright side, this may cause some discussion. This thread was getting repetitive.

I find the bit about industry showing a strong desire to move quite funny, given that Apple is the only major player that is supposedly thinking of such a move. Although LeEco did release phones without audio jacks, but then again no one really cares about them so that's kinda moot. But I mean a multi purpose port is exactly what's needed as it would give more flexibility in general, however getting the same choice of the supporting peripherals would be a challenge though.

they can resolve both of them if apple will put lightning to the mac line up ! apple dont care about the others, they like for you to be in their osx ios ecosystem

Why should you use a Lightning port instead of USB-C?
There is no other reason than screwing over your customers with overpriced accessories and cables.

USB-C is superior compared to Lightning in every aspect.

imo, releasing an iphone with lightning earphones is silly, since it won't work on their own laptop (i forgot to say, lightning on a laptop is also silly, always imo).
the day they will remove the 3.5mm from the iphone, it should come with bluetooth earphones.
and, if you are afraid of lossy quality, there will be the usb-c option.
(but at that point i would like to have usb-c on iphones.. the thing gets more complicated, a THICKER port?!? omg, Ive, what's happened to you!?!)

once again i drifted to dreamland, damn.

Lightning female connector on Bluetooth headphones.
USB-C male to lightning male cable connects and charges them. (Also a USB-A to lightning male cable ala iPhone cables).

Maybe only the USB-C connection does pass through audio while plugged in and charging.

Using Lightning which is proprietary to Apple means Apple can be gatekeeper through the Made For program.

No apologies.... I am still hoping this thread overtakes the "I just bought a..." thread.... Keep stirring the pot...

and yeah... I'll admit these might be nice.

Nailed it!

Just adding my 6% peanut gallery comment.

I will think up something pertinent to say later.

Damn where are the real rumors? What if there isn't come out anything at WWDC?

Actually, the only rumors I've heard regarding the actual release date have been September/October... -_-

Everyone, including me, just thinks that the new Macbooks will make their debut at WWDC because any later seems like madness.

if they do remove the jack and still having lightning as their charging and headphone jack into the iphone 7, that mean they will adopt that into the mac too...the iphone 7 should lead us where apple is heading with this

What rumors have said September/October?

Think the Digitimes rumour said new MacBooks wouldn't be ready for WWDC, if that is correct could they be announced at the iPhone 7 event in September? You would imagine they wouldn't announce a completely redesigned Macbook Pro via press release.

no rumor said September or October

Haha whoops, I don't know why I conflate the third quarter with September/October. I should have just said third quarter (July-September).

But yeah, almost all the recent rumors (mentioning anything about release) that I've read on digitimes or 9to5mac talk about third quarter. Of course I take those with a grain of salt because, like I said, I think they'll be announced at WWDC.

If they aren't I think I may do something rash like throw a box of kittens off of a skyscraper or buy a Dell.

Edit:
Think the Digitimes rumour said new MacBooks wouldn't be ready for WWDC
Yes, there was something like this as well ^^^^

Link? Be ready for wwdc to be release that day? Maybe they will be introduced at wwdc and shipped a week month later

Did anyone notice the finance conference call, Mac inventory sitting at "4-5 weeks" as projected.

Possible to start seeing retail partner stock dwindling soon?
