Nightmare why? I can see tons of benefits, beside the obvious missing of the various useful counterparts at this point in time but that will change obviously.

USB-C has been a nightmare on my new XPS 15. I really hope Apple leaves a TB2 or MDP port on the new MBP.

Care to divulge how it has been a nightmare?

I should clarify part of the problem is probably Dell's adaptation of USB-C/TB3, but while It's great in theory, the support for it just isn't there IMO. I have a tons of issues running displays over TB3 with the USB-C adapters available. The only viable TB3 dock out there is the Dell one, and it has a ton of firmware problems. Hopefully there will be more support on the market for Apple.

Is that with the latest PC BIOS and Thunderbolt drivers from Dell?

Don't be rude :) I understand why new users ask for over-asked questions in a thread of 410 pages...
Also, if I had to make a percentage of the contents in this thread, that would be:

- 30% users that ask "When is the MBP coming?"
- 30% users that ask "What CPU will it use?"
- 10% users that ask "What about Kaby Lake?"
- 6% memes
- 5% Oppenheim praising a MBP without ports o_O
- 5% debate about dGPU / iGPU
- 4% me getting drunk
- 3% live commentary of the March Event
- 1% legit rumors

and the remaining 6% unimportant posts.

:D

OMG after silently following this thread for a month or more, you made me laugh so hard I had to reset my password to thank you.

So...thanks!

Actually im fine with 1standard usb3 port. I dont connect anything beside usb thumb drives and sd cards to my Macbook. So if they're planning to save space on ports, get rid of HDMI, the 2 TB ports and remove the headphone jack while you're at it :)

because you run windows and bios oem. we all know there are or was a ton of issues with sofware and drivers and ports bios. Apple is waiting for a polish one with no issues

Yuuuuup. If you go on Dell's reddit, you can see all the problems people are having with the TB3 port (particularly with many displays being unstable). I got the XPS for free from work while I wait for the MBP so am not too worried. I've been able to get my monitor stable at 4k/30hz over the build in HDMI port, which is only HDMI [1.4?] and doesn't support 60hz :(

so i guess they can upgrade both 21.5" with new cpu/gpu/ram/ports and even the 27" with new dGPU/ram and ports

The general problem of Apple's USB-C introduction is the missing continuity.
Early 2015: New MacBook with just one USB-C port, advertising USB-C as the future.

One year later:
Some USB-C chargers.
USB-C to Lightning cable.
USB-C service port on Apple TV, but it's just the service port, not usable for the customer.

After the MacBook, they shouldn't have released one single device without USB-C, even iOS devices.

Whoa I had a lot of notifications, what's is going on here?!
Lemme check them.

edit: done.
Let's answer!
MBP without ports? That's a lie. Please stop it.

USB-C is a far superior connector. Have you ever tried one?

Yes, a legacy USB would destroy the desgin. Not just because of its thickness, but for numerous other reasons which should be obvious to you.

Legacy USB is in the retirement home and will be kicking the bucket soon.

Mine was an overstatement, but you were the one that said "Apple needs to get rids of all the ports! No USB-A! No 3.5 jack! No SD Card! No MagSafe! Just USB-C for the love of future!".
Don't forget it.
I've never used a USB-C connector.
Guess why?
Because no-one of my devices use it.

And you are avoiding my questions as always. Show me the numerous other reasons of the disaster caused by USB-A.
Burden of proof is yours.

You're not giving yourself enough credit there :p

Thanks! :D
I think I should get drunk more often and post more kittens pics.

You're welcome my dear.
This thread sometimes require a little bit of fun.

Anyway, talking again about USB-C...
Why should I bought something like this
41I%2Bn0i2UwL._SX425_.jpg

for 50 euros more, when I'm already paying loads of money for a professional machine?! o_O
For me, that make no sense.

so? what do you think? anything constructive?

Not so much, unfortunately..

the future is no dvd rom...and we still have but that doesnt mean all of us didnt move on, with a lot of download content over the internet and so on. There are a lot of usb-c accessories and adapters and storage and in near future thanks to Tb3 a lot of 4k displays

No one says having USB-C on a possible new Macbook Pro is a stupid choice. Most people simply agree that it's stupid to have ONLY USB-C as 98% (probably closer to 99,5%) of all current devices feature USB-A type connectors at this point in time.

But why?
Micro USB sucks, but with USB-C there is a very small, versatile connector which would fit on iPhones and iPads without any problem. One connector for everything, as it was advertised.

Lightning is using the USB protocol anyway, so it's just changing the connector to an universal standard.

Btw:
If the rumors of removing the audiojack are true, USB-C would be a far better solution than lightning. With more and more devices of other manufacturers using USB-C we could buy USB-C headphones without worrying about connectivity outside the Apple universe.

Even worse - with the exception of the big iPad Pro, it's only running USB2 speeds. Try upload a 4k video. Time for a coffee.

But why?

because replacing your professional camera and photo printers (or other pro equipment, you get the 'picture') (sorry) is a lot more than 50 euros. But some folks are locked into the Apple ecosystem, so the only alternative is go without a Skylake MBP or use that ... thing you've pictured up above.

I had a rMB for a year, my 2 year old spilled water on it two weeks ago. Ruined. But before it was ruined, I had zero problems utilizing the machine. I would have liked to have been able to use a USB stick once or twice, but I just threw stuff up on dropbox instead...no issues at all. BUT, I don't do a lot of professional work that requires extra hardware. If Apple releases a USB-C only MBP, I think it will come as a surprise to many.

I don't think they will. How long did it take them to lose Firewire ports of MBPs?

3.5mm jack
one usb-A port
sd card slot
two tb-enabled usb-c port

listed from what i'd use most to the least. (except for charging purpose).
for the sake of consistency they'll ditch magsafe, sad, but we'll adapt to it. reassurance from 1 full-day charge will try to mitigate the angry audience.

claim that usb-a is too thick is nonsense.

2012.
it's there on my 2010pro, never used it once.

i hope it's clear that i just talk about MY personal experience and use, i am of no statistical value here, instead i'd be nice to know the experience of you all with ports, what do you use and what for.
please share with us, i'm curious.

Maybe by software, but not physically.

And you don't convinced me about how it would ruin the design.
4 mm thickness is really a disaster?

What about the percentage of people who are in a Stockholm syndrome situation with this thread, and secretly don't want any announcement at WWDC - just to see the meltdown? (no I really don't want that.. please Tim don't do that to us) ;)

Big surprise that forthcoming technology is a good fit for a top of the line product?
The way you think they should never release anything as there will be something better in the coming months or years.

Actually I was thinking somethin else. Theres a possibility of Apple releasing a 14" or 16" variant of the rMB this WWDC and the updating the Pros next year.
If not, WWDC is going to be major motion picture event...2-3 hours.

Its always been apple vs rest of the world
But yes with iphone 7 standard lightning headphones they need to put in every mac a lightning port other wise we are carry 2 headphone jacks??

the big problem for apple for their ecosystem and easy for users is to figure out what they do with if they remove the 3.5 jack and make a lightning headphones, what is happening with the mac? we shouldn't be forced to travel with 2 headphones 1 for the iPhone and 1 for the mac. so they must include a lightning port into the mac lineup or thing something else
