Hmmmm that's pretty encouraging... If you don't mind me asking one more question, how do you find your other Apple devices (assuming you own an iPhone) fit within the work flow? Do you ever miss ios-osx only features?

I do have an iPhone and luckily I am not attached to iOS or OS X. I know many here depend on certain apps, but thankfully the Windows transition for me is not complicated at all.

My only real concern is the privacy or lack there of that comes with Windows 10. The OS is great in my opinion and so is the XPS. It's a compromise I am willing to make.

Hmm thanks for the answers! I've been contemplating the XPS my self but like you the privacy issues and lack of safari bothers me. I know i could very easily migrate to Firefox or chrome from safari but I like the lightweight feel of it, vs the heaviness of chrome.

As for privacy.... I'm at a crossroads between 'do I really have anything to hide in a world where they probably know everything about me already any ways?' And 'there's still hope in saving basic privacy and therefore it's a matter of principle'. But like you and many others have said, Apple no longer seems like a cost-efficient purchase even when considering the longevity of its products.

xps 15 we are in the same boat, bought the xps 15 4 weeks ago put in a Samsung m.2 ssd SM951 512GB and ! a Samsung evo 950 sata III ssd 2TB ( had both from old Mac Pro 5.1 experiments ), put in 32gb memory ( $130 ) and an Intel Wifi 8260 ($ 25)
windows 10 pro installed on the m.2 ssd runs flawlessy, 4k uhd crisp sharp, no problems in scaling and it is a lot of fun to resize using the touch screen, office 2016 is much better than the mac version ( multi windows onenote ...),
can connect it to a 4k tv 60hz hdmi 2.0 via the new Club3D CAC-1504 Adapter (usb-c to hdmi2.0), now waiting for the usb-c to displayport 1.2 cabel

ubuntu 16.04 installed on the sata III ssd run good but there are some problems with the "hyperreactivity" of the touch pad while typing, scaling is not as good as on windows 10,

the machine is fast, the fan's are not as disturbing as on my retina macbook pro late 2013 ( i7, 16gb, 1tb ssd ).
on windows virtualbox machines running solaris and ubuntu are fast enough to work with it, scaling and touchpad control are really good

all in all this is a laptop with 32GB main memory and 2.5 TB ssd 'disks' - and it is possible to put in all in all 5 TB ssd memory ( 1TB m.2 ssd, 4 TB sata ssd ) withoud losing the warranty

This confuses me. On one hand, you have people crying over Apple not updating their computers every single year. And then on the other hand, people complain about longevity.

As someone who has never owned an OSX machine, I've mostly been turned away by the price. But now technology is slowing down, and long-lasting products beat out cheaper, more quickly replaced ones. Now, in my opinion, is the best time to buy a Mac. Sure, they're not innovating with gimmicks like 4K and touch screens, but I don't think I want a machine for that anyway.

There are a few reasons I think OSX (now MacOS? Maybe?) fit my needs, which aren't too important here. What is important is that I want a laptop which will last 5 years. I want it to be solidly designed and have the best processor of the current generation, because I don't see processing power growing as much in the next decade as it did in the last five.

Windows vs OSX... Who friggin cares? But I still can't see why people keep buying machines with inferior Skylake processors when the best are right around the corner. Make your laptop last and stop wasting your money on tech. Take a vacation to a foreign country or something instead.

The only reason I want an Apple computer is because I like OS X so much. It's not like I'm so in love with Apple hardware (though they do make the best trackpads). If I could use OS X on another machine I would, but that seems to never really work too well...

radus, Awesome config.

I'm so tired of constantly running out of space. I need 1.5-2 TB.

With 1 TB I'm always on the edge.

what if ... after all the waiting... it turned out to be a piece of crap?

there may be one disadvantage: battery time, but I need laptop to be mobile (not to stay for days in the field) and power outlets everywhere

Well I think even the people who want the latest (i.e. yearly updates) would still want longevity, as my comment was more about build quality than actual long use. I for normally have a 4-5 year cycle and greatly appreciate macs for their build quality which I still believe is incomparable to others in the industry. It doesn't mean that Apple as a company shouldn't do yearly updates to keep their machines onpar with others.

Of course on par can mean a lot of different things and some people have argued that as long as it performs as well, if not better, with comparatively older internals then that satisfies the meaning of on par. Some other obviously believe that it's purely about the internals.

I think some people first turned to macs, and by extension osx, due to its longevity as windows failed to offer a matching solution for years. Now that they have started offering something that comes close-ish, people find themselves bogged down in the apple ecosystem. Atleast that's the story for me, my first mac was because my previous experience with windows machines had been awful, with the sony vaio being the only machine that successfully lasted me 6 years. I'm intrigued by the windows offerings, especially the XPS, but I find my self much comfier in apple's ecosystem. So Windows vs OSX is a very relevant question for many as it would imply that some changes are needed to their daily workflow and lifeflows.

But yeah.. I'm really craving for the nvidias now.... what are you guys' thoughts on the chances of seeing them in the next rMBP?

ssong --> Windows vs OSX
I also had this fear but Windows 10 is much much better ... I was surprised how easy it was to convert.

"long use" after 2.3 years I had to replace the display of my 15" Retina MacBook Pro late 2013 and without Apple Care this would had been a kind of disaster.

The Dell XPS 15 was half the price of the Retina MacBook Pro - so I take the risk by myself. But even if the Display breaks I can re-use the ssd's, the memory and the wifi card..

Just a thought:
What if Apple would replace all ports with 4 USB-C ports and supply every MacBook Pro with a multiport adapter?

A lot of people in here are afraid of/ don't want Apple changing the ports, but would you be happy if you got a free adapter? (not saying this is happening, but if)
I use USB A sometimes, and it would be nice to have an adapter for those times, Apple could use USB-C without me worrying.

Some Apple keynotes ;) Guess they get to do a Take 2 on Apple Music this WWDC.

@Dutchdude99 - They could make an adaptor - but unlikely to be bundled. Getting an adapter/some new cables seems a normal tech price to pay...

so it seems Apple will skip Skylake. it just makes no sense for MBP with Skylake anymore, but who knows? Apple love making old products and selling them as new.. very good example is the newest OLD product - iPhone SE

The appropriate MBP Skylake CPU is barely out in the wild and you proclaim it as old? Haha.

Edit: Seems you still cannot buy 6770HQ in any shop. It's in the NUC tho, but it's not yet released..

It won't happen.
But if Apple will do it, that could be a solution for me.

By the way, where are the rumors, MacRumors?
Please stop with iPhone and Bands.
Give us something about computers.
Please...

Tom, where my slides at?
Hey Shaun?

Just saw the video, (not entirely, too long for me...).
Interesting, but still they didn't say too much about mobile GPU, and power consumption, right?
I still want to believe in Polaris.

...or not. Anyone who can bring me good performances is fine for me.
:D

If it's a TB3 adapter with multiple displayports etc. it could safe you about 200€.
If it's a regular USB-C adapter with one HDMI port and 3 USB-A ports or something in those lines, we are talking about 30€ on Amazon... who cares?
