True, it usually does, but Apple is just phoning it home with OS X these days, so I'm not getting my hopes up for anything. Knowing Apple, they'll probably just add Siri and not much else.

And I bet you can say "hey Siri show me my mouse pointer" as an alternate to shake to make huge pointer.

I know this thread is, like, 4 million posts long... But seriously, every three pages someone comes around not understanding that there are many Skylake variants and the performance versions are only now coming out. Seriously... just... There should be a sticky or something.

Don't post again until you read and UNDERSTAND this:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skylake_(microarchitecture)
I know it is soooo annoying!
Thank You for posting this

The smart cookies over at Anandtech identified that the amount of vram allocatable to iris has changed rather substantially:

Code:
Current: Intel® Core™ i7-4770HQ | Graphics Video Max Memory 2 GB | 2015 rMBP
Future: Intel® Core™ i7-6770HQ | Graphics Video Max Memory 64 GB

If Apple can allocate additional vram they can use thats more of a reason to include additional RAM perhaps in 32 and 64 GB flavors =]
After all 5k display is quite hungry =]

Serban, do you know anything about the dGPU situation in the 15?

If the prototype serban mentioned is correct, .68"-.61" inches for 15" MBP. It would seem unlikely to fit a quad-core CPU and a dGPU. Though Razer did it in a 14" .70" though that had major compromises in battey life, fans, and heat. Its possible apple has done some fancy voo doo. But I think unlikely the 15" will be getting a dGPU now, sorry everyone.

our test protot, are the base model, so not sure if they can include or cant a dgpu. we cant open them to see the space inside
[doublepost=1462730359][/doublepost]PS: 1 of the 3 prototypes for the 13 and 15" but its almost 99% sure that apple already choose this one since in march we heard they lock the design and chasis and ports

not all of them. 2/3

so did the 1 prototype they locked in on, include full size usbA

I think @Serban has access to more than he is letting on...
maybe not, I am having a lot of fun guessing at what serban does. But seems he only has access to external factors / properties. He doesn't seem to have internal details. maybe he works with a company that makes cases for MBPs or creates packaging for the MBPs. something that knowing the dimensions of a product is necesary

Like i said, we don't have the access to the "main table" where the final decisions are made, i learn from Apple that nothing we know here is 100% sure will happen, but 99% Mbp will be at WWDC, not sure that they can ship the next day (since intel had some big issues with the cpu). But it is 100% that new MacBooks are coming but we dont know if these are the final Macs or apple is planing some new ones 4 years from now. Probably at the end of this year we will know an answer .

what do you mean final Macs? or new ones 4 years from now? are you suggesting this is the final redesign? Apple is done making Macs?

The current 15" is 0.71 inches tall, so that means at the rear of the laptop we are at minus 0.03". Less space yes, but they could fit a dGPU in there especially if they use a Polaris part with lower TDP than the old Cape Verde part they have in there now. Also, they could make the display assembly thinner, so there may about the same room for cooling after all.

I think that based on the context, Serban means these are the final design for the new Macs, not the final Macs ever.

Yes, 5-6months after announcement of 13" mbp in oct 2012 we started to see lot of prototypes,so we kind of knew that apple in the next upcoming years wants or at least have in mind a new redesign macs. So, after releasing these, i think if apple wants again a some kind of redesign or new materials etc we will see by the end of the year some prototypes again
This is what i meant.

@Serban
If you had an upcoming Macbook Pro next to a current 2015 model on a desk, would you quickly be able to distinguish the two or do they look very similar?
:)

Again, thanks for all the infos!

how is it possible that Apple prevent us from leaks? wtf, I have been waiting since 2015 October !

you are asking me that knows every inch of this product to be objective, from my personal view yes i can distinguish it easy, but like i said im used to it by now. But we are talking silver current 2015 model with silver upcoming model yes? :) kidding or maybe not. But there even more distinguish in other prototype model that is far more different, but i think it has lower chances

maybe because of the cpu from intel ?!
[doublepost=1462779573][/doublepost]since they aren't in mass production..

Without going off topic here can you comment on the Mac Pro at all? Should be we expect something at WWDC? A new design or just a spec bump?

If Apple is going to release a space grey or a silver edition, it will be really hard to decide which one I will buy. For my taste, silver is already the perfection in combination with the black keyboard. But I also prefer the current look of the new thin macbooks...

BTW, guys, do you prefer the current MacBook Pro keyboard or the new ones - butterfly keyboard?

Some things that I would be interesting in hearing is if the new MacBook Pro will take some of the more distinguishing design features of the MacBook, such as the mirrored Apple logo (instead of an illuminated one) and the all aluminum hinge (instead of the black plastic clutch cover). I would assume that they would have both, but you never know.

@Serban Will their be anything magnetic about the new MacBook Pro? ;)

Hmm...very interesting. Thanks for replying. I guess that means that the illuminated Apple logo in going away. iFor anyone like me who isn't too familiar with the back of the iMac...

@Serban is there anything "out of the ordinary" below the keyboard in the touchpad-area on any of the prototypes? (I'm referring to the weird patent we saw a few days ago).

The current rMBP is nice, but a little 'loose' and not very snappy. The MB keyboard doesn't have enough key travel to be comfortable for most people writing texts/articles/essays.

The keyboard on the new Magic Keyboard is the perfect middle ground and would love to see that in the new rMBP. It doesn't have as much key travel as the rMBP now, but it feels very solid, snappy and consistent.

will they use the MB keyboard on the new rmbp ? hope no !
yes and no

If I had to take a wild guess at what Serbans answer means, the new rMBP will have the butterfly mechanism found in the MB and MagicKeyboard, but will not have the same key travel as the MB. This suggests that the new rMBP keyboard might be the same as the Magic Keyboard.

It makes sense since its the newest keyboard mechanism Apple released.
There haven't been any updates to the Mac line since the butterfly mechanism came out, so Apple hasn't had the opportunity to implement the mechanism across the board.

I've said it before, but now I am even more confident that the new MacBook Pro will have the same keyboard as the Magic Keyboard.

So be ready for a treat at WWDC.
