Why are some people so keen on a high-end graphics card on a laptop?
Man, I need this new MBP to come out yesterday. My old MBP is crashing hard daily now (mostly reboots as result of GPU panic)
Mobile Gaming, Mobile Video Editing,
Maybe performance/W is good but:
1 usually when people play games have plugin laptop
2 over 2000$ laptop and isn't this sad?
https://gameplay.intel.com/GamesSettings/7462/93341/Intel® Core™ i7-6770HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)
The Division 1366x768 almost all settings to low
Rise of Tomb Riader 1280x720 most settings low
Far Cry 4 1280x720 all settings low
Games that are good graphicaly and run well are Metal Gear Solid 5 and GTA5 (but both where on ps3 and xbox360 so engine can adjust well to lower hardware).
1 sure, that's a valid point, but not always. Isn't the purpose of a laptop to be mobile, not connected to power always. And sure most people play games plugged in, because most people don't have an efficient laptop that can play games for long periods of time.
2. And yea those settings are not fun, but those are really intense games.
And compared to what?? say a 970M?
which plays at 1366x768 with settings set to medium.
Tomb Raider also at medium
but that option is easily 3 times more power consumption,
The Razer blade has but I can tell you from personal experience it gets very very hot, like painfully hot, and the fans are incredibly loud. and the battery life was only like 2 hours or so playing a game.
I don't mean to bash on the razer blade (I think its awesome)
or say a 950M?
which plays division, tomb raider, far cry 4, only at lowest settings, 1280x720, and barely making 60fps.
this option is about the same performance or left, and takes up more physical space and twice the power consumption
So this is why Iris 580 is a better option for most people, non-gamers, casual gamers, competitive multiplayer gamers,
and arguably a better option for people who play the most intense games.
Though I think people that want to play extreme end games on high settings are better off getting a desktop. Though I suppose there is still a category of people that want to move from place to place, and plug in their laptop and play extreme end games. In this case a big laptop with 100W+ gpu, would be best for them. Though this is a very small category of people, and it would be a bad move for apple to go after this market, especially since it would take away from the primary audience.
Finally, you mention $2,000 for a laptop without dGPU being sad...
It's not I buy laptops all the time that are other $2,000 and no dGPU. or with GPUs weaker than what we have been discussing.
