yes, but keep in mind that the current model was not at 100% battery health, but still impressive, i hope the new os will not mess things up, but its long time until fall right ?! :)
but from battery life perspective i hope apple choose to release these new MBP with el capitan and not with the new os. I mean if with the new OS will not have same battery life i will keep it with El capitan

Why are some people so keen on a high-end graphics card on a laptop?

Man, I need this new MBP to come out yesterday. My old MBP is crashing hard daily now (mostly reboots as result of GPU panic)

No hate!

I'm not really begging for parts. I think in essence I'm begging for a laptop that is in today's market what the '11/'12 MBPs were in their day...if that makes sense. Something that can legitimately last 4-5 years, and is pretty close to price/performance/design competitive with anything else on the market. Something that can run a simple project in Davinci Resolve (as an example of something on the higher end of the resource usage scale). The impression that I'm getting from you guys is that this is a silly fantasy. I don't see the current MBPs as something I'd spend money on. That does kind of suck. I'm hoping for a little more than a skylake with a decent iGPU.

Me too, no hate.
:)
I also forgot to add one point on my previous post.
In fact, I actually kinda agree with your needs, as I would like too to have a laptop really powerful, especially from the GPU point of view. God I hope Oppenheim would never read our conversation...
But I know how Apple thinks, and how it makes its computers.
At this point I'm resigned with that, and I accept that for having really good performances, I have to pay bucks of money (I also live in Europe, so Apple computers are even more expensive...).
It's all about the compromises you can accept.
:)
Still, I trust in Skylake, and even in AMD Polaris. They'll cost, but they also make the difference.

tl; dr: it sucks to pay 2000$ for a laptop with just an iGPU, but at least the whole thing will be quite powerful.

Oh I wish to see all your faces when they announce the mbp at wwdc but release them this fall!

I can give you a preview of mine:

Sucks compared to what. It's the best in industry in performance per watt
Maybe performance/W is good but:
1 usually when people play games have plugin laptop
2 over 2000$ laptop and isn't this sad?
https://gameplay.intel.com/GamesSettings/7462/93341/Intel® Core™ i7-6770HQ Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.50 GHz)
The Division 1366x768 almost all settings to low
Rise of Tomb Riader 1280x720 most settings low
Far Cry 4 1280x720 all settings low

Games that are good graphicaly and run well are Metal Gear Solid 5 and GTA5 (but both where on ps3 and xbox360 so engine can adjust well to lower hardware).

Perhaps one of the two screen sized MacBook Pros will be able to handle macOS just fine with the included Iris Pro 580? :p

Another Question. Will there be Stylus Support similar to iPad Pro?

Mobile Gaming, Mobile Video Editing,

1 sure, that's a valid point, but not always. Isn't the purpose of a laptop to be mobile, not connected to power always. And sure most people play games plugged in, because most people don't have an efficient laptop that can play games for long periods of time.

2. And yea those settings are not fun, but those are really intense games.
And compared to what?? say a 970M?
which plays at 1366x768 with settings set to medium.
Tomb Raider also at medium

but that option is easily 3 times more power consumption,
The Razer blade has but I can tell you from personal experience it gets very very hot, like painfully hot, and the fans are incredibly loud. and the battery life was only like 2 hours or so playing a game.

I don't mean to bash on the razer blade (I think its awesome)

or say a 950M?
which plays division, tomb raider, far cry 4, only at lowest settings, 1280x720, and barely making 60fps.

this option is about the same performance or left, and takes up more physical space and twice the power consumption

So this is why Iris 580 is a better option for most people, non-gamers, casual gamers, competitive multiplayer gamers,

and arguably a better option for people who play the most intense games.

Though I think people that want to play extreme end games on high settings are better off getting a desktop. Though I suppose there is still a category of people that want to move from place to place, and plug in their laptop and play extreme end games. In this case a big laptop with 100W+ gpu, would be best for them. Though this is a very small category of people, and it would be a bad move for apple to go after this market, especially since it would take away from the primary audience.

Finally, you mention $2,000 for a laptop without dGPU being sad...
It's not I buy laptops all the time that are other $2,000 and no dGPU. or with GPUs weaker than what we have been discussing.

Good to hear! Couldn't find this anywhere but does it have TB3 capability? Is there a Space Grey option?

@Serban
though I may not have bromanced and liked every one of your posts recently, I have thoroughly enjoyed the tidbits and am looking forward to dropping some serious cash in a few months....
I guess in the meantime I will question what life choices have brought me to this point in my life where I anxiously await hardware releases...

Thank you!

The Macbook uses as far as I can tell all off the shelf parts.

You're not very good at telling these things then.

I'm still on an early 2011. It's been great, and still feels like a strong machine, but it lacks retina, and I know it's got limited time left. I've been through 2 batteries, 1 main board (GPU issue), the paint on the palm rest is oxidizing away due to skin oils, and the moshi pad I put over that is wearing away due to friction. I've got a 1tb drive swapped in-place of the DVD drive, an SSD swapped in-place of the primary drive, and upgraded RAM. I'm more than ready for a replacement ... instant buy no matter what they announce.

I was pretty much in the same situation, my 2011 was banged up, dented, erosion on the palm rests, anti-glare display discoloration in spots... then my GPU failed (again — did this last summer too) and just had it shipped away to get a new motherboard, but THIS time they replaced every single exterior part including the display assembly and the whole thing looks brand new. :) Except for being a five year old design that is.

I'm still developing on an early 2009 and it's truckin along strong. I've been through 4 batteries, added two SSD's, and maxed out the RAM, but it's definitely time for a new one.

Makes me laugh seeing people with 2013's complaining that they need the upgrade.

All three of GubbyMan's Serban posts were fake.

Serban's user profile was created January 8, 2013, so the 1983 and 2007 posts were obviously fabrications (not to mention there wasn't much of an internet to post on in 1983!)

The December 11, 2014 post was fake as well; Serban never posted that (you can check for yourself if you go through Serban's posting history).

You are the bringer of truth, the new messiah of the Waiting for Skylake MBP thread. Move over Serban. What would we do without your concise breakdown of the false prophet? Everybody thank NJPT for this revelation.

Haha, I think I might be the only one on this forum with a 2013 MBP who needs to upgrade.

LOL, Edited for clarity:
I didn't mean for this to be a joke, my MBP is literally non-functional:oops:

You're not alone. I needed to upgrade my 2013 to a 2015. Much like my 2015 needs to be upgraded to the 2016. Sure I know nothing about the 2016, but I do know I need it for like Facebook and stuff. I'm a total power user :D

If Apple were to offer a protection plan that delivers 5 years of extended warranty i would not upgrade. Having a laptop with like 800 euros resale value out of warranty just doesn't make me feel comfortable.

So i rather sell and add like 800 for a good spec'd 13 retina and 3 years of warranty through Apple Care.

That's my reason why i need to upgrade - not that it doesn't add anything to this thread :) But so are like 150 pages of USB-C and TB3 arguments :p
