Makes me wonder from the lack of rumors if they'll release the MBP's at WWDC in the same form factor, but in just updated specs. Wouldn't mind honestly - it'd be nice to shave off a pound or so from these machines, but for what they are, and what they could be with Skylake and TB3, that'd be good enough for me.

If they keep the same body we should see battery life improvements for sure. I doubt they keep the same body.

I think I read somewhere there is a potential for a 14" and 16" MBP would be interesting.

I have the same suspicions as you - at too would not mind. However, why wait for WWDC for what would normally constitute a silent update? I suppose they need to talk about TB3 and how this is the fastest MacBook they've ever made (again).

That's my guess as well. Brag about TB3, show some fancy charts of how Skylake is much more superior than Haswell, show the new ports, more battery life, and possibly a better screen?

-26 days and still no "consistent" leak or rumor (sorry @Serban ) whatsoever...
Guys, I'm starting feeling a little bit uncomfortable

What if the reason there haven't been any leaks about new MBPs is because they're going to manufacture them in the US? Humour me for a minute:

Firstly, we know most/all of the early leaks about hardware come from the supply chain. Closer to release we see leaks coming from retailers, but that's usually a few days before at best.

Second, Mac Pros are manufactured in the US, and there were essentially no substantial rumours about them at all before their release at WWDC in 2013.

There was an official release from Apple in June 2012 that a redesigned Mac Pro would be coming in 2013. There was a spec bump to the Mac Pro line shortly after.

All we knew in January 2013 was that the old Mac Pro was being discontinued in Europe in March due to EU regulation changes. In February - seemingly in response to that news - Apple reassured a French reseller that a new model was coming in Spring. By April there we still only had baseless rumours it was it was coming out that month (it didn't).

Then the new Mac Pro - proudly manufactured in the US - was unveiled at WWDC in June, and we knew nothing about it at all other than what Apple themselves had released (with their name on it) beforehand.

So, we know they must be working on a redesign, almost certainly to bring it in line with the new design language of the 12" Macbook.

We know suitable processors are finally available from Intel after a very long delay.

We know if they were going to announce at WWDC, there would have been something - anything - leaked from the normal supply chain because production would be underway already. We've been seeing iPhone 7 rumours already, and its release is months away.

We know they have a very nice factory in Austin producing Mac Pros, and we know manufacturing in the US would be a GREAT point of difference to put Apple ahead of competitors. We also know that it's much less likely to see leaks from that factory.

We know rumours are saying the iPhone 7 will be very similar in style to the 6/6s, so if there is no MBP update this year, they'll essentially go through all of 2016 having released nothing with a proper new design (iPad Pro is just smaller, iPhone 7 is much the same, iMac spec bump, 12" Macbook spec bump, no Mac mini or MBA update, and just a MBP spec bump). That seems unwise and unlikely and would play right into the "Apple are out of ideas" narrative in the press.

So what if there haven't been and won't be any leaks because the US workers are much tighter-lipped, and Apple managed to unveil shiny new Macbook Pros at WWDC without any substantial rumours beforehand?

Or, you know, whatever, just a spec bump quietly announced on their website after the keynote. That seems likely too.

I will say this...I have faith in Jony Ive...yup there I said it.
Yeah he can become unhinged when it comes to thinness...but as of recent he has never disappointed with notebook design...phones are another thing.

I favoured Apple cause of Jobs...now that he's not there anymore...I'm still on the ship for Ive. I expect to see well designed MacBook pros. And good design means it follows function...not the other way around. So I hope to see that.

But if I've disappoints this this time around, then... I don't know what I'm going to do.

When in the last 10 years has Apple ever updated a computers ports without a full redesign?

I can't think of any, but there may be some

Or for that matter updated the screen of a computer without a full redesign?

There are a bunch of very nice Windows laptops that already have what Apple should (and could!) have built into the MBPs months ago (Skylake CPU, Thunderbolt 3, HiDPI 4k displays, …).

Exactly. And I do not have a problem with using windows. I use windows on my desktop already because of better gaming opportunities. I am waiting to see what Apple has to offer. I would like to use a MBP because of simplicity and combined functionality with my iPhone/iPad but I do not have to use a Mac. It is an optional preference if Apple comes up with something great.

As a 2010 macbook pro user id still wait even if doesnt come in June. September would be my absolute limit though

I can think of one time. My Early 2011 MacBook Pro was just a refresh and it kept the 2008 design, however Apple added a Thunderbolt port. Of course, the Thunderbolt interface used the Mini Display port, but I think it might count.
[doublepost=1463563593][/doublepost]You know, I think I am going to need therapy if Apple doesn't update the MBP at WWDC. I definitely might have an unhealthy emotional investment in all of this.

How about Intel and Apple improve their relationship again and Apple gets first access to Kaby Lake? That would be an important leap because Skylake requires an additional chip for TB3 and USB3.1 that Kaby Lake doesn't. One can only dream.

Looking at the benchmarks from the 6700HQ, having a new cpu architecture isn't doing anyone much good at the moment. What's the point of a new architecture if it performs just as good as the old one at the same wattage?

Oh great, you took the 1 sample Skylake benchmark against thousands of samples of Haswell like a real demostration. First, wait to have many more samples from Skylake before comparing both, we need to see the average and variance, not 1 number. Second, this new architecture also has a dGPU way greater than the Haswell's one. Add to this more battery life due better efficiency. And finally but not least, only CPU-wise talking, a 2016 CPU will be futureproof, and won't devaluate so hard compared to a 2013 one. I have only talked about CPU, which will be the "minor" change, so I could keep going on.

If you don't need another laptop you shouldn't get another laptop in june either.

And obviously NOW you should wait. it's four weeks. But six months with a borrowed laptop, an underperforming laptop or even being without a laptop? If you think that's worth it for 10% performance gain you obviously don't use your laptop for work.

So if he needs a laptop soon but he has to wait some months, he shouldn't wait to see new MBP released. But if he doesn't desperately need a new laptop he shouldn't buy, because hey his laptop still turns on. Wow, no one would ever buy a new Mac if people used that logic.
