Quick question. Plan on using the new rmbp for school. Using it for sketch up, autocad, revit, 3ds max, Photoshop, indesign, and illustrator. From my understanding I should really focus on the cpu and not the gpu. Will the iris pro suffice? Also is the cpu between the 13 and 15 in that big? If I need to focus on the cpu should I just get the 15in? I do prefer the smaller form factor.
I also want to have an external monitor. Probably something 4k, hopefully an apple Thunderbolt Display if it's updated. Do I need a gpu for external monitors? Don't really play any games.

Also do you guys recommend apple care? Didn't get it for my base air from 2012 but the rmbp will probably cost atleast 2x

On getting AppleCare...I think it depends on the machine you are buying. If it's a 15" with a dGPU, definitely get the AppleCare as Apple's track record with dGPU's in MacBook's is poor and a logic board replacement will cost a lot of $$$ out of pocket. With other machines, it might be a different story. I'd still recommend it though, particularly is you plan on keeping the machine three years as you just never know.

I got it with my early 2011 15" and I'm glad I did because my MBP suffered from Radeongate and I needed to use it to get a new logic board.

Thanks!

I never get apple care, but thats just me
I haven't bought a macbook or macbook pro since 2010. I always buy applecare and have gotten 2 different replacements because of faulty hardware in the past. Now my 2013 rMBP 13" trackpad has been fixed 3 times and now it is bad again. Apple will be replacing my whole 2013 rMBP 13" for sure next time (Lord Willing). Because last year they also replaced my SSD and this year battery, and keyboard two or three times.

Thanks!

Were you the victim of a horrible voodoo curse or something? I can't understand how all of those things keep failing repeatedly for you! What was the reason that they had to replace the trackpad and keyboard three times each? You would think that they would be the more reliable parts.

Thanks!

I bought it for my 2009 13" MBP and used it once to replace the hard drive. Now I'm looking at a 15" and AppleCare I'm Canada is $379!! That's a big decision I'll have to make.

For the trackpad they replace it then it goes bad, I don't know why. They tried to explain to me that for my exact model that the battery when it goes hot it causes the trackpad to raise a little bit and therefore it messes up. But in my case it happens even when the battery is cool. Also the first one in 2010 I had the hard drive and motherboard were really bad even after replacing them both few times. Then my 2011 I can't remember exactly. But now the 2013 is really bad with the trackpad and I am waiting for the 2016 rMBP to come out so I can have it replaced through applecare. I won't take no for an answer.

I'm sure someone could argue that the Macbook Pro isn't a "pro" device either. In either case, it's a pointless argument.

There's nothing unprofessional about having a non-silver laptop, so I don't see why the Macbook Pro can't have color options.

It's just that multiple colour options have always conotated with iDevices - which are far from the "Pro" levels that OS X devices operate at.

So on that sense, I feel it doesn't feel right nor possible. But I guess we'll find out in 13 days.

Serban, for those of us who still (want to) believe -- can you please explain your allusions to Apple update times now that it appears the leak you were referencing was not a genuine Apple release?

Like i told others privately, yes another sleek mac exist but i dont and never ever had an document or whatever thats says black on white that apple will release that particular x project on the market on xx date. Again, that guy post a picture of what I believe was an apple silent update for that mac, and since is not a very new product with some magical feature, i thought apple could release it silently today or Thursday, since Apple usually make silent updates Tuesday and Thursday if my memory dont play games on me.
[doublepost=1464677106][/doublepost]I hope ill be back with more on 3 june since apple probably is set on what will present on 13 june event

@Serban I'm on the line to get rMBP and I'm pretty confused whether wait or not becasue there are many contradictions about upcoming MBP. Could you be kind enough and via pm share some light on the specs and porbablility of the WWDC release? at least based on your insight. discretion advised :)

I think we will see a new Macbook Pro released on Tuesday or Thursday before 2017. The keynote is on a Monday though, so no Macbook Pro at WWDC. Sorry guys :(
Cook be like " We will start shipping the new macbook pros tommorow", which is Tuesday

Also the first one in 2010 I had the hard drive and motherboard were really bad even after replacing them both few times.
i try to give an explanation here, but is pure conjecture:
when you get the motherboard replaced at an apple store, they normally only swap the bare board with soldered cpu and keep everything else that's still working. now if the technician -though trained- is doing a sloppy job with applying thermal paste to the cpu.. there goes your second motherboard (it's an added risk, i'm not saying that it will happen, if you run heavy tasks on your mbp you know how hot they get, even under proper setup)
if the problem is recurring after repairs from the same store, i might begin to believe the fault lies somewhere within the store.

i fried from overheating a 15" 2010 mbp and replaced the motherboard at an apple store, so i know these things can happen, sadly. now call me paranoid, but i use smcfancontrol to keep my laptop cooler than the factory standard.

yea but first will start with core M, 15W some desktop cpu and so on..
[doublepost=1464684165][/doublepost]report says that the notebook will get delayed and will not be launched until October. Instead, Apple will unveil a new 13-inch Retina MacBook at the WWDC..

maybe this could be good news or bad...but i think this could be good news..maybe my 3 June appoinment will have at main thing another units with Intel kaby lake ? maybe Intel and apple are at something like they were years ago ?! i dont know but i am very exiting to found out more
[doublepost=1464684411][/doublepost]but again its just a report..
