So 13" rMB tomorrow. Or this week.

In the 4 existing colors plus black?

Then also 12" rMB in black?

Then wwdc announce Mbps in the same 5 colors to be shipping around July - August?

I fear your situation will eventually become mine - I've been saving for the 2016 MacBook Pro for so long, and while I've always intended to buy it in July 2016, it seems like that won't happen, so I'll just collect more money and get more and more frustrated...

Did your 2009 MBP survive into 2016?

Yes, barely. Been holding on for dear life til new MBPs are released. It's retained it's usefulness way better than my previous windows machines. I've had to deal with some bumps along the way though:
  • 2009: Replaced Hard Drive (first one was defective in 1st month)
  • 2010: Logic board replaced (spilled a teeny bit of water in wrong spot. Less than a shot-worth of water, but directly into the air-flow vent, which is like a super-highway for the water directly into my CPU/logic board. Apple charged me almost the cost of a new laptop to fix)
  • 2014: replaced hard drive with SSD, got rid of long-broken superdrive dvd. Doubled RAM to 8GB. These two changes made a huge difference, really night and day difference from before. Made it possible for me to finish my thesis work on the ol' laptop. Would highly recommend to anyone still running computers with the old spinning drives.
  • 2015: replaced DC-in board which went bad (prevented charging). Replaced battery.
Now it is barely hanging on. Current battery (only 1year old from ifixit :() lasts under 2min. Screen frequently flickers off for no apparent reason. Trackpad goes haywire at times. When replacing my DC-in board, I accidentally tore off the header for the subwoofer when removing it, so the speakers sound super weird (treble but no bass). But the ol' girl still runs most of what I need (excel, simple matlab stuff), if not what I'd want (hard-core matlab, video editing, gaming). Any given day could be it's last day. I know that many here are disappointed with the current 6770HQ performance, but it will feel like a revelation to me (Going from geekbench multicore score 2534 to 14000)!

Ahh man. It's been so long since a significant refresh. Can't believe this thread started back in 2013.

Still using my 13" MBP that I got back in 2011. Really can't wait to see the refresh this year and finally replace my aging Macbook—battery has finally started to degrade significantly and things are getting so slow!

Erm...I don't think we're going to see rMBPs in 4 or 5 different colours ever!

I just can't see Apple parading their Pro lineup like that. If a 14" rMB exists...then I highly doubt we'll see the Pro in 4 colours. It just doesn't seem Pro.

Wait, did Serban just really try to hype up TB's twitter posts and say that Apple is going to release the 13" rMB tomorrow, even though it turned out to be ColorWare?

I honestly believed Serban when he first came here with at least some "credible" (And I use this word very loosely) information amongst the typical posts... But come on, man.

@Serban, if you honestly do have access to the 3 prototypes of each of the retina MacBook Pro's, you have to get verified by a mod by sending them information that validates you as a source. Otherwise, you're just wasting everyone's time and I can see the mods just removing you from this thread for trolling.

I actually agree with you. For some reason I see the new MBP coming in it's traditional Silver color, along with Space Grey perhaps. I'm not so sure we are going to see a Gold MBP, and I'd be even more surprised to see a Rose Gold MBP. Or perhaps we will see all of those color options for the 13" and not the 15"? To elaborate, I can't imagine that the 15" MBP is a huge seller by Apple standards, even when compared to the other Macs. Whenever I see MacBooks, I mostly see only the cheaper models with the smaller screen sizes. So, it might not be worth it to produce all of these color options for the 15" and deal with all of the increased supply chain complexities. I'll probably be wrong though, and am just speculating.

Well one can argue that the iPad Pro isnt really Pro?
I should have specified a Pro laptop and not an iDevice.
I'm sure someone could argue that the Macbook Pro isn't a "pro" device either. In either case, it's a pointless argument.

There's nothing unprofessional about having a non-silver laptop, so I don't see why the Macbook Pro can't have color options.

Quick question. Plan on using the new rmbp for school. Using it for sketch up, autocad, revit, 3ds max, Photoshop, indesign, and illustrator. From my understanding I should really focus on the cpu and not the gpu. Will the iris pro suffice? Also is the cpu between the 13 and 15 in that big? If I need to focus on the cpu should I just get the 15in? I do prefer the smaller form factor.
I also want to have an external monitor. Probably something 4k, hopefully an apple Thunderbolt Display if it's updated. Do I need a gpu for external monitors? Don't really play any games.

Also do you guys recommend apple care? Didn't get it for my base air from 2012 but the rmbp will probably cost atleast 2x

Here's a comparison between the top CPUs in the current 13 & 15 models: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i7-5557U-vs-Intel-Core-i7-4980HQ

But for all those programs, 3D work and an external monitor, you would want a dGPU.
